Chapter 30: Apologies and Thanks

Midoriya POV:

As Ochako and I sat there in my room, just relaxing with one another, we heard a knock at my door. Not even asking who it was, I went over and answered it. Opening my door I saw Iida and Todoroki standing outside.

"Oh, hey guys," I said to them. "What's up?"

"Can we come in, Midoriya?" Todoroki asked. "There's something we want to speak to you about."

"Sure, no problem," I said as I stepped aside to let them in. "Ochako's in here too, just so you know."

"That works out better for us," Iida replied as he entered. "Hey, Uraraka."

"Hey guys," she said with a small hint of worry in her voice.

She must be nervous about what they're here for. Could they be mad that I kept One for All's secret for so long?

"So, what did you want to talk about?" I asked the duo.

"We wanted to come and apologize to you and Uraraka," Todoroki started. "Over the past two months, we haven't been good friends. We kept trying to pry into your secrets and force you to tell us what was happening when we should have just supported you and waited until you were ready to talk to us."

"We only wished to help at first, but over time frustration clouded our judgment and we found ourselves to hold a bit of animosity towards you because of how you were keeping things from us," Iida continued. "As aspiring heroes, we should have realized when to back off and let things run their course, and not keep pressuring you about it."

"For that, we are both very sorry," the two now said in unison as they bowed. "We hope you can forgive us for our actions."

"Guys," I started, trying not to get emotional as I felt tears start to well up in my eyes. "It means a lot that you both came and said that. I hated not being able to tell you guys the truth, and even though I was annoyed when you kept pressuring me, I wished I could. I understand why you guys got the way you did, and I accept your apology."

"Thank you, Midoriya. It means a lot to us that you understand, and we hope things can just go back to normal," Todoroki said as he walked over and shook my hand.

"I hope so too, so let's not let there be any awkwardness, alright?" I asked them both.

"Understood. I'm just glad we can go back to the way things were," Iida commented.

"Agreed," I said back to him.

Taking a moment the two then looked at each other, and Todoroki spoke up first.

"Now that that's done, time for the next order of business." Todoroki and Iida then turned to Uraraka, who was still sitting on the bed and bowed toward her now.

"We're both sorry for the way the girls spoke to you," they both said in unison once again.

"It was our idea and plan that inevitably led them to confront you like that," Iida began.

"It's only right that we apologize to you as well for what happened," Todoroki continued. "We hope you can forgive us as well."

"I forgave Yaoyorozu and Tsuyu, so why wouldn't I forgive you guys as well?" Uraraka responded. "You guys were all stressed out and angry towards the situation, and confronting us about it was your only way of releasing all of that. Although it was hurtful, I understand how you all realized your mistakes, so I forgive you guys as well. There's no reason for us to stay mad at each other. We are friends after all."

"Thank you, Uraraka," Iida said as he went over and hugged her. "I'm glad to know that you aren't angry with the girls either."

"Thanks. I just want everyone to go back to being friends like we were." She responded.

"All of us feel the same," Todorki added. "We aren't trying to cut this short, but we do need to head downstairs. Iida and I are the ones making dinner tonight."

"Alright then, see you guys later," I told them as they walked out.

"See ya," they both said as they left.

After that conversation with those two, it made me realize something. Something that I should have done a while ago.

"Hey, I'll be right back," I said to Ochako. "After talking with those two I realized that I need to thank the person who helped me the most during this."

"I already know who it is, and good luck with that. I doubt he'd be one to accept anyone's thanks." She replied with a laugh.

"Yeah, wish me luck then." I then walked out of the room and made my way to the elevator so I could make my way to the fourth floor.

Bakugo POV:

I was doing my homework in my room while listening to some music. I had the hard rock playing loud in my room, but I was still able to hear the faint sound of a knock at my door through it all. I paused the music and stood up to answer it, only to see Deku standing out there.

"What do you need, Deku?" I asked, annoyed that he was interrupting me.

"Can I come in? There's something I should have told you a long time ago." He asked me. Reluctantly, I stepped aside so he could come in. He did so and closed the door behind him.

"Alright, what's so important that you had to come up here and not send a text?" I asked him as I crossed my arms.

"I just wanted to say thank you for helping me out over these last two months," he said. "If it wasn't for you, I don't think I would have ever improved as much as I have if it wasn't for your help."

Not like I ever needed a thank you, but I guess this isn't the time for wisecracks.

"Don't worry about it. I was able to improve as well," I replied, trying not to make it as I went out of my way to do so.

"Can I ask though," he started. "When we were in All Might's office explaining everything to Ochako, you mentioned how you did this to make up for everything you've done over the years. Was that true?"

Damnit.

"Yeah, it was," I replied as I looked down a bit. "At first, my wanting to help you stemmed from me feeling like it was my fault All Might lost his power, so I wanted to help train you to take his place. Pretty soon though I realized that it was my way of apologizing and trying to make up for all the suffering and torment I put you through during our childhoods."

I didn't expect this conversation to happen, but I guess this is as good of a time as any.

I bowed slightly to him and spoke with the most sincere voice I could put on. "I'm sorry for everything, Izuku."

As I looked up I saw how he was shocked at what I said.

I hope he isn't pissed or anything, not like he would be though. He's too nice for that.

"Thank you Kacchan," he started as I noticed his eyes get a bit teary. "I'm glad that through all of this, we were able to become good friends again."

"Yeah, me too," I said.

For the first time in years, it felt like a weight was lifted off my chest. It felt like now that I finally made amends, I could move on and continue to improve and become a better person.

As we stood there both of our phones went off. Looking down at mine I saw it was from the class group chat, and Iida was telling us dinner was ready.

"Food's ready," I started. "Let's get going De-Izuku." I made sure to catch myself before I called him Deku again.

That's going to take some getting used to.

"Kacchan, you don't need to worry about that. You can still call me Deku. It has a new meaning now, and if Ochako and I weren't dating that's what she'd still be calling me too."

"Got it. Thanks, Deku."

He walked over to me and held out his hand. Unlike when we were kids, this time I accepted it. I shook it, knowing that things would be different now for the two of us.

Things would be better.

Author's Note: There's Bakugo' happy ending. He was finally able to apologize to Deku and make amends for his past. Throughout this whole story he's grown from the hateful guy we all know to the much less hateful, kinder person who helps his friends. I hope you all like the way I had his character develop over this, and I tried my hardest not to stem away from what he's actually like in the anime. Now all that's left is the lovebirds and their stories.
