soulmates {e} au

[au: alternative universe, where the first thing that your soulmate will say to you is carved on your wrist]

[not my idea]

~

ethan was in class, paying no particular attention to what his English teacher was saying, but he wasn't causing trouble as well. he was never one of those students that gave zero f.ucks about their education, but also had the nerve to annoy the rest of his classmates. he was always quiet.

sitting on one of the very last seats in his class, he had the opportunity to do whatever he wanted, but again, he chose to stay silent and admire the faint carved letters on the inside of his wrist that looked like an elegant tattoo in white ink. the rough patch of his fingers traced soothing patterns on his skin while rereading the words in his head.

''i'm so sorry'' the words read and according to the myth, these would be the words that his soulmate would tell him when they would first meet and when he would hear them, the light white digits would immediately turn blue, signaling that the words have been heard.

to be honest, it always felt weird to ethan, because you could never know where or when or under what circumstances you would meet your soulmate, let alone who your soulmate could be. and ethan always felt afraid that he could end up with someone that he had no feelings for.

all of those thoughts consumed his mind once again and without even noticing the bell rung and all of the students started packing their things hastily, before leaving the classroom. ethan took his time -like he always did- to neatly put all of his books in his pitch black backpack, before getting out his phone and plugging his earphones in.

he was, once again, the last one to leave the class but he didn't mind. he blasted the music in his earphones, as he didn't want to deal with all the obnoxious students that would be running and screaming at the halls as if they were in the jungle. no, he was definitely more mature than that.

he silently walked down the halls and towards the cafeteria, as he heard his stomach growling, always looking down at his phone, while his left hand was shoved in his pocket, searching for money.

it all happened so fast when, suddenly, he bumped into someone really hard, causing them to fall on the floor, while his muscular and stronger body only stumbled back a bit, feeling no pain at all. he snapped back to reality and kneeled down concerned, checking the petite girl that fell on her butt because of him for any injuries.

''i'm so sorry'' the kind girl apologized with a broad and genuine smile on her face, even though she was suffering from the extreme pain her hips were in.

''don't apologize, love, it was my fault'' ethan replied and cautiously took a hold of her arms and picked her up, making her stand on her feet again.

as she got up, the girl winced in pain, but this time she was holding her arm, making ethan wonder how badly he collided with her so she was injured in multiple parts of her body. but, shortly after, he felt a pinching sensation run in his left arm and he whined in pure agony.

he dared to look down at his wrist, only to see that finally, the letters were starting to turn a baby blue. his loving heart started beating frantically in excitement before his eyes skimmed to the stranger girl's hand, seeing that the once faded greyish digits were starting to gain the same color.

he found his soulmate.

''we are-'' the female exclaimed shocked before she was cut off by ethan.

''we are supposed to be soulmates, i know. but, let's start off with the basics. i'm ethan'' he introduced himself and tried to seem cool on the outside, but on the inside, a firework display was an understatement to describe how he felt.

''i'm (y/n)'' the girl smiled and they shook hands.
