Part 13: The Pleistocene Period

The Pleistocene is perhaps the most famous period of prehistory outside of the age of dinosaurs, though most people know it by its more common nickname; The Ice Age. Taking place from 2.58 million to 11,700 years ago, the Pleistocene saw the rise of many different famous prehistoric mammals, such as the sabre-tooth cats and the mammoths, but it also saw the first real success of humans, who were beginning to make their mark in the world, now being hunters rather than scavengers. While many famous creatures rose here, the Pleistocene would be the swan song for the great prehistoric mammals, as by the end of the Ice Age, they would all be gone, with only memories forged by the early humans left behind.
