Chapter 8

Yan Da, Peng Peng and I are now back at our secret place. She dragged me here after I asked what her final wish is. The one I hadn't fulfilled yet when she won our game.

She looked at me, then at my cherry blossom trees. I just stood there waiting. It looked like she was debating with herself.

Making up her mind, she brought out a dagger. My eyebrows creased in curiosity.

She sighed, meeting my gaze. "My wish is for you to carve our names into your favorite tree." She said, eyes tearing up. "It'll be my hope that maybe someday we'll meet again."

My eyes soften, getting the dagger from her. Slowly but surely, I carved our names on both trees.

Yan Da traced them with her fingers, tears falling from her eyes. I reached out wiping them.

"It's getting late," I said, making her tears fall faster. "But before I go, may I have this dance?" I asked, offering my hand to her.

She laughed, taking my hand. We danced then under the moonlight. The song of crickets and other insects around us as our music. Our gaze met, smiling at each other albeit teary eyed.

This moment feels so surreal. It felt like I just met her and now, I have to leave her.

"Yan Da, you are my first true friend. The times we've spent together are my most treasured memories. Even if I'm gone, know that I love you very much." I said letting her go and kissing her on the forehead.

Yan Da stifled a sob. She stood there watching him walk away. She didn't say good bye neither did he. Both silently weeping and crying as the distance between them grew farther and farther apart.

"Goodbye, but now that's such a hard thing to say

Now, it's time to let go but I never thought I'd feel this way.

Promise not to be sad... but we both knew I was lying...

You're more than just my best friend. What makes me miss you most of all in

Our final curtain call, is knowing that I won't see you ... again."
