MATILDA! CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE:
WEIRD POPE

Kie and Pope came back and informed JJ and Liz, that Sarah was trapped in her room. even the windows were glued shut. Liz knew for a fact that was a psychopaths work, non other than Ward. She also noticed since Kie and Pope came back last night from seeing Sarah she could practically smell and feel the tension between them. She didn't know what happened or what one of them had said but Something did happen.

They were at the wreck, trying to stay low until they met John B later that day. Cop sirens were in the distance as they were still looking for John B

"He's pinched for sure, man."

"No. They wouldn't still be patrolling if they caught him." Liz said

"Let's hope."

"You know, we were in that car. They're!probably looking for us, too."

"Well, if we're gonna be outlaws, we might as well help John B." Pope said grabbing the keys for JJs bike

"So, find him before they do?"

"Pope?"

"I'm gonna get gas for the boat." Pope answered plainly

"Hey, you be careful. Okay?" Kie said

"Meet me at the dock at three. Don't be late." Pope said before leaving

"Okay, what is your problem?" Kie asked

"No problem, Officer. I'm just doing my job." Pope said

"Look, I'm sorry that I hurt your feelings." Pope started the engine so what Kie said wasn't Audible on purpose

"What was that?"

"Look, I didn't mean to."

"Sorry, I can't hear you. What was that?"

"Pope, I'm being serious-- I'm trying to talk to you!" Pope didn't listen to her, he just road off on the bike leaving JJ and Liz to look at Kie for answerers. Helicopters flew over them
"Who is that?"

"You sure he wasn't just being weird Pope?" JJ asked as they got food for John B and Sarah

"It wasn't really the kind of thing that needed interpretation. Is that enough food for them?"

"I mean, for a couple of weeks, and that's all they need, so..."

"Look, I think I actually hurt his feelings."

"Look, don't beat yourself up too much. He's completely changed his feels. The past 24 hours have been like Jekyll and Hyde." Liz told Kie

"I hate to admit it, but I miss the old Pope. At least I knew what to expect from him" Kie said before her Kies mom walked to them and Liz almost froze on the spot

"Where you been?" She asked

"Uh-- I'm fine. I slept here."

"Well, we were up half the night, scared to death, lookin' for you. Were you even gonna tell us?"

"Well, I'm telling you right now."

"What the hell are you three up to?" She asked

"I'm sorry, Miss Anna, we gotta go. Sorry."

"No. I'm sorry. Absolutely not. Have you heard what's going on?"

"Mom, I'll explain later." JJ pulled Liz to the other side of the car

"Have you seen the storm? This is not safe."

"I'm sorry, Mom. I have to go!" Kie yelled

"These cops are armed, Kiara. You'll get shot."

"I have to go!"

"I am not letting you do this!"

"Mom, John B needs me!"

"You need to stay here."

"I understand. I'll be careful."

"Right now, Kiara! This is not safe! Stop!"

"Sorry!"

"Kiara! Open this door!" Kies mom taped in the window rapidly as they tried to drive away

"I'm sorry."

"Stop it right now. Stop! Kiara!" Kie drove away leaving her mom there

They pulled up to JJs house and he sighed
"Home sweet home." JJ said as he took off his hat to run a hand through his hair

"Do you want me to come? Cause I'll come." Liz asked

"No. This will only take a second."

A few minutes later JJ walked out with his head down and his eyes looked a bit watery "How'd it go?" Kie asked and JJ held up the keys before they drove off.

"It'll be fine. It'll be fine with the Phantom. She'll get out quick." JJ said as they drove then Cop cars came into veiw

"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Liz and JJ ducked their heads

"They're still looking. It's a good sign."

They walked into the boat garage to see one big boat in the middle JJ was heading towards.

"There she be. Hey, girl. A 1983 Formula 402 SR1.The Phantom." JJ said

"Mm-hm."

"The first boat to make the run to Bermuda in under 16 hours, Kie. Forty years old! Forty. And still the fastest thing that Kildare's ever seen."

"It's kind of a junker."

"Really? She's right there, Kie. She can hear you. Let's just put it this way. You would not be smokin' weed right now if she never existed, okay?"

"I just hope it runs." Liz told him

"Oh, no, she'll run all right. She's faster than any cutters the boys in blue got."

Tires screeched outside and Liz sighed "Pope. Finally." She said, Going to meet him out their before  Rafe Cameron walked from behind the boat and Liz backed up immediately as they stood right in front of her.

"Hey, there. What's goin' on? JJ? Liz? How you guys doin'?" Rafe jumped on the side of the boat

"Whoo-hoo!" A voice came from the other side of them and Barry stepped out with a gun pointed at JJ "Well, well... See, don't think I forgot about me and you on the side of the road. I'm here because I want my motherfuckin' money." Barry pushed JJ down

"JJ! JJ!" Liz called as Rafe grabbed onto both girls to face him

"That's what I'm here for! It's not you we want, Kie." Rafe said and "Where's John B?" He asked Liz

"I don't know!" Liz cried and slapped Rafe and than immediately regretted it as Rafe pulled her closer to him

"I really wish you didn't do that." Rafe said

"I know what you did." Liz said as she tried to pull away out of Rafes grasp

"What? What did I do?" Rafe asked

"You murdered Peterkin." She yelled

Rafe grabbed under Lizzes neck and lifted her slightly, Kie tried to get her out but Rafe just hit her onto the ground. Liz grabbed onto Rafes wrist trying to pull his hand away from her neck.

"Don't you ever say those fucking words again!" He spat towards her. Liz slightly chocked at the grip Rafe had

"Rafe!" She cried through Rafes right grip

"Understand? Do you understand? Where's John B? Where's John B?"

"I don't know!" Liz screamed with tears in her eyes And Rafe tossed her down on the ground making her hit the side of her head. Rafe went for Kie and grabbed her similar to how he grabbed Liz.

"Where's John B? Huh?"

Liz held the side of her head as she tried to breathe again before hearing metal hit someone, and trying to regain her vision.

"Hey! Don't touch her!" Pope tried to hit Rafe again with the pole, and they started to punch each other while Kie rushed to Liz making sure she was okay. Barry tried to walk over to Rafe with the gun and JJ grabbed his leg lacking him trip and drop the gun

"Kie! Kick it!" Kie kicked the gun

"Pope. Okay, Pope. Pope! Hey, Pope! Pope, that's good! Stop!" Kie said as she helped Liz up and held her

"He's had enough, dude."

Pope didn't listen, he old continued and punched Rafe making him turn around, than he pulled a rope around his neck and a started to choke him

"He's good. Snap out of it, man."

"Snap out of it, dude! Pope!! Stop, dude!"

"Pope, that's too much!" Liz exclaimed at Pope

"Let go! Come on! Look at me!" Pope dropped it and breathed heavily as Rafe fell to the ground

"Shit. Oh, shit."

"It's okay."

"Okay, we gotta, We gotta go." JJ immediately went to Liz to make sure she was fine. His eyes went to her neck that was even more bruised. He held her close for a Moment before Kie pulled Liz around towards the car as she let out small whimpers.
