Mitchell Coby Michael Grassi

(Here we go, i think this is the longest chapter i've ever written. By the way the following "questioning" has nothing to do with how real psychologists work. I just invented most of the questions and methods so... Idk - Vicky)

"Full name please" I said even though I already knew the answer. Thing is, as a psychologist I had to go through a series of questions before starting what I actually wanted to do, but I had a feeling he was used to this so I came to the conclusion that if I wanted him to open up I'd have to approach in a different way.

"Mitchell Coby Michael Grassi" He said in a monotonous way, with a hint of arrogance. I wrote it down on the file and moved on with the questioning.

"So, you're 22 years old with a rare case of Anterograde Amnesia. Been here for two years now with no sign of recovery am i right?" I asked.

"Yes" His jaw clenched and his words came out a little bit harsh.

"Can I call you Mitch? Is shorter and easier" He nodded. "Okay, are you ready to start?" I said it in the most amiable way possible, I didn't want to get on his bad side.

"Yes"

"Fist of all, how are you?" I didn't want to jump right into the personal stuff, first I wanted to carry a casual conversation and see where it led me.

"Fine" Again with the monosyllables. I sighed in annoyance gaining a subtle grin from him. We went back an forth, me asking him questions and he just giving me one-word answers. I even told him to say at least five words but every time he stuttered on purposed or spoke words that had nothing to do and claimed he had said five words. He was very irritable.

I sighed again and leaned back on my chair. This wasn't going as planned. I held his gaze long enough until i looked away, I wanted to ask him so many things but I knew he wouldn't tell me. I've dealt with this kind of patients before, always thinking they know best and that they are too smart or that they don't need treatment. But every single one of them had something in common: Fear. Fear of not knowing wether if they would stay in the hospital forever or be out next week, fear of ending up alone in this world, even the fear of someone giving up on them. Pretty human thoughts if you ask me but eventually they would all give in, start to cooperate and finally be cured.

He was different.

Through out my first round of questions I started to pick up some pieces concerning his personality and his behaviour. He held his head up and looked at me directly in the eye, a sign of defiance. He spoke slowly and quietly but always firm, his voice never faltered. He had this aura of arrogance all around him, and a calculating look that made you think he was fifty steps ahead of you. He seemed unamused by everything, we've been "talking" for an hour now and not in one moment he seemed nervous. He almost appeared not human, somewhat robotic. I was definitely not going to let him play me and he was definitely not going to give in. Silence between us seemed endless and just when I was about to say something, he spoke.

"Let's make a deal" I raised my eyebrows and leaned forward.

"I'm listening"

"I know nothing about you and you know nothing about me. I imagine you've read my file but trust me, it shows just a hint of how i really am" He crossed his legs up in the chair to be more comfortable before speaking again. "So i propose this: I answer one of your questions if you answer one of mine"

"You promise to be completely honest with me?" I asked.

"Only if you are. You start Doc" I thought about this for a couple of seconds. I bet he will ask me pretty personal questions and I am not sure if would like to answer them. But what other choice I had? This was one hell of an opportunity.

"Okay then... Tell me about your family. What do you remember about them?" He stirred a little in his seat and I swear I saw a hint of sadness in his eyes, although seconds later his mask was on again.

"They were both business man or that's what I've been told. They worked for a company named Trophex that was pretty well known. Doctors told me they were murdered because of a misunderstanding between their company and their rival, Carmsely. They refused to give me more information about the matter"

"I'm sorry" That was horrible, having your parents murdered and then suffering with an amnesia that prevents you to remember their faces. I felt bad for him.

"What about yours? I bet it was this typical kind of a rich ass family that spoiled their children with expensive clothing and trips to the Bahamas" He rolled his eyes before finishing, he couldn't be more wrong.

"Yes, my family is rich and no, we are not perfect" I said. "They've spoiled me and taken care of me but that's it. They spent too much time travelling and they where never at home when I needed them. I think they wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible, i'm pretty sure that's why they left"

"Where are they now?" He asked, it surprised me. I've never thought of him as a caring person.

"They are in Argentina, living the good life in Buenos Aires. I remember when they left: "The more far away from you the better" So they moved literally to the end of the world" I gave him a sad smile which he never replied, he just stared at me with those brown cold eyes. "I get to ask two questions now" He narrowed his eyes for a second but then smiled.

"I thought you wouldn't notice. Points for being attentive" He uncrossed his legs and put them down. With the tip of his foot he kicked his bag which he had resting in front of the chair. I remember one of the members of staff putting it there. The bag was opened which cause some papers to fall off, including a book. He stared at it with wide eyes and quickly put everything place.

"What is that book?" I asked.

Looking at it now, I think it would've been better for me to shut my mouth.

"Nothing" He shot me a warning look, as in to drop the matter, but as far as I recalled we had agreed to be honest with each other.

"It's your time to answer, remember our deal?"

"Shut the fuck up, it's none of your business"

"Is that your diary? I mean where you write the things that happened through out the day?" He looked extremely pissed off, his nose was flaring.

"Who told you about my book?"

"A friend, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. Why does it matter so much to you if I know you carry it around?"

Bad move Hoying.

"WHAT DOES IT MATTER?!?!" He was up in his feet and in front of me in the blink if an eye. "Do you have any idea of how many times a psychologist or nurse tried to steal my book? How many times I was asked to let them read it? This thing is personal, and no one, I repeat no one will ever read it with out my permission" I tried to stay calm during his whole outbreak, I was taught that if a patient once turned aggressive the best thing you could do is stay serene and let them let it all out. The problem is: I was already angry with his attitude.

"I think you are over reacting a little bit" He closed his hands in a fist. Maybe it was time for me to shut up.

"Listen to me here, do you want to know what I do in my free time? I analyse people, watch their reactions and behaviours. Believe me when I tell you that poeple get angry when someone does something they don't like. This is a habit I got thanks to you, psychologists. And just to let you know, I've got you all figured out"

"Oh yeah?! Enlighten me!" He was starting to get on my nerves and I was beginning to loose my temper. To my surprised he looked to my right and then relaxed, suddenly all his hatred seemed to vanish in the air. He sighed and sat on his chair again, leaving me as the only one standing. He noticed how worked up he'd gotten me and as to mock me he only stared at me and smiled.

"I believe our time is over Doc. I would love to stay but i've got things to do and you've got some family issues to take care of"
