122. IS IT TOO LATE?

Darian had just concluded a meeting with the members of the Dawson family and was headed to his office when he got an unexpected call from Lena.

She was panicking on the phone as they talked, something terrible had happened to Isabella and she had been rushed to the hospital by Harrison, but Lena was so scared she had to call Darian to let him know about it.

Jay got to the hospital shortly after they got the call. He parked the car and Darian dashed out of the car, heading into the hospital. He met Lena at the entrance where she was pacing the passageway, he ran to hold her when he caught a glimpse of her.

"Hey, are you alright?" He pulled her into a bear hug, kissing the top of her head.

"Yes, Darian. But Isabella isn't fine and I am so scared." She relaxed in his hold.

"What happened?"

"We were together when she complained of a terrible migraine. I was confused and didn't know what to do. Darian, I was about to call you or the bodyguards to take us to the hospital when she suddenly collapsed and passed out. I am scared," she trembled as Darian held her tightly in his arms. "I am so scared, she wasn't breathing properly. What if something happens to her?"

"Hey," Darian tried to calm her. "Nothing will happen to her." He said with uncertainty laced in his tone. Rubbing his eyes with his fingers, he led Lena to sit down on the chair that was in the hallway. "You don't have to worry about her, okay? She will be fine. Where are the Doctors?" He asked her again.

"They've been with her since we got here, one of them came to tell me that she had stressed her brain trying to recall events from her past and that was why she got the migraine. He didn't talk about getting better, he just told me to pray for her Darian, he asked me to pray for her. And you do know what it means when Doctors say that, right?" She sniffled, her eyes filled with tears that refused to drop down.

"Lena," Darian called, unsure what to say to her. He knew Isabella would make it out alive or maybe that was what he thought because they hadn't made up with each other. She was yet to know who he was, he hadn't made peace with her. He needed her to live, for him to tell her everything he knew about her. "She will be fine, let's be hopeful. She won't die now."

"Her migraine is severe, Darian. She complains of this almost all the time and she just takes the prescribed drugs. I guess the drugs are all fake, none of them are working." Lena folded her arms around her chest and frowned.

Darian had no idea what she was talking about. It hit him at that point and he felt so irresponsible. He had harboured hatred in his mind towards Isabella for so long that it was now almost impossible to look past her flaws and see that it wasn't her fault.

He caressed his fingers against his temples and shook his head, he would never forgive himself if she died without them making up with each other. He had been so stern towards her he didn't even have an idea of the things she was going through, he had been a judgemental and insensitive bastard and he regretted it right now. So much, he wished he could turn back the hands of the clock to make things right. He had been so unfair to Isabella and she wasn't worth all the harsh treatment he showed towards her.

"For how long has she been suffering from this migraine?" He queried Lena.

"Since she came into the house. She has lots of drugs for different illnesses. Darian, she lives her life depending on these drugs to survive. She's so weak she can't do anything without the help of drugs. She suffers so much and it hurts."

Darian felt so sorry and ashamed of himself. He nodded his head and rubbed his temples. "She will be fine and everything will be fine with her." He said in a very low voice, taking Lena's hand in his.

"Her well-being is all that matters to me right now, Darian."

He nodded his head as he pulled Lena closer. She rested her head on his chest, letting out soft sobs whenever she thought of Isabella being unconscious.

"She will be fine, Lena. Stop crying please." He kissed her hair, letting her rest on his chest. Different thoughts ran through his mind as he combed Lena's hair with his fingers. And out of all the thoughts in his head, there was one that kept occurring to him as he prayed that Isabella got better, and that was making up with Isabella if she got the opportunity to live again. There was nothing else holding him back, but the demons inside of him. He had to surmount them, let go and forgive.

All Lena could see as she thought of Isabella was her smiling face and the hopeful stares she always gave her. Her heartbeats increased, she couldn't bear to lose Isabella now, she was now a family to her, someone she could easily trust and share her fears and happiness with. She shook her head, and the tears she'd been holding back fell down her cheeks. Isabella was more of her mother than she was of Darian's mother.

"I hope she will be fine, Darian. That's all I need to hear right now..." Lena was interrupted by a Doctor and a Nurse walking in on them. She lifted her head and stood to her feet. "What's her condition now?" She asked the Doctor who had a worried look on his face.

"Mrs Dawson, can I have a word with you and your husband in my office?" The Doctor asked Lena and she agreed without hesitations. "Come with me then."

Lena and Darian shared a meaningful glance as they trotted behind the Doctor leading the way into his office.
