Chapter Fourteen

Tiffany's POV:

"Little-T. Would you like to go on a date with me?" Tyler asks me with a genuine smile.

Uhhh- I don't know what to do? Should I say yes? Or no? I do like him, but is it more than friends. I mean we just kissed- and what about the so called date he asked me to go on with Aaron?

I'm frustrated but I don't show it. I think quick and come up with an answer. I smile and nod.

"Is that a yes?" Tyler asks me with an adorable smile.

How could I ever say no to that adorable smi- wait, wait, wait. I can't be making a serious decision based on adorable features like his smile, can I? Oh but it's only a date, a date to figure out if this is the right decision for the both of us.

"Yes Tyler, I'll go on a date with you." I say, leaning forward and lightly touching his lips with mine. I pull back too soon, but I know this isn't the place to be making out.

His smile stays on his lips as he rolls off of me and lies on the floor beside me.

"Uh- what's going on in here?" Says a grumpy sounding voice. So the devil returns.

"None of your damn business." I snap. I figure that was the wrong move to make cause Kyle just glares at me.

"So you lying on the floor with a chocolate mess in the kitchen of my house, is none of my business." He says with an annoyed look. "Now I will ask you again, what's going on in here?"

"Well it's none of your damn business Kyle. Have you not forgotten who pays the bills every month? Who's the oldest of this household? And who actually cleans and cooks around here?" Tyler says with a smug look on his face. He is now sitting up and looking right at Kyle. "Me, Kyle. I pay the bills every month. I'm the oldest of this household. And I'm the one who cooks and cleans around here. So really it's my house, you're just living here for the time being until you can get your own place."

Ouch- Can someone say burn?

"Right. I still live here. So I would like to kno-"

A ringtone starts ringing throughout the house and Tyler's quick to jump to his feet and run for the phone.

"Hello?... Yes, this is he... Right now?... Okay, we'll get on it. Thank you for informing me... Okay, bye." Tyler hangs up and looks to Kyle. "We got to go, right now."

"What? What's happening?" Kyle asks now looking concerned.

"Just hurry up." Tyler snaps and quickly runs off, to the office I suppose and then Kyle soon hurries out the room.

Tyler pops in the kitchen once more, leaving a kiss on my lips and then whispers, "I'll see you later, okay?"

He puts his hand on my cheek, caressing it for a few seconds. I nod with a small smile.

"Don't leave the house, okay?" He tells me in a more concerned tone, I nod not saying anything. "Tiffany, you have to promise me."

"I promise. I won't leave the house." I tell him. Something must be wrong for him to tell me to stay in the house. "I'll see you later." I tell him, pecking his lips and pushing him back and into the hallway.

I see a flash of brown hair walk past the stairs, but I already know it's Kyle. Tyler walks to the front door, where Kyle is already. I wave to Tyler as he locks the door behind him, and I just head upstairs to my room.

Well I feel a little dazed out. From the kiss and now to the date. I guess I do admit I am excited. Tyler is an amazing guy and he has everything I want in a guy. At least this date isn't a set up.

But another part of me is telling me something different, it's telling me Tyler and me aren't meant to be. I'm ignoring it though. I'm doing what I think is right.

I should really talk to someone about thi- That's it! That's what I should do, I should video chat Avery! She can help me out with this. She gives amazing advice and I'm sure she'll be excited to hear from me.

So I quickly get the computer from downstairs and head back into my room and log into Skype, seeing that she is offline disappoints me but I see that one other person is online and I'm sure she is worried as hell right now.

I chew on my lip deciding whether or not I should call her, but it's too late- I already clicked call and she answers.

"T-Tiffany?" She gasps as soon as the camera turns on.

"Hi mom." I say quietly.

"Tiffany, why haven't you called? Or at least messaged me?" She exclaims but I can't even answer before my father comes into the picture.

"Tiffany. You better come home soon or you'll be grounded for life." He snarls.

Well if you knew the situation you wouldn't be saying that.

