vii . date gone wrong

Since the breakdown of Lexi and Tiana's friendship, it was getting more and more awkward to sit next to each other in English class, so Lexi swapped seats with Alan Brown. Finally, she was good for something.

When Alan first sat down next to Tiana, she tried her best to act as cool as possible, which completely humbled her as she ended up dropping most of her stationary on the floor. Embarrassing.

She heard Luke laugh from in front of her, and scowled at him, before turning back to Alan. "Hey," she said.

"Hey," Alan replied, "Tiana, right?"

Tiana rolled her eyes. "I know you know my name, Alan, you got me thrown in jail at the school fair."

"Right, sorry, I'm trying too hard, aren't I?"

"Just a little. It's fine, at least I know you're interested."

"Are you doing anything tomorrow?"

Tiana felt her face heat up and her eyes widen. "No, why?"

Alan gave her a piece of paper with his number on it. "Text me your address, I'll pick you up at four."

The bell rang, and just as Alan was about to leave, Tiana stopped him. "Wait, wouldn't it be better to just meet somewhere? It saves you a lot of walking."

"Yeah, you're right. Then text me where you wanna go."

"Will do. See you tomorrow."

Bullet dodged. Obviously, Tiana couldn't have Alan coming to her house. Her parents never let her answer the door, so they'd instantly know she was going on a date. Unless they were unconscious, or out of the house. Still, she couldn't risk it.

Luke walked over to her desk and began helping her pack away her stuff. "Thanks," she said.

"So," Luke said, "Alan Brown? Really?"

"What's up with him?"

"I just think you could do better."

"Are you serious? Alan's popular, super cute and, as far as I can tell, super sweet. Sorry that you're jealous you can't pull anyone."

"Actually, I also have a date tomorrow."

"With who?"

"One of the new twins. Zoe or Piper."

"At least I know who I'm going on a date with."

"Whatever, Tia. Let's go."

"Okay, okay."

When Tiana's date with Alan came, she tried her hardest to look good. She'd convinced herself that she really liked Alan. She'd convinced herself.

When she got there, she was right on time, four o'clock. Alan wasn't there yet. She figured he was just running late. Maybe getting there dead on time was a mistake.

She took a seat and got a drink, resisting the urge to text or call him. She didn't wanna seem needy, Finally, half an hour late, Alan showed up.

"I'm so sorry I'm late," he said, "I had to... go to this thing."

"What kind of thing?" Tiana asked.

"Nothing special, just a thing."

"You know you can be honest, right? It's fine if you're late."

"I'm sorry. I didn't have a thing, I was actually trying to figure out what to wear. I didn't want it to look like I was trying to hard, but I also didn't wanna look like I didn't try at all, then my parents went out, so I had to walk all the way here."

"Well, it's sweet that you wanted to look nice, but you didn't have to go so out of your way. I'm just glad you actually showed up, you had me a little worried."

"I'd never stand you up."

The date was going well, until Tiana decided she needed to go the the bathroom. As she was heading back to her table, she was stopped by Luke.

"Oh, hey, Luke," she said, "I didn't know your date was here, too."

"Tia, you cannot date this guy," Luke said.

"Oh my god! Why are you so against him? Can't you just let me-"

"Look at this photo."

Luke pulled out his phone and showed Tiana a picture of Alan and Lexi. Lexi had sat down at their table when Tiana had went to the bathroom. Had she been there the whole time?

"What does that have to do with anything? Just because I'm not friends with Lexi anymore doesn't mean he can't be." Luke scrolled on his phone to reveal another picture. Lexi and Alan kissing. "So she kissed him. He pushed her away, right? Right?"

"Sorry, Tia."

Tiana looked over at her table. Lexi was still there.

"It's fine, whatever. I'm going home."

Tiana stormed off, and Like followed close behind her. She grabbed the stuff from the back of the chair, ignoring anything Alan and Lexi were saying.

She stopped to look at Lexi for a second. Maybe she'd see some sort of guilt in her eyes, but she didn't, just slyness.

"You know what," Tiana said, walking back over to the table, "You are such a little snake! You know we're on a date, and you still come over and kiss him?"

"Oh, please. Me and him were bound to get together, we may as well do it before you guys become anything serious. Saves you the heartbreak," Lexi says.

Luke could see Tiana getting angrier and angrier, so grabbed her by the wrist and pulled her away. "It's not worth it," he said. She didn't fight it, until Lexi spoke again.

"Yeah, you just go home with the loser, and I'll-"

Tiana slipped out of Luke's grasp and landed a punch right in the middle of Lexi's face. "Don't call him a loser, loser."

"Thanks," Luke whispered, as they began to walk away again. Manny got up from the table him and Luke had been sitting at, leaving the twins behind. He didn't walked right next to the pair. He had his reasons as to why.

"What about your date?" Tiana asked.

Luke looked back at the two girls and shrugged. "You're more important."
