Tom Marvolo Riddle

The name rested on your wrist, written in a pretty font hidden underneath your sleeve. The person who responded to this name was your soulmate, your significant other, your missing piece.

As exciting and wonderful as it was to get to meet and know your soulmate, yours didn’t ever seem to notice you.

Sitting in your shared Potions class right now, your eyes drifted over to the dark haired male that sat across the room. Tom Marvolo Riddle - your soulmate.

Three years had passed since you had discovered your soulmate at the Sorting Hat ceremony when his name was called out, yet it appeared that he still had no idea who you were. There was always something going on with him when they called out your name, whether someone was talking to Tom or he was lost in his thoughts, but for someone as smart as he was - it was shocking that he didn’t seek you out sooner.

If you had to be honest, you were afraid you weren’t up to Tom’s standards as of lately, so you made efforts to avoid him as well. He was rather handsome and popular, while you were you. You didn’t want to disappoint him when you met.

So, you often hid from him.

“Hey, (Y/N).”

Your friend’s voice startled you out of your daze. Blinking you turned to look at her as they held up some ingredients.

“Do you think these are cut up finely enough?” they asked.

You looked over the handful and nodded. “Yeah, (F/N). That should be perfect.”

Getting back to the task at hand, you decided to focus back on the potion recipe. Unknown to you, Tom had finally heard your first name and was now watching you carefully with his brown eyes.

“(Y/N)…” he whispered under his breath. His hand unconsciously traced the letters of your name on his wrist. “(Y/N) (L/N)… is it you?”

Walking through the courtyard with books in your arms, you tried to remember the one spell to summon fire when you heard the familiar sound of your soulmate’s.

Spotting him with a crowd of his Slytherin friends, you bit your lip. You would have to pass by them if you wanted to meet up with your friends. He wouldn’t notice you, would he?

Risking it, you ducked your head and hurried to walk past them.

“…so you haven’t found your soulmate yet, Tom?”

You stiffened but quickened your pace.

“I haven’t gotten the chance to look for her yet,” Tom explained.

“I’m sure they’ll be incredible just like you are.”

Tom laughed. “Undoubtedly. They’re my soulmate.”

“What’s their name?”

Hearing that question, you darted behind a pillar. He wouldn’t reveal your name to everyone would he? There weren’t too many (Y/N)s out there in Hogwarts, it wouldn’t be long until everyone knew.

“That’s a secret.”

Complaint and playful groans filled the air. You let out your breath. Feeling nervous, you scurried off, not seeing the confused brown eyes that trailed after your figure.

I’m late!

The thought looped in your head, making your grow more anxious. You had been studying outside by the lake and with the pleasant weather out, you accidentally took an extended nap.

Currently rushing back to your house‘s Common Room, you really hoped you wouldn’t be caught by the residential ghosts or professors or prefects. You didn’t want to bring your house down a few points for your ignorance.

Quietly footsteps filled the air and you froze.

Those weren’t yours.

Trying to find a place to hide, you made a sharp turn and crashed into someone. They covered your mouth the moment you ran into them, keeping any surprised noises muffled. They pushed you up against the nearest wall, to hide your figures with the nearby curtains.

Looking up, your (E/C) eyes widened at the sight of who was in front of you.

Tom Marvolo Riddle.
Your soulmate.

He raised a finger up to his lips, signalling for you to stay quiet. You quickly nodded, knowing there wasn’t anything else you could do.

Tom peered around the corner, keeping an eye out for anyone. From your proximity, you could feel his charismatic aura. Just as you expected, he was an outstanding person. His wavy brown locks perfectly in place, his matching eyes caught the light just right, and his Slytherin coloured attire accentuated his handsome features.

How you ended as his soulmate was beyond you.

Tom turned, looking straight into your (E/C) hues.

“Found you,” he whispered. A look of awe filled his expression and you felt your heartbeat flutter. There was certain fondness in his voice. “(Y/N) (L/N). My soulmate. …why have you been avoiding me?

You blinked, tearing your eyes away from his.

“You knew?” you quietly asked.

“Not at first,” Tom confessed. “It wasn’t until I started looking for you a few weeks ago that I noticed you always disappeared when I’m around.”

“I… It’s just, I’m afraid I’m not up to your expectations, Tom,” you admitted. “You’re like the ideal guy that every girl wants - what every guy strives to be. I’m just me. It even took you all these years to finally notice me.”

Tom frowned. He gently cradled your cheek. “I’m sorry, (Y/N). It’s hard to maintain everything in my life, I… have a bit of a troubled past, so I’ve been trying to fully immerse myself here in Hogwarts. It doesn’t excuse my ignorance though.”

“Oh…” you breathed out.

“When I heard your name for the first time a few weeks ago, I tried to find you - and learn more about you. From what I hear, you’re an incredible and sweet person, (Y/N). I’m honored to have you as my soulmate.”

Tom put his hands on your shoulders, causing your focus to be solely on him. The rest of the world felt like it didn’t exist… were these the moments everyone talked about when they met their significant other?

You raised your wrist up, pulling your sleeve down to expose the inked name on your wrist. Tom was mesmerized, a look of pure happiness on his face. He mirrored your action, showing your own named inked in his skin.

“You found me, Tom Marvolo Riddle,” you mumbled, feeling emotional.

Tom grinned, leaning down to rest his forehead against yours.

“I finally found you, (Y/N) (L/N).”
