Chapter Twenty Two

Kyle's POV:

Standing outside the window to Tiffany's room was all I could do, watch her lying there with wires connected to her and an IV in her arm. I felt sick to my stomach seeing her like this. Her beautiful skin now looking paler then ever. She almost looks like... I don't even want to say it, she's not dying on me.

I wish you listened to me Tiffany. You wouldn't be in here if you didn't go, we would have found another way to save your sister. But I guess I shouldn't dwell on the past.

"Uh, can I help you?" A man's voice asks from beside me.

I look at the guy with confusion and shake my head. He looked around in his late forties.

"No." I reply, looking back in the window.

"Then I'd appreciate it if you leave. This is my daughter's room, and I highly doubt you know her."

So this is Tiffany's father. "Look, I'm not causing any tr-"

"Look mommy! It's the guy that saved me!" A cheery little voice exclaims from not far down the hall. I look behind Tiffany's dad and see a little girl with her blonde locks flowing behind her as she skips over here."Heyo!" She says cheerily, giving me a toothy grin.

I give her a small smile. "Hey. I see you're better."

Soon I hear loud footsteps coming from behind them and a panicked lady come rushing down the hall.

"Uhuh. The doctor put some cute pink bandages on my cuts, but I'm all better."

"Claire, what did I say about talking to strangers?" Her dad says sternly.

"Bu-"

"Sweetie. What did I tell you about running off?" The lady says, she has blonde hair like the girl. She looked like she was in her early forties.

"Sorry mommy." She sighs with a cute little pout.

The man looks up and directly at me. "Why are you still here?"

I go to speak but Claire cuts me off. "Wait. He's the guy who saved me!" She says looking at me before hugging my leg. "He also saved Tiffy." She finishes.

"Oh! So you're the one who saved my daughters?" The lady asks me and I nod slowly, before sucking in a breath as she hugs me really tightly. The only thing I could do was pat her back awkwardly, thankfully she pulls away not long after. "Honey, it would be rude to send him away. If it wasn't for him, Claire would still be missing and Tiffany would be God knows where. Thank you soo much. What's your name?"

"Kyle. And honestly it's no biggy. I don't know what I would have done if I didn't save Tiff."

"Tiff? Did you know our daughter?" Tiffany's mom asks and I nod with a small smile.

"Yeah, she's m-"

"Oh good. So I see you have officially met Tiffany's parents." A cheery voice says from behind me, as a arm hangs across my shoulder, pulling me closer to her.

"You know him Avery? Oh that's good to know. How'd you guys meet?" Tiffany's mom asks, I then notice that Tiffany's dad had disappeared into Tiffany's room.

"At school."

"So you guys are friends?" She asks.

"Oh God! You didn't tell them you were Tiffany's boyfriend?" Avery asks me with wide eyes, but then her eyes widen at the little slip up. Mouthing a 'sorry' to me. "Or did you mean me?" She asks looking between Tiffany's mom and me.

"Boyfriend? Then what on earth are you doing out here? Go in and see her." Tiffany's mom says.

"I'm not allowed in unless I have permission from you and your husband." I tell her. "And all due respect, I don't really think your husband wants me near your daughter."

She sighs and shakes her head. "Kyle, he's just worried about her. Go in and see her. Me and my family will leave you and Avery to visit her. It's honestly lovely to meet you Kyle."

Speechless I say nothing and just nod silently.

I watch as Tiffany's mom, goes into the room and speaks to her husband before he gets up hesitantly and walks out of the small private room.

"If anything changes, please give one of us a call." She tells us before putting her arm around her husband and following Claire and her husband somewhere.

"Do you want to go in on your own?" Avery says quietly.

I nod silently, still not really wanting to say anything and walk into the room, taking the seat closest to the bed. I take her hand in mine, almost immediately feeling the coldness from her hand under my warm one. I bring her hand up to my lips and press my lips to her cold hand. I could feel the tears brimming in my eyes, blinking my eyes to rid them.