"Well don't expect me, cause it won't be for a while until that happens." I snap. "I'm sorry but you just have to trust me on this. I'm sure you would understand if you actually listened."

You see we barely get along. Sometimes we do, other times we don't- this case we aren't.

"No, get back home right this minute."

"Get over yourself. I can easily block your stupid account and block you from my life in a second, yet you choose to argue with me. Right, that totally makes se-"

"Stop it! Both of you just stop it!" My mother exclaims. My father looks at my mother and then storms off, muttering useless words. "Tiffany, I trust you. And if you say you'll be back, you will. I love you, I hope you know that." She says and I smile.

"I will be back, I promise. I love you too. How's Claire holding up?" I ask her and she shakes her head.

"She'll be alright. She misses you though, just like I do."

"I know, I miss youse too." I tell her, wiping my eyes with my sleeve. "It's getting late, so I'll let you go mom. I'll be in touch soon."

"Ok, love you." She says, her eyes getting glossy.

"Love you too." I smile at her and end the call, closing the screen.

I close the laptop lid and just sink into my pillows but soon I start to smell something burning. And then I remember the cake is still in the oven. Shit. I jump off the bed as fast as I could and run downstairs to the kitchen. In the kitchen there is smoke coming from the oven, I open it going into a coughing fit when a puff of smoke comes out of it. The cake is most definitely burnt and I swear I saw a flame. I grab a tea towel taking the cake out of the oven and putting it on the stove. Then I run to the windows and open them letting fresh air come into the house.

How could I forget about the cake? I was only gone, what? twenty minutes, thirty max. I turn the oven off but before I do I look at it to see that I put the oven on a high temperature . Why didn't I realise that before hand?

So really it was my fault that the cake burned.

Great, my food is burnt and Tyler's not here to make me something. But it's not like I don't know how to cook, it's just I don't feel like cooking at all.

I look at the clock above the dinning table to see that it's just past nine-thirty pm. And I'm starting to get tired. I guess I'll skip dinner tonight and just go to sleep.

Kyle's POV:

"Uh- what's going on in here?" I ask raising my brow at the situation. Tiffany lying on the floor, with Tyler beside her.

"None of your damn business." Tiffany snaps. I just glare at her.

"So you lying on the floor with a chocolate mess in the kitchen of my house, is none of my business." I say with an annoyed look. "Now I will ask you again, what's going on in here?"

"Well she's right. It is none of your business Kyle." Tyler tells me.

Tyler is taking her side over his own brother.

"Right. I still live here. So I would like to kno-"

A ringtone starts ringing throughout the house and Tyler's quick to jump to his feet and run for the phone.

"Hello?... Yes, this is he... Right now?... Okay, we'll get on it. Thank you for informing me... Okay, bye." Tyler hangs up and looks to me. "We got to go, right now."

"What? What's happening?" I ask concerned. Something must have happened.

"Just hurry up." Tyler snaps and quickly runs off.

I'm quick to grab the things I need, my black leather jacket included, I was already wearing my black jeans. I also quickly put on my black boots and just as I walk past the kitchen I see something I wish I didn't- Tyler kissing Tiffany, that's not even the worse part, she was kissing him back.

I had the chance. I could have asked her to be with me, but I didn't. I lied to her, told her she was hot but I didn't like her like that. If only I could take it back, if only I told her I liked her. But the thing is, she is only a job and can't be nothing more. I'm only here to protect her, not be with her in a relationship.

"Don't leave the house, okay?" I hear him tell her, but I don't stay to hear the rest. I grab my keys and wait by the door.

Tyler comes after a few minutes and I open the door and walk to the car. I hear the house door shut and followed footsteps. When I reach the car, it flashes as I click the button to open it and get in. Tyler gets in the driver's side and starts the ignition.

"Okay, are you going to explain?" I ask him and he looks over to me, soon indicating onto the road and drives off.

"The people who want the Elementaret have arrived." He tells me looking panicked.

