xxvii . prom

Prom. The one night Tiana had always looked forward to, but she now dreaded. Luke, Belle, Daniel and Tiana were going as a friend group, since none of them had (or wanted) dates. Well, Belle and Daniel didn't want dates, And Luke and Tiana wanted to be each other's dates, so it worked itself out in a way.

Tiana's dress was dark red, which her shoes and makeup matched. Her and Amy had done last minute prom shopping, where they'd finally caught up with each other after what felt like forever. As she was getting ready to leave the house, she heard beeps outside. It was Phil.

"Phil, what are you doing here?" She asked, getting into the car.

"You think I'd let you walk all the way to prom in those beautiful, very expensive looking shoes? No way! Luke and Manny are waiting back at Jay and Gloria's we're gonna take some pictures, and- Hey, you're dress is, like, the same colour as Luke's tie. Funny how things work themselves out, huh?"

Of course Luke and Tiana didn't know this, but Amy and Haley were pretty good friends. Amy had told Haley what colour dress Tiana was wearing, so Haley had encouraged Luke to get a tie that colour. Would that help their relationship progress? No, but it would look cute.

They arrived at Jay and Gloria's, and Tiana was the first to walk in. Everyone seemed floored at how nice she looked, even Haley.

"Tia, you look beautiful!" Gloria said, embracing her, "Come, stand in between Luke and Manny, and, on the future, we'll let the grandkids guess who's date you were! Wait, who's date are you?"

"No one's," Tiana said.

"Then why are yours and Luke's outfits so co-ordinated?"

"I guess that's just the way some things work themselves out."

The three got a few pictures together, with Tiana stood in the middle. "Okay, now Manny out," Gloria said.

"Why?" Tiana asked.

"Manny has his own date," Gloria said, pointing to Manny's date, "He can't be in every picture!"

That seemed strange coming from Gloria, considering how much she loved Manny, but Luke and Tiana accepted, getting a picture together before it was actually time to go.

They arrived on time to the prom, meeting Belle and Daniel at the doors. "Oh my God," Daniel said, "You look so hot!"

"You don't look too bad yourself," Tiana said.

"I can't believe it's almost time for us to go to college. Hey, Tia, considering neither of us have any hopes of getting into anywhere, your words not mine, maybe we can go to community college together!"

"Maybe," Tiana said, feeling her stomach churn.

"You okay?"

"Yeah, I'm great."

After a few dances, a slow song finally came on, causing Tiana to grown. Daniel and Belle were up within seconds. "Come on, guys," Daniel gestures to Luke and Tiana.

The pair shrugged at each other, then got up to dance. Luke had his arms wrapped around Tiana's waist, and hers were around his neck, slowly swaying back and forth together. This would be one of the memories she'd cherish when she left him.

All of the moments would be moments she cherished, from that day he zipped up her backpack in the hallway the first day of freshman year, to now, almost four years later, dancing together at their prom. Tiana was undeniably in love, but she'd realised it too late.

"I'm gonna miss you," Tiana said.

"What?" Luke asked.

"When we go off to college. I mean, we won't see each other as much."

"If we go off to college. Let's be real, Tia, we're not to brightest of the bunch. But, if we don't get in, we'll figure out what we're gonna do together, right?"

Tiana stayed quiet for a minute, and Luke began to worry that he'd offended her. "Yeah, right."

"Tia," Luke said, stopping his swaying but keep his hands on her waist, "Are you okay?"

"Luke," Tiana felt a pit growing in her stomach as her head began to spin, "I love you."

"I love you, too. Are you sure you're-"

"No, Luke. I love you."

Luke completely let go of Tiana now. "Wait, really? Tia, you have no idea how much I've wanted you to say that, I-"

"But I'm moving to New York. In a week."

"What? Why would you spring soemthing like that on me? Isn't there something we can work out? You can stay at my place, you practically live there anyway."

"I'm sorry."

Tiana ran out of the school, leaving Luke stood alone and dumbfounded. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around to see Cam. He broke down in his arms, not caring how many people were watching him hugging his uncle.

"I love her," he said, "I could have told her so long ago, but I was too scared and now I've lost her."

"I know, I know," Cam said, "Let it out."

And that's what he did. Cam soon took Luke home, and h went straight to his room, not coming out for anyone.