"Why? Why Tiff? We could have found another way to save her." I tell her, I could even hear how broken I sound. "I love you Tiffany, and I know you might not hear me but I had to tell you. I heard you might have amnesia when you wake up and I honestly hope to God, you don't forget me. I don't know what I'll do. But most of all I'm worried, I'm worried because you've been hurt and it's my fault. I left you there, I could have saved you but I was on the other side of the stupid damn field." I stop and shake my head, letting a tear slip past my eye. "Now I'm rambling." I say putting a stupid smile on my face knowing she'd probably be amused by my rambling. "I'm sorry Tiff, I really am sorry."

I hear voices outside the room and turn my head to the window seeing Avery and an older girl looking worried but Avery is telling her something that I can't hear, but I can see her hands gestures.

I turn back to Tiffany, putting my other hand underneath the hand I'm holding, sandwiching her hand between my hands. Watching her carefully hoping she'll wake up any moment, but she won't. I know this because she's in a induced coma and won't wake up until the doctors think it's okay to take her out of a coma.

I just hope she'll be okay.

--

It was over a week later when she finally wakes up, I didn't get to see her until after her family left the room.

Over the past week I got to know her mom and dad better. Kate and Jared.

Jared took Claire out of the room heading down the hall, I'm guessing towards the food court and that's when Kate turns her head and gestures for me to enter the room with her hand.

"Honey, someone is here to see you."

Tiffany looks over to me. She looks much better then she did a week ago, the colour on her skin is starting to come back. But she looks tired, she probably is as she just woke up from a coma.

Tiffany looks at me confused. As her mom gets up to give us some privacy Tiffany gives her mom a worried look.

"Am I suppose to know you?" She asks, looking back at me.

I feel like I just got stabbed in the heart.

It was then that Avery enters the room with a smile on her face.

"Hey bestie! Good to see you're finally up." She says with a grin.

"Hey Avs." Tiffany says before turning back to me.

"Uh, yeah. Don't worry about me." I tell Tiffany with sad smile and go to turn around.

"Kyle? Wait, where are you going?" Avery asks me and I turn to her giving her a sad smile.

"You know him Avs?" Tiffany asks her confused. Avery turns to look at Tiffany and then back to me, realisation showing through her eyes. She gives me a sad look and I shake my head.

"Yeah, I do. He's your boy-"

"I'm nobody important. I'm just going to head off." I tell them, cutting Avery off and leaving the room without waiting for a reply.

She forgot. Out of all people she could have forgotten, she forgot me.

"Kyle? Wait up!" I hear Avery call after me, I look up and realise I'm already half way down the hall. "Kyle!"

I slow down for her to catch up, although I don't really feel like talking to anyone right now.

"Give her some time. Just remember she just woke up, she might not remember right now but she will eventually. Remember this is only temporary amnesia." She explains and I nod.

"Yeah, I know. I remember you telling me that. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Right?" I tell her, before turning around and heading for the exit.

Tiffany's POV:

As I open my eyes all I see is bright lights, making me close my eyes again before reopening and adjusting to the light. I look to see I'm not in my room. I go to move my arm only it feels like I have pins and needles in my body.

I feel like I've been asleep forever only I'm still tired.

I turn to my side to see my mom sitting there now sitting there with worry.

"Tiffany?" She asks me, I nod slightly confused.

"Mom, where am I?"

My throat felt like sandpaper. Dry and scratchy.

"You're in the hospital sweetie." I raise a brow still confused. "You were stabbed and had to get an operation. The doctors had to put you in an induced coma to make sure you healed properly."

"Can you get me a wat-" I pause to cough, but end up in a coughing fit. "water?"

"Oh, of course honey." She quickly gets up to her feet and leaves the room.

Not long after though someone enters the room, wearing a white coat.

