the secret- oliver wood

Author: randomfandomimagine

I gagged on my food because of the twins’ stupid joke, and Oliver started hitting my back and trying to prevent me from choking, worried.

“I thought I was the only one who wanted to kill you sometimes, but it seems like Fred and George want to have a try” Oliver joked, but in his expression I could see he got scared for a second.

“I hate you all” I said as I recovered. We all laughed as I still coughed and cleared my throat.

“Are we going for Quidditch practice?” Fred asked us, and we all looked at Oliver.

I had never met someone who liked something so much as Oliver Wood liked Quidditch. And it was great, because I was a part of the Gryffindor team too, so I got to spend more time with the boys.

“Yeah” Oliver stood up so we followed his lead to the Quidditch field.

As we were putting on the protections we needed for the practice, I stared at Oliver. Being there always reminded me of the first time I met him.

That one day, I was watching the Quidditch match when I noticed how great the Keeper of the Gryffindor team was, so I asked Hermione who he was and she said that it was Oliver Wood. When the match ended, I went to talk to him and congratulate him on his work during the match. I remember thinking he was really cute as soon as I saw him face to face.

And here we were now, one year later, best friends forever.

“Be careful with the bludgers, loser” Oliver told me with a wide smile.

“Are you worried about me, Ollie?” For some reason, he hated when I called him Ollie, probably because of the mocking tone I used.

“No, I just think it would be a pity that they hit you in the face” He grinned as he finished adjusting his helmet. “Although that might fix it, it looks terrible now”

I punched his shoulder as hard as I could, and I smirked when he slightly winced and held it.

“I’m the prettiest girl on Hogwarts and you know it” I winked at him and grabbed my broom to prepare for the match. It would be interesting.

Just when Harry was grasping the snitch, a member from the Hufflepuff team shoved me and I found myself descending at high speed, and I couldn’t stabilize my broom to avoid landing painfully on the ground.

I crashed and rolled over for a couple of meters until I naturally stopped and sat up slowly.

A small crowd was suddenly surrounding me, but I noticed Oliver was the very first one of them to rush to my aid.

“You didn’t have to fall off the broom to catch my attention, Y/N” Oliver told me with a sly smile.

I tried to reply with a witty remark like ‘Didn’t I?’ or something, but the fall was still messing with my head.

“Shut up, Wood” I replied in a daze.

I tried to stand up, but I had to lean on him to keep my balance as my right ankle hurt really badly. I yelped in pain and involuntarily squeezed his shoulder.

“Are you alright?” He asked me when I wobbled, holding on to my waist to support me. His playful tone had dissapeared to be replaced by a concerned one.

“My ankle hurts” I simply told him, grimacing with pain. “But I guess I’m fine”

“I should take you to the infirmary just in case” Oliver let me put most of my weight over him as I leaned on his shoulder and he helped me get there.

Madame Pomfrey examined my ankle and said I had luckily only sprained it, that I would be okay.

My ankle was swollen and a bit red, and it still hurt a little, but it was nothing too great.

Oliver seemed to be truly relieved to hear it. He hadn’t moved from my side.

“Can I talk to you, Y/N?” He suddenly questioned me when the nurse left, his eyebrows knitted together.

“Sure…” I hesitated when I realized how serious he sounded.

He had been really quiet for the last few minutes while Madame Pomfrey examined and treated my leg. I guess he got really anxious when he saw I got hurt.

“Remember that thing I’m always trying to tell you?” He started, and I nodded.

For the longest time, he’d start stuttering and struggling to talk to me. One time he finally admited that he had something important to tell me that he had been trying to confess for a long time. But he would never finish saying it, he seemed too nervous to do it and he would just change the subject or leave.

I had always been wondering what that mysterious secret was, at first it even got me worried. But with time I just ended up teasing him about it, knowing it couldn’t be that serious if a while later we were mocking each other and enjoying our usual relationship.

“Are you finally going to tell me?” I asked him, smiling.

“I’ll try…” He gulped and looked up at me, solmenly locking eyes with me.

“Go ahead” I encouraged him, placing a hand on his knee. He stared at my hand and then picked it up.

“Y/N, I…” Oliver started saying, but he got stuck and started again. “You are… The thing is… I just wanted to…”

My friend sighed and bit his lower lip nervously. Every time he seemed to be having such a hard time… I felt bad for him!

I had tried guessing it, but nothing I said was ever what he wanted to say, according to him. I tried waiting patiently for him to say it, but he ended up getting sulky and leaving. All I could do was wait that this time things were different and he actually managed to spill the beans and tell me the damn secret.

After a few more tense seconds, he just shook his head and left without one more word.

I was told to stay in the Hospital Wing until the swelling passed and the pain diminished. And I got really bored during those few hours, but finally someone came to visit me. It was Oliver, along with the Weasley twins.

“Hi guys!” I greeted them with a smile, sitting up in the bed I had been lying in for the past two hours and a half. “Who was the match, did you-?”

“Oliver needs to tell you something” George announced bluntly, shoving him in my direction.

“Okay… What is it?”

Oliver anxiously played with his hands and avoided to meet my glare.

“Oliver…” Fred urged him, nudging him too.

“I… I…” Oliver solely managed.

The twins sighed in desperation and each placed a hand on his shoulder.

“He’s crazy for you and he wants to ask you out” Fred finally burst out.

While hearing those words startled me, it didn’t surprise me. Somehow I knew Oliver fancied me, as he probably knew I fancied him.

“Really?” I asked him, secretly enjoying how hard he was blushing and how shy and cute he appeared. It was so rare and out of place…

Oliver just rapidly nodded his head, still staring at the ground below us.

“What do you say?” George asked me with a grin.

“Sure, I’ll go out with him” I simply replied, shrugging one shoulder.

Oliver shot his glare up in surprise.

“Great, now we’ll give you some time alone” The twins replied, patting him in the back, and walked away.

I waited for him to say something, but he was just staring at me with wide eyes, his face completely red.

“So that was the secret?” I asked him once the twins left proudly announcing they were the best wingmen ever. “That was the big secret you’ve been trying to tell me for so long?”

“If I knew you’d say yes right away I might have asked you earlier” He weakly smiled. “It wasn’t easy for me”

I laughed and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

“See, Ollie? It wasn’t that hard, silly” I friendly said to him.

He firmly took my hand and smiled charmingly.

“Shut up, Y/N”

Finally, he tugged at my hand to take me closer to him and closed the distance between us to join our lips together in a long awaited and great kiss.
