Chapter 16

Ever since that announcement echoed throughout the whole gym, the team had even more practice and the pall of peace and friendly practice matches of volleyball was replaced by a pall of sheer determination. As the days went on, practice became more and more intense, the people in the gum became more fired and pumped up they felt as if they could lift a whole mountain. All of them talked about it non-stop, Oikawa, Kuroo, and surprisingly Suga came up with some useful strategies, Suga even showed them some hand signals he used when he played volleyball in high school.

"Suga-chan you're so clever!" Oikawa explained, "Why don't you join the club?"

Suga smiled lightly, "Thank you and I have to concentrate on my studies which is why I didn't join."

The only person who knew that was a lie was Daichi, he understood why he lied though so he kept his mouth shut. It continued like this for days, Suga always gave advice when necessary since Suga was very observant. His roommate, Moniwa, asked for advice from Suga and Oikawa since he was a setter. Of course, he recognized Daichi and Ushijima in a heartbeat. Ushijima, however, did not recall anyone named "Moniwa" but he did recalled the school he was from. After an eternity, the day of the game finally came. It was on a Saturday and it would take place at around six pm. Their classes went by quickly and before they knew it, there they were, in their locker room, getting ready for the match. Most of them were already on court, the only ones in the locker room were all of the former captains, including Moniwa. He was about to leave when they received an unexpected visitor.

"Suga?" Moniwa said, "What are you doing here? You know yo-"

Suga cut him off, "I know I'm not supposed to be here but I just came here to wish you guys good luck," he smiled one of Daichi's favorite smile again and Daichi had to look away to hide his blush.

OIkawa and Kuroo noticed Daichi doing so and smirked at each other.

"Ah thank you Suga," replied Moniwa, "I have to go practice some tosses so I have to go. See you later!"

"Okay bye," Suga waved at him as Moniwa jogged away.

Oikawa decided to take this opportunity and stood up, "Thank you very much Suga-chan, we'll try to remember those hand signals you thought us, they could come in handy. Now if you excuse us, I need to practice some tosses with Ushiwaka-chan, Boku-chan and Teru-chan here while Kuro-chan needs to practice his blocking so we'll leave you two be."

Before any of them could refuse or say something, the group quickly left the locker room, leaving Suga and Daichi alone. Suga looked at Daichi and smiled a bit, "Are you nervous?"

Daichi looked at him and nodded, "To be honest, yes yes I am."

Suga went and sat next to him, "I know you are but don't be, you're an awesome libero."

"Really? Because I still don't feel slightly used to it." Daichi admitted, rubbing his nape.

"Well so far, with my observation, there's nothing more I can offer or suggest since you're doing the job pretty well. The libero's job is too keep the ball from hitting the ground and to keep things connected and thta's what you're doing Daichi, and you're dong a pretty fantastic job too," suga replied with a light, gentle smile.

"Seriously?" Daichi asked, feeling slightly less nervous.

"Yeah so just keep calm and keep doing what you're doing," Suga looked at his watch and his eyes widened, "You have to go now," he patted Daichi's back, "Good luck!" he said as he quickly ran out of the locker room, Daichi following after a few minutes.

--------------------------------------------------------

The court was filled with seas of people when Daichi entered. When he first put on the jersey of the university, he immediately missed his old one, but maybe he might make new adventures with this one. Since Daichi wore another color, it was easy for Oikawa and the others t find him.

"Ready everyone?" Oikawa asked.

All of them nodded, "Good," Oikawa took a deep breath, "Let's do our best today."

The captain gathered them and discussed about their plan. the were separated into groups so that everyone got a chance to play since both of the universities had the same amount of people in their team. Luckily, Daichi was in the same group as the former captains excluding Moniwa. They went a sat on a bench, watching their teammates come and go out of the court, cheering for them occasionally. When put in an actual game, their team weren't bad at all.

"That guy is good at controlling his serves," Oikawa commented.

They nodded, "He's more of a server controller than a power server," Kuroo replied.

"He can easily aim for the weakest one," Daichi looked at Oikawa, "Just like when he first played our practice match remember?"

Oikawa smiled, "Of course I remembered. Ah good times indeed."

They continued to watch, occasionally going through the strategies and the hand signals. After a while, the set was over, their university won by three points, causing them to be extremely fired up. When the second set started, it was their turn. Daichi stood up with them and joined his fellow teammates. They may be opponents before but now they're a team.

"Let's go win this thing hey hey hey!" Bokuto exclaimed as he jumped and jogged to the next, Terushima and Kuroo following after. Oikawa and Ushijima shared glances befor continuing walking to the court with Daichi.

Oikawa patted him on the back, "Do your best Dai-chan."

Daichi nodded and smiled, "You too."