"Hi, Tiffany. My name is Doctor Keiting. I'm here to check up on a few things, if that's okay with you." I nod, "Okay, well let's start with your IV's." She comes over and checks the IV bags. "That's all good. Now I just need to check up on your wound." She tells me moving the blankets back and lifting up the blue top that I had on- the one that I know is the one anyone wears while being in hospital I'm just thankful I have pants on. I hiss as she pulls back the sticky bandage. Doctor Keiting nods, before hanging her clipboard on the end of the bed, peeling the rest of the bandage off. Putting that bandage in the bin, cleaning the wound before replacing the old bandage with a new one. "Your wound is healing perfectly, although it might leave a scar. It's not too bad though. And the last thing I need to do is just ask a few questions."

"It's fine, go ahead."

"Are you feeling any pain near your surgery wound?" I shake my head. "Are you tired?" I nod. "Do you remember what happened?"

I think about it, trying to remember what happened to me but it's not coming to me. "No. Is that something to be worried about?"

"No, it's not. You were in an induced coma, and one of the side effects is that you'll have temporary amnesia. You won't remember a lot of recent events. But just rest and don't dwell upon it, it should come back within the next few months." She explains and I nod. "That's all, get some rest okay. Your mom said she was heading to get you something to drink and eat. Also drink plenty of water, okay. I'll be back tomorrow to check up on things."

She turns around and leaves the room just as my dad and sister walk into the room.

"Tiffy!"

"Hey Claire." I say with a small tired smile, hugging her gently as she puts her arms around me in a tight hug, but not too tight.

Dad passes over a bottle of water. I smile greatly and put the open water up to my mouth, drinking a almost half the bottle before putting the lid back on the water.

"I'm so happy you're back Tiffany." He asks me. I look at him confused.

"What are you talking about?. I've been here this whole time." I look between my sister and my dad. "Wasn't I?"

He smiles sadly shaking his head. "Never mind honey. Get some rest, your mom should be back soon."

--

"I'm hungry." Claire whines with her cute little pout.

"Okay, we'll go get something to eat then." My dad tells her, before turning to me and mom. "We'll be back, do you want anything?"

"A subway sandwich." I tell him, mom nods.

"Same."

"Okay, we won't be long." My dad tells us before taking Claire by the hand and leaving the room.

I notice mom turns around and gestures for someone to come in.

"Honey, someone is here to see you." Mom tells me with a small smile.

I look at mom and then at the door seeing a cute looking guy standing there nervously. I look at him confused, trying to think if I know him but I don't. Mom gets up and I give her a look, before turning back to the guy.

"Am I suppose to know you?" I ask him.

It was then that Avery enters the room with a smile on her face.

"Hey bestie! Good to see you're finally up." She says with a grin.

"Hey Avs." I say with a small smile, before turning back to the guy.

"Uh, yeah. Don't worry about me." The guy says to me, giving me a small smile that looks sorta sad... as he goes to turn around.

"Kyle? Wait, where are you going?" Avery asks him.

Wait... wait... hold up. Avery knows this cute guy? Is it her new boyfriend, cause I swear she was dating her newest girlfriend from college.

"You know him Avs?" I ask, more confused then ever. Avery turns to look at me and then back to the guy.

"Yeah, I do. He's your boy-"

"I'm nobody important. I'm just going to head off." The guy says, cutting Avery off and leaving the room without waiting for a reply.

I look to Avery for an explanation but she shakes her head. My mom gives her a worried look before looking at me.

"Don't worry, I'll take care of it." Avery tells my mom before taking off out the door, calling for the guy. My mom watching after her.

What the hell just happened?

And what was Avery about to say before the guy cut her off.

"Mom? Who was that?" I ask her, carefully watching her movements as she takes a seat beside the bed.

She looks at me nervously before shaking her head. "I can't tell you that sweetie. If he wants to tell you who he is eventually, he will. Just know that he is someone very important to you, okay?"

I nod, but am still curious as to who the guy was. But decide to leave it and ask another question. "Mom, what happened to me? How did I get stabbed?"

Mom holds both of my hands in hers and she shakes her head. "Sweetie, that's something else I can't tell you. I wasn't there, but there is someone who was. Who managed to bring you here in time."

