Riley was currently hiding away in a small coffee shop, waiting for her date to show up.

Granted, this wasn't technically a date.

She didn't think so at least.

As far as Riley knew, she and Chan were meeting up to celebrate Riley passing her English course.

During the hiatus when Riley didn't visit her studio, she (surprisingly) locked herself into her room to study.

Mya had been so shocked that she had staged an intervention to make sure that this Riley wasn't an alien.

But Riley passed, finally!

And of course when she let Chris know, he promised that he would take her out for coffee and today happened to be that day.

Riley was very careful with selecting her outfit today, wanting to make sure that she looked good for their date that wasn't a date. She had even enlisted the help of Alaska who dug through her closet with an annoyed face due to all the dark colours.

But eventually, Alaska found the perfect outfit for Riley and here she was now.

Waiting patiently.

Or maybe impatiently, she couldn't tell.

Sighing, the leader pulled her phone out to check her texts again.

Leader Bhang

Leader Bhang
I'll meet you there at 11:45!

Leader Nakano
See you then!

It was currently 11:53, so really Chan wasn't LATE, just running a little behind schedule.

Just then, a blurb of black walked through the door with the perfect amount of calm urgency.

Riley felt her heart flutter in her chest as she locked eyes with none other than the leader of Stray Kids.

At the sight of her, Chan instantly loosened up and walked over to her, his eyes crinkling into an easy smile. Even with a mask and a hat on, Riley could still see how happy he was to see her.

"Sorry Riles, I got caught up in recording a song for our most recent album," Chan apologized.
"That's okay, I get it," Riley shrugged. "You weren't that late anyways."
"Still, I feel bad. Go order anything you want, and as I said, I'll cover it."

Riley nodded as she stood up from her seat.

"Do you want me to get you something?"

Chan thought about it for a moment before nodding his head.

"Just an iced americano, please."

Riley sent him a smile and went to the counter to order.

Finally away from Chan, she let herself panic a little bit, her heart beating wildly in her chest.

Riley wasn't the nervous type, but clearly, that wasn't the case when she was with Chan.

He was just so perfect. She didn't dare to let herself think that he was perfect for her, but if she let herself hope... maybe that wasn't as bad?

Meanwhile back at the table, Chan felt his entire body heat up as he thought back to the interaction with Riley.

He couldn't believe that he was on a date with this girl. He couldn't believe that JYP hadn't said anything about them NOT dating.

Truthfully, Chan was more than willing to break the rules, but he didn't want that to have any hinder on the girls' career, similar to Jeongin's thoughts.

But clearly, Riley had agreed to show up to the date which meant she wanted him just as much as he wanted her. Right?

When Riley came back with their drinks, Chan sent her a gentle and grateful smile as he took a sip of his drink.

He watched as she gently blew on the coffee first before sipping and how she was so careful about not burning herself.

It was such a simple action.

And yet, it still made his heart race.

"So... Riley, I know that now might be a weird time to say this, but I feel like I have to tell you," Chan started, one hand fidgeting with the base of his hoodie.

But as he watched Riley tense up, he instantly tried to think of something else to say.

Was she not ready for a confession? Had he totally read the room wrong?

"I have to tell you... Berry started taking doggie dance classes!" Chan blurted out.

Immediately, Chan wanted to slap himself with how stupid that sounded. Since when would Berry take a dance class???

"That sounds really cute, are there videos?" Riley asked, suddenly no longer nervous.
"N-no because some of the dog parents don't want their dogs on the internet. Didn't sign the form, you know?"

If anyone else had been listening to the conversation, they most certainly would've cringed.

"Oh okay," Riley said, still clearly confused. "Well, I'm glad Berry gets to have some fun."
"Me too," Chan agreed quickly.

The two of them fell into silence once again.

Finally, Chan couldn't take the tension anymore. He had to tell her or else he didn't know when would be a better time.

"Riley-"
"Channie-"

The two paused, awkwardly laughing.

"You go first," Riley offered.

Chan nodded and gently reached for her hands that were holding her coffee.

"I know that this is only the first date, but I really want to keep seeing you like this. Like we could be something more than just label mates. Yours amazing, gorgeous, and talented, and I'd be more than honoured for even a chance with you."

Riley stared at him blankly at his speech and Chan scanned her face, trying to read her emotions.

"Riley? Did I say something wrong?"

Riley quickly shook her head, even going as far as to pulling her hands out of Chan's to wave them defensively.

"It's not that! I'd really really like to keep seeing you too! I just didn't realize this was a date!"

Now it was Chan's turn to stare at her blankly.

"What do you mean you didn't know this was a date?!"
"I honestly thought this was just for you to congratulate me on passing English! We never said it was a date!"

Chan let out a laugh in disbelief.

"Riley, I even called it a date once!"
"Some people just say that! Mya says that to Mari whenever they go out!"
"Mya and Mari are like a straighter Jisung and Minho! You can't trust them!"

The two of them stared at the other for a moment before bursting into laughter.

"I probably should've been more clear," Chan said, still laughing.
"I should've been better at reading the signals,"Riley said sheepishly.

Chan once again reached for her hand before looking at her.

"Let's go on a date," he said in English. "To make up for this one."
"Are you sure?" Riley responded back, also in English.
"Anything for my girl," Chan said smoothly as the two of them stood up.

As they walked out of the cafe door, Chan couldn't help himself.

"Your English accent needs work."
"Hey!"
