like father like daughter- rooster

Maverick never thought he’d see another Iceman Kazansky waltz into his life. He thought that man alone was one of a kind, someone who you would never find a replica of. But that all changed when Tom welcomed his little girl into the world some 30 years ago. From the looks to the hair, to the stature, to the attitude – she was Iceman’s twin.

She was you.

You were a prestigious pilot, looking to achieve the status of admiral just like your daddy one day. Since his passing, Maverick knew that things had been hard on you, so he essentially took you under his wing. You saw Maverick as an uncle, your closest confidant, and the person you ran to when Ice wasn’t readily available to answer life’s biggest questions.

Currently, he watched you walk forward through the doors, seeing the memorial for your father sitting in a glass case, remembering his image.

“I’ll make you proud, Dad,” You whisper, slowly removing your aviators.

“You’ve already made him proud,” Maverick’s voice calls out. You gasp, turning around to see your uncle standing there.

“Uncle Mav!” You exclaim, rushing forward. You remembered that a year ago, you were on this suicide mission.

He wrapped you up in his arms, practically lifting you off the ground.

“How are you, kid?” He asks, smiling at you. You nod your head, inhaling sharply.

“Surprised I’m here,” You said with honesty lacing your voice. You had been called back to TOPGUN to train the incoming fleet of pilots, to show them the content that you were once taught so many years ago. Maverick wraps his arm around you, shaking his head.

“You’re where you belong,” He promises you. “Your dad soared in the program as a teacher, you will too,”

Laughter escapes you, the two of you moving forward to where Cyclone and Warlock were waiting for a debriefing of the content you would teach. As soon as Cyclone saw you, he arose to give you a hug.

“Welcome back, Elsa,” Warlock chuckles.

You send a staggering glare in his direction. “That’s Ice to you,” You wink, bubbling with a laugh.

Cyclone sighs. “I never thought I’d see the day another Ice would grace our presence, but I suppose a repeat in history is good… In this case,” He chuckles. “Y/n “Ice” Kazansky,” He repeats your name.

As you were briefed on the training that would take place tomorrow, and the education guidelines that you would follow, you retreated. Once you finished up, you made your way out the door alongside Maverick only to find the front entrance swinging open, revealing him.

Sliding off his aviators, familiar green eyes meet your face. He dissolves with a grin, a humoring tease already presenting well on his features. Bradley Bradshaw takes a moment to look at you.

“The Ice Queen as I live and breathe…” He trails. “Did you bring a penguin with you?” He winks.

Rolling your eyes, you stare at him. Maverick chuckles, taking a step back.

“No, the penguins didn’t want to join for this trip… Maybe they knew before I did what company I was keeping. What’re you here for, Chicken?” You giggle.

“Chicken?” He asks as you start to pass by him.

“I’m here for the same thing you are, Snow White,” He chuckles.

Giggling, you nod your head. “Snow White? Hmm, that’s a good one. And I’m an instructor for the next five weeks, potentially longer if I enjoy my job.” You answer his question.

Rooster nods. “I’m here for the same thing. What do you say after this is all over, we go to the arctic and make some snow angels?” He smirks.

You scoff. “Snow angels with a chicken? Oh, no,” You sigh.

Rooster smirks. “You still know how to bite back… And you look so good doing it,”

Chuckling, you realize where this is headed. Maverick’s already hiding by the doorway, watching the scene unfold. You walk forward to stand upright in front of Rooster.

“Just don’t get in my way, Rooster,” You half-smile.

“So long as you don’t get in mine, Ice,” He responds.

And Maverick saw a maneuver that he had witnessed all those years ago. While you stared at Rooster, you barred your teeth and bit at him, before you flashed a glimmering smile. Maverick felt the onset of deja vu, staring at his niece who embodied his old pal like a trickster.

Rooster made a face, eyebrows pinched together.

“I’m so scared,” He teases, falling into a smile. “What’s your slogan again, Miss…?” He trails, knowing what he wants you to say.

You smirk.

“Miss Ice Cold, no mistakes,” You wink, finally giving him a hug. “Drinks at The Hard Deck later on?” You ask.

“I’ll be there at 6:00, dear,”

You wink. “Can’t way, honey,” You throw him the wiggle of your fingers before making your way out to your parked bike. Maverick chased after you, his face buzzing.

“I didn’t know you and Bradley were close?” He laughs.

You smirk, shaking your head. “He’s a good one, Uncle Mav… I consider him a really good friend,”

Maverick raises an eyebrow. “Just a friend?” He ponders.

Shrugging, you sigh.“We’ll see what happens after we get a few rounds,” You giggle, starting your bike.