I want ask who, but I know she won't tell me.

"Okay. But ah- when can I go home?"

Mom, gives me a small smile. "Within the next two days. They just want to keep you so they can make sure everything is okay before you go home."

Two days being stuck here, just my luck.

--

As I walk into my room two days later there is two things that I notice are different.

One; my bed is neatly made. And two; the clothes that were on the floor are now missing.

I swear I left my room messy. I was only in here two weeks ago for goodness sake.

"Knock, knock." Avery says at the door. "You okay? You look confused."

I give her a small smile. "Yeah, it's just I swear my room was a mess last time I saw it."

For a few seconds she just stares at me before bursting into laughter. "Oh Tiffany. It's fine, your mom just cleaned up."

I could tell she was hiding something though. "Anyways, I thought I might pop in and give you your phone back."

She goes to pass me the phone only thing is, it's definitely not mine. I have never owned an iPhone, let alone the newest iPhone in my life.

"That's not my phone Avs." I tell her and she raises a brow.

"It is, I'm sure of it. There is a lot of things you can't remember Tiffany, this phone may give you some answers."

I hesitate looking at the phone and back to her before deciding to take it.

"Sit wherever you want. The chair, the bed." I tell her, she shrugs and jumps on the bed so she's laying on her stomach. "Or you can just jump on the bed." I say sarcastically, slightly laughing.

"Yeah, yeah. Now are you going to check your phone or not?" She asks me with a small smile, I roll my eyes and nod, sitting down on the floor leaning my back against the bed.

I unlock the phone with the pin I always use and click on messages seeming there was a number ten in a red circle on the app.

My eyes widen as I look at the contacts; Skylar, Callum, Tyler, Kyle. Who are these people? I click on the most recent text message sent by Kyle.

I miss you Tiff. I hope you're feeling better. I love you. xox

What the hell?

"Oh, so he finally had the guts to message you? Well that's a start." Avery says, I turn my head to look at her and she is smiling and looking over my shoulder. "Continue reading, I'm sure there's more messages."

I sigh, looking back at the phone. "Avs, who is Kyle? Mom said he was someone important. He said he's nobody and you still haven't said anything apart from that you guys are friends."

"It's not my place to say. But I'm sure you'll figure it out, he did send you that text."

I nod, and go to the next text message sent from someone named Skylar.

Hey Tee! I hope you're okay.

Moving onto Tyler and Callum are basically the same messages, hoping I'm okay and that they hope they can see me soon.

Although I have no idea who any of these people are.

"Oh, I think you should check out your photos. They might help you remember some things." Avery suggests. I do as she says even though I was going to go to that app next anyways.

I skim through the photos and land on one of a girl with blonde short hair and a guy in bed? Sleeping? I click on it and zoom in on the guys face, it was that guy Kyle and me...

Why would I be in bed with Kyle?

"That's adorable. OMG you have to send me that!" She exclaims.

My eyes are wide staring at the picture. WTF? I didn't lose my... oh gosh what if I did?

Calm down. That's probably not even you.

"No I'm not sending you the stupid picture. I don't believe this is my phone. Good joke Avs but here you go, this is definitely not mine." I shake my head.

She looks at me strangely and shakes her head. "Do you think I'm joking? I'm seriously not Tiffany. This is your phone, I swear."

By the sounds of her tone she's not lying, but I just don't believe this phone is mine.

I smile and shake my head. "I know my phone and this isn't it. Anyways, I really need to have a shower, I smell... well it does make sense I haven't had a shower in over a week." I laugh but she doesn't.

"I guess I'll see you later then gurl." She says with a half smile, but she didn't look herself.

"Avs?"

"I got some stuff to do anyways. I'm glad you're better though." She says putting on a smile that I know is fake and quickly rushes out of my room, leaving the phone behind.

Damn it. What the hell have I done?

Stupid damn amnesia, can I at least get some of my memory back?