"Wait. What? They're here? As in Hollowstern Creek here?" I ask. How could they possibly be here, although they were getting closer.

"They don't know she's here, but they're most definitely here. We have to meet everyone else at the base." He tells me.

The base. That's where we all meet up for meetings like this. And this is a very important meeting. In our group there's me, Tyler, Callum, Skylar and Aaron. Normally there is a few others, but they're all out on other jobs. Skylar is out of town so there's only the four of us and the additional help of our trackers.

"How close are they? This can't be happening!" I exclaim. Tyler takes a right turn and looks over to me.

"Well it is, and we just have to deal with it." Tyler parks the car and we get out.

The base is under the bridge of this town, reason why our uniform only includes the colour black. "We'll inform the others but from now on one of us has to be around Tiffany at all times."

"I'd volunteer but looks like she's yours now, right?" I ask sarcastically.

"Kyle this is not the time to be stuck up about anything. Either way, you've had your chance. I gave you all the time in the world to ask her out but you decided not to. So tough luck. Climb a bridge and get over it Kyle, cause this is reality." He snaps walking twice as fast as me.

He's right in a way, he gave me way to many chances to ask her out. I guess I just didn't realise my brother had more of a possibility than I did.

After the ten minute walk we arrive at the base. The guys already there, but also standing beside Aaron was our sister, Skylar.

We all have to talk quietly in a low whisper, just in case anyone was spying on us.

"Didn't think you were coming Sky. I thought you had that job a few hours away from here." Tyler tells her honestly and she shrugs.

"I didn't think Kyle here could have a crush either, but he does."

"You know that, how?" I carry on and she smirks, shaking her head.

"Di-"

"That's enough. We have more than enough to deal with than your constant bickering." Tyler hisses, glaring at the both of us. "Now, those guys are here, trying to find the Elementaret. The only way I can think of at the moment is to give Tiffany those pills to stop the Elementaret from showing up, only thing is, that would only be temporary, we need a solution. And we need one fast."

"She needs a body guard Ty. I know someone who'll be willing to take the job." Skylar pipes up.

"Skylar." Tyler says, shaking his head in disapproval, "This is not the time or place."

"Just saying. But seriously, she needs a body guard."

"She wouldn't want that." I say out loud. "She'll hate it."

She will most probably hate it. Wait what am I saying? She will most definitely hate it.

"We'll have to do it on rotating shifts." Tyler says, I look at him with a look of annoyance. Isn't he dating her, he should know that she'll absolutely hate this idea. "Cal, you can take the first shift. Just ask her to hang out, yeah. As for everyone else, I need you to keep watch of the town. Anything suspicious contact me immediately."

"Tyler, that even sounds ridiculous to me. You, you're suppose to be dating her. Shouldn't you take every shift of being her body guard."

"You do realise I know that. I should be but I have problems to be dealt with. This is my job. Your job is to be protecting her- Tiffany. If you can't do that I'll be more than happy to hire someone else to do that in your place." Tyler snaps.

Tyler is basically the head of The Protectors. He spends all his time trying to fill in paper work, getting us more supplies, or more updated security. As much as he wants to help us with the practical sides of thing, he has to do so much paper work it's not even funny, not only that he's the mastermind behind our plans and he also has to keep updated with our trackers. Tyler also makes sure everyone is doing their job. We're practically nothing without him.

I just wish he would understand Tiffany is more important at the moment, but there is five of us and only one of him. He can only do the paper work, that's how it's always been. There's more of us and it's understandable.

"So Cal, what do you say?" Tyler asks him. Cal nods agreeing with him. "Lucy will also be keeping watch of Tiffany as she has to work shifts at the ice cream parlour. Kyle I want you on the west side of town, Aaron I want you on the south, Sky I need you East side of town. I will keep watch of the house, on the north. We clear. Everyone needs to be prepared but don't make yourself noticed. You need to act normal, don't dress in uniform. They know who we are so keep low."
