Downfall

Trigger Warning: moderate violence (which includes guns and threats), manipulation and despair.

They blindfolded us before leaving the house, I didn't see the point in it because I knew exactly the way to the Hospital. This led me to believe that we were being taken elsewhere, which scared me. We were put inside a van, I guess, and each of us took a seat. I felt someone gripping the side of my shirt when we started moving but I couldn't figure our who it was, my best guess was Alex.

It was a bumpy ride, every once in a while I'd hit my head against the sides. Nobody spoke, mainly because we were ordered not to but after a while Kirstie couldn't resist it anymore. "We're going to die aren't we?" She asked. At the same time I heard someone sniffing, yet again, I had no clue who it was.

"We don't know that yet" I tried to sound as calm as possible. Everyone was starting to loose their minds, they needed someone to stay sane for them.

"Come on. It's obvious" Mitch. "They're going to take what they need, and then leave you all to die"

"What about you?" I asked. I desperately wanted to know where the hell he was sitting. His voice came from my right but you couldn't know with all the noise coming from outside.

"He'll keep me the longest, until he figures out the root to my intelligence and then he'll try to copy it and apply it to himself. That was his goal all along and I found out before he could do anything and look where it got me" He sighed. I wanted to hold his hand and take away his pain. I've always known that he was special, unique and meant to be protected. Since day one I've felt this need to unwrap all his secrets and help him out, but I've never meant to make his suffering my own and fall in so deep.

Suddenly the van stopped. Even though I was blindfolded, I could see light coming from outside. When they opened the door I was blinded even more. They got us to walk outside and led us inside a building or house or apartment, I didn't know really.

Once we were all inside they sat us on a couch and took off our blindfolds. Everyone except for Mitch looked around frantically to at least have the slightest idea of where we were. "Unoriginal and predictable" Mitch said. "Honestly, I knew it all along" He spoke to us then. "We're in m-his house"

"Take them all to separate rooms, I want to speak alone with him" He pointed at me. Kirstie, Alex and Mitch were pushed and practically dragged out of the room.

"Don't hurt them" I pleaded.

"Oh don't worry, I won't. But only if you cooperate" I sat up straight.

"What do you want?"

"The three of you out of here"

"What?" Ryan rolled his eyes in annoyance.

"I'll go straight to the point. You and the other two must leave this house by tomorrow morning and leave the city. We'll pay each one of you for your work and I'll write great recommendation letters so you won't have trouble finding new jobs. Mitch will stay with me and I'll continue my research. You will have to swear that you won't be looking for him ever again and I'll guarantee you that in five months you'll have him alive in your doorstep but only if you do as I say" I was taken aback by him. Did he really believe that I would abandon Mitch just like that?

"No way" I said stubbornly.

"Then you leave me no choice than to kill you all" I gulped. "Unless of course, you propose something sweeter. I could use your knowledge to help me out in my research"

"I won't help you. I won't be part of any of this, and you won't succeed either"

"You sure? Okay" He stood up and called for Alex. "If you don't agree to any of my terms he'll be the first one to leave this world" The guards brought Alex to the ground and Ryan pointed a gun at him. "You decide Scott, but are you ready to face the consequences? Ten seconds"

One, Two, Three.

"I-I-I" I stuttered.

Four, Five, Six.

"Four seconds left" He unlocked the gun, making a click sound.

Seven, Eight, Nine.

"Ten" Ryan went to pull the trigger.

"WAIT, FINE I'LL DO IT! I'll help you but you HAVE to leave Kirstie and Alex put of this" I glanced at Alex who was shaking his head, his eyes were all watery. "Don't" He managed to say.

"I'm sorry" I mouthed. I was crying now.

"Good choice" Ryan smiled and in that moment I wanted to punch him square in the face. Minutes later Kirstie was brought to the room and she looked between us all. Me in the couch crying, Alex still pinned to the ground by the guard and Ryan nodding approvingly.

"Take them out of here" Kirstie looked at me and then at Alex.

"What? why?" She asked. Alex stood up cautiously and whispered something in her ear which caused her to break down crying, but I knew she was faking it. In no time they were led outside and hopefully far away from here, and far away from him.

I leaned back in the couch running through all the possibilities. "Lead Scott upstairs to his room, I need him wide awake for tomorrow. I can't wait to start working with him"

And I can't wait to to separate your damned soul from your body. When the guards closed the door behind me I couldn't help but smile to myself.

Ryan had no idea what he had gotten into. You know, you have to be extremely stupid to mess with a Psychologist who can analyse you from head to toe and figure out your weaknesses; with a Surgeon who knows every part of your body as the palm of their hand and with a Pharmacologist who knows every chemical reaction and formula and can create any sleeping drug when needed out of ordinary liquids.

Mitch, of course, didn't have a clue. I felt like we were manipulating him, but him knowing would risk everything.
