His creature Has mates(always romantic)and Hope is his mate.

He knew hope was his mate when he first looked at her. 

But he doesn't tell her, becoming her friend first and if she gains feeling for him and they start dating he will tell her, as he doesn't want to force or manipulate her into being with him.

He becomes a brother figure to Josie and Lizzie.
