Euchambersia

A strange group of mammal-like reptiles evolved during the Permian and Triassic periods-a group of animals called Therocephalians. However, one species, known as Euchambersia, is well known for its incredible killing edge-it was the first known land predator to use biological weaponry, in its case, venom. The Therocephalians in Walking with Monsters are depicted as being venomous, and since Euchambersia is the only known species to be venomous, that makes them the only plausible species depicted in the series.

Basic info

Meaning of name: Euchambersia means "Chamber's good animal".

Time of existence: Despite being shown existing in the Triassic period, Euchambersia actually lived in the Late Permian period, around 260 million years ago. However, it is possible that they crossed over into the Triassic as well.

Diet: Euchambersia was a carnivorous animal, and could hunt animals much bigger than themselves, such as Lystrosaurus, with their deadly venom.

Threats: Not much is known about what could have been a danger to Euchambersia, but its possible they were seen as prey by larger predators.

Size: Euchambersia was about 3 feet long.

Attributes: There is one thing that made Euchambersia stand out from any other predator at the time-they had a venomous bite, with its venom being even more potent than a black mamba's. They would leap down on prey from an ambush point and bite them, then wait for the venom to do the rest of the work.

Appearances in the Walking with... series

Walking with Monster

Episode 1-Water Dwellers

Euchambersia makes a very brief appearance in the opening synopsis, where it is seen leaping down and biting a Lystrosaurus on its neck.

Episode 3-Clash of Titans

Euchambersia plays a very minor role in the Triassic segment of the episode, and is only referred to as a Therocephalian. It is first seen emerging from behind a rock while stalking the Lystrosaurus herd. The Euchambersia slowly moves to a lower section of rock, before leaping down and biting the Lystrosaurus' neck. However, the Therocephalian quickly retreats, and the attack seems unsuccessful. The hunter returns to its perch, and we are told that it has an extremely venomous bite, which is already coursing through the Lystrosaurus' blood. Two more Euchambersia are seen joining, revealing that this is a pack. They watch as the Lystrosaurus collapses, and begin to move down to ground level. The pack approaches the dying Lystrosaurus and prepare to feed. They do not appear again after this. Curiously, the model used for them is the exact same model used for the Cynodonts that previously appeared in Walking with Dinosaurs.
