The Aftermath - Ryuichi x David Sylvian

~Sylvian's P.O.V~
I saw the envelope on the foot of my door. "What's this?" I picked it up and inspect it. There were no name or address of the sender and it wasn't even properly sealed. I opened it and pulled out the paper from the inside. "Oh... it's from her." I recognize that grass handwriting anywhere. "What is it now?" I sighed and sat down.

The letter explained why and it also said, "I never meant to compare you and I'm sorry that I made you angry." It sounded that she really meant it when writing this. I folded back the paper and put it on the table. I'm still angry but after reading it, I don't know how to respond and I know for sure that she doesn't want me to see her again after this.

(the next day...)

I woke up from a ringing on my front door. "Alright, I'm coming! Just a second!" I replied to know whoever was on the other side. I got up and the bell was still ringing. "Ugh, I'm coming!!" this is not what I expect to start the morning. I finally made it to the front door and opened it. "Ryuichi? I didn't recall you gave me a call last night." It was my best friend, Ryuichi Sakamoto. "Sorry, I was in a hurry." He apologized.

"I think I should let you get dressed for the day first." Thankfully he read the room. I invited Ryuichi in and let him sit while waiting. "Do you want anything while waiting? A smoke or a drink perhaps?" I asked. "Just a glass of water, please." I nodded and went to the kitchen. "Here you go." I came back with the glass and served it to Ryuichi. "Thank you." I nodded and went shower.

I changed my clothes after shower and tidied up my hair then met back with Ryuichi in the living room. "Sorry for the wait." I announced myself. "I didn't mind." Said Ryuichi and I noticed the glass was three-quarters empty. "Would you like to have breakfast?" he asked and I teased, "Are you asking me out?". "I have something to discuss and no, it's not a date." He smirked. "Oh, fine..." we had a good chuckle and went out to get breakfast.

Ryuichi and I walked around and I followed him when he entered a diner. "Deja-vu..." I heard him muttering. We ordered our preferences and took a seat. "Something feel familiar to you?" I asked about his muttering. "Yes, it's almost the same thing I did yesterday." He answered. I asked again if there was something important to talk about. He then oddly and specifically pointed out, "Yes, there is and I hope you bring that letter along."

I reached in my pocket and felt the paper inside. "How did you know that?" I suspiciously asked. "It's what she would do in this situation." Ryuichi simply answered and I muttered, "With me specifically.". "Excuse me?" I shrugged him off and pulled out the paper. "May I see it?" I lent him the letter and he read it while I continue finishing my food. Ryuichi took some time reading it then he looked at me,

"That's clearly her point and you do know it was a joke, don't you?" I couldn't answer that. "It's just—". "We both know how she talks. It does take some time to understand but you shouldn't have shut her out like that." I silently sighed and Ryuichi returned the letter back. "What should I do?". "Knowing you... it's up to you but my best advice is to apologize. Whether you like it or not." He sighed a smile and answered.

Both of us finished eating and we split the bills. I noticed Ryuichi smiling to himself while paying and we exited the diner. I thanked him for the morning surprise and he hoped that I can straightened things out. "I'll try. See you again in the studio?". "I'll see you there." Ryuichi then left after we bid goodbye. I pulled out a stick of cigarette and lit it up while wandering around for a bit, thinking if I should do it or not.

With half burnt cigarette on my lips, I decided to go to her flat. I rang the bell and the door opened but it was her roommate who answered. I believe her name is Rania. "Sylvian! You startled me.". "I'm sorry for the surprise visit. Is Anna home?" I apologized and asked. "Yep, she's here. But before I get her, you should put that out first." she pointed at my cigarette and I did as requested. She invited me in and called her friend, "Hey, homie! We got company! But you're not going to like it."

"Who?" asked Anna, coming to the living room then she saw me. I noticed her muttering something but I couldn't make out what it was. "Hello, David." She corrected herself and formally greeted me. "What do you want." She sat on the other end of the couch. "I got your letter and I—". "You want to throw it back to me?" she cut me off when I pulled out the letter.

"N-no! No. I come here to apologize." I can see the surprise under Anna's unwelcoming expression. "Are you?" she tried to keep her coldness. "Ryuichi was right... I'm sorry for shutting you out like that. Both literally and metaphorically." I didn't mean to crack a joke but I did slam my door on her face. "And I understand why you said it." I added.

"I accept your apology but I'm not taking back what I called you since you can be such a pain." Anna then threw a smirk at me. "I... Fine. Only the two of us knows this.". "Make that three!" I heard Rania screamed from the other room and Anna chuckled from her roommate's surprise interruption. 'I guess that lightened up her mood.' My thoughts on it.

"So... are we cool now?" she asked. "If you want to take it slow then I don't mind." I finally gave her a smile. "Then would you remind me to come to the studio? Ryuichi-san has been asking me." She requested and I giggled. "I'll let you know."
