Best Friends....

That's what we'd been. Whenever we were together, we were both smiling. We were incredibly close. So close that if we'd been like 16, people would have started mistaking us for a couple. However, this closeness, soon led to a promise that we made when we were both 9. We were sitting eating our lunch with Phoenix and Larry when Miles had spoken up, "You know, (Y/n). When we're grown up, I'm going to make it one of my goals to marry you." I smiled and hugged him, "I'd love that! Promise?"

"I promise," he replied. I smiled and hugged him tighter.

However, that promise was soon forgotten.... A certain 'incident' happened and it tore away my best friend from me: DL-6. Miles' father was murdered one day during the Christmas holidays and as he had no other relatives, Miles went to live with von Karma, meaning he had to move school. I was broken when Phoenix had told me what had happened and that he didn't even say goodbye to any of us. Even though I hadn't been directly involved in the incident, it had an effect on me, whether it was a good or bad one, well, you'll just have to wait and see. I started to dig myself into my studies, only leaving my room for food or going to the bathroom.

Then, when I was 20, a specific news article caught my attention and I decided what I wanted to do as a career: "New Prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth Wins First Case!" That was when I decided I wanted to become a defence attorney, in the hopes that I'd meet him in court sometime and then I could talk to him afterwards. This happened, I got my attorney's badge at the age of 22 and Mia immediately took me under her wing once Phoenix had told her I had been looking for a place to work after he'd been freed after being accused of Doug's murder. Unfortunately, I realised once I had had my first case against Miles, that he'd changed a lot. It also broke my heart when I realised that he'd probably forgotten about the promise we'd made as kids.

-------------------PHOENIX'S POV (TS to after Turnabout Samurai)

"Edgeworth, wait!"

He turned around, "What is it, Wright?"

"I have two things actually. 1. Thanks in there, Vasquez would have gone free if you hadn't stepped in. and 2. Do you remember that promise you and (Y/n) made with each other when we were kids?"

"I have no idea what you're talking about Wright, what promise?"

"The one about you saying you were going to marry her. Do you remember that?"

He rolled his eyes, "Yes, I remember now..."

"And do you intend to keep that promise?"

"Why are you asking this, Wright? I just said that together to shut up. It was just a silly little thing and I hadn't intended to keep it from the start."

There was then the sound of papers falling to the ground and crying. I turned around to see (Y/N) crouching picking up some papers before she stood up and dashed out the courthouse, snivelling to herself as if trying not to cry. Maya turned to Edgeworth after watching the same scene as me, "Edgeworth, come here for one second." he raised an eyebrow before turning to Maya, "Yes? What is it, Miss Fey?"

Maya didn't say anything but slapped him in the face before turning around and running off after (Y/n), "(Y/n)! Wait please! Come back!"

MAYA'S POV

Unfortunately, I lost her. I'd managed to follow her up until the airport, Wait why are you going here? I didn't' get an answer as, as I had realised before, I'd lost her. I sighed before turning around and walking back to the Office, to see Nick waiting for me.

"So you're finally back."

"I tried to track her but I lost her the minute she got to the airport."

"Why would she be at the airport though?"

"Case reasons? I dunno, Nick!"

-----------------YOUR POV (TS to Turnabout for Tomorrow)

I took a deep breath as I knocked on the door to the newly named 'Wright Anything Agency'. The door was soon opened by the spiky-haired attorney I'd known since childhood, "(Y/n)?!"

"Hey, Phoenix," I replied smiling at him, "I'm back."

"I-I can tell. I missed you!" he brought me into a hug, "You want to help me investi-"

"Mr Nick, who's this?" I hadn't noticed until then that a young girl was in the Agency with him.

"Oh, Pearls, this is (Y/n), she's one of my childhood friends. (Y/n), this is Pearls, Maya's younger cousin."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss (Y/n)," Pearls spoke, bowing slightly, her hands clasped by her chest (Like her sprite, idk how to describe it)

"It's great to meet you, too Pearls. You can drop the 'Miss' though, (Y/n) is fine."

"Oh!" she squeaked out, shocked.

"But you can call me 'Miss' if you want. It's up to you."

"As I was saying, (Y/n). Would you like to come and help us investigate?" I smiled, "I'd love to, Phoenix."

"I trust you've been well, Wright?"

That voice.... I turned around to be met with the one person I did not want to see... Miles Edgeworth himself... I growled under my breath, not wanting to be here anymore. I refused to say or do anything else that concerned him except one thing, "You know, Edgeworth, what I overheard those years ago, really hurt me." before walking off to investigate more, after Phoenix had told me what the case was about.

After the case was sorted out, I decided to take a break and walked down to the Space Centre, well rather the hill that was near the Space Centre. I sat down on the grass and smiled to myself, happy to finally be back in LA and having a break after the numerous cases I'd had in Europe before coming back. I'd been sitting there for a few minutes (Although, in actual fact, it was like half an hour) when I heard footsteps behind me and a voice, "How did I know you'd be here?"

I refused to look at him, "What are you doing here, Edgeworth? Come to ruin more of my childhood dreams like you did the last time we crossed paths?!"

"N-No, that was never my intention, (Y/n)," he responded, sitting down next to me, "In fact, I came to apologise. I'm sorry about what you heard after the samurai case, but I only said that to get Wright off of my back. When we were kids, when you weren't in school, he and Larry were always teasing me about it saying I had a crush on you and things like that. I-I tried to deny it at first, but after that incident and when I moved away, I realised I missed you more than both of them. I love you, (Y/n)."

I was sceptical to believe him, yes I hadn't seen him in 11 years and there was a chance that he'd changed, but still, "How do I know you're not just saying that to get me to forgive you? What'll happen is I'll forgive you and then you'll go and break my heart again. Yes, I know we were just kids at the time but it wasn't a 'silly thing' to me. I believed it! And that's why I became a lawyer to find you! After you left I was devasta-!" He cut me off when he took my chin in hand so I was looking him in the eyes, "(Y/n), these years that you've been out of the country for, I've been reflecting, I'm sorry I hurt you but maybe a question I have for you, might be classed as an apology? A question I should have asked you the last time we crossed paths, but, will you marry me?" As he said the last sentence, he adjusted his position so he was on one knee and pulled out a ring from his pocket. I smiled and nodded, "Yes, I'd love you marry you and for the record, I forgive you." He sat back down properly and placed the ring on my finger before kissing me. I melted into it, wrapping my arms around his neck, "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that for."

"And you don't know how long I've been meaning to ask you that question for. I bought the ring shortly after the first time we crossed paths again."
