Chapter 8- The battle

"The only way out of the labyrinth of suffering is to forgive."
― John Green,

It was some time later at breakfast the children sat around a small table apart from Alex who stood aside the eldest watched as Edmund seemed to be eating all he could. "Narnia isn't going to run out of toast Edmund." Lucy told her brother giggling

"then you better pack some for the journey." Alex told the younger girl. "So we're going home?" Susan asked her brother, disappointed, while Peter said . "What about Narnia?"

Alex hesitated and thought carefully on his next words "You are, I promised I'd keep you four safe but there's no reason I can't stay and help." Alex knew back at home he could never have the life he wants to love who he wants but in narnia he would be doing good.

"but they need us...All five of us." Lucy said sadness was clear in her voice. Alex sighed "Lucy it's too dangerous. You almost drowned, Edmund was almost killed!" Edmund spoke up for the first time. "Which is why we have to stay."

They all looked at him before the youngest boy carried on. "I've seen what the White Witch can do and I've helped her do it, and we can't leave these people behind to suffer for it." Alex sits beside Edmund throwing his arm over the boy's shoulder and Lucy grabs a hold of Ed's hand. "Well I guess that's it then." Is all Susan says before standing up. "Where are you going?" Peter yells from his place on the floor. Susan Picks up bow and quiver "To get in some practice." the girl says, smiling.

The three boys are all riding their horses. Alex and Edmund practice sword fighting while Peter watches he had just finished practicing with Alex.

"Come on Ed, sword hand up like Oreius showed us." Alex heard Peter yell.

Out of nowhere the beavers come running up. Edmund's horse rears "Whoa horsey!"

"My name is Philip." The hoarse speaks up, Alex and Peter share a look attempting not to laugh. "Oh, sorry"

Mr. Beaver begins talking to the boys "you better come quick the White Witch has requested a meeting with Aslan..." Alex pulls Lucy up on his hoarse while Peter does the same for Susan; they all rush off back to the camp.

A dwarf begins yelling through the camp "Jadis.. Jadis!" The queen arrives at the camp, Cyclops carry something that resembles a bed...She then hops down, and walks towards Aslan "You have a traitor in your midst, Aslan" she tells the lion. Everyone throughout the camp gasps. "His offence was not against you." Aslan tells the witch.

"Have you forgotten the laws in which Narnia was built?" the pale witch asks. "Do not cite the Deep Magic to me , Witch . I was there when it was made." the lion finishes with a roar directed towards the woman.

"Then you will know that the boy belongs to me . That boy." she points to Edmund. "will die on the Stone Table." Alex takes out his sword and points it to the woman "You can either kill me willingly and leave Edmund alone or you can have everyone here see your downfall!"

"You think that a simple threat will deny me my right , Little king? Aslan knows that if I do not have blood as the law demands, all of Narnia will be overturned, and perish, in fire and Water." Alex steps closer to the woman "Take me, kill me i am the high king of Narnia-" Alex is cut off by aslan' s roar. "Enough, I shall talk with you alone."

//

Time slowly passes and the Witch eventually exits the tent "The Witch has denounced her claim on Edmund" Aslan shouts to all, causing all the Narnians to cheer. "How will I know your promise will be kept?" Jadis shouts to the lion.

Aslan roars. the White Witch falls into her seat and the Narnians laugh and the Pevensie children all hug each other. The witch leaves. Aslan sighs and walks back into his tent.

It is the next day and all three boys had just gotten word from their sisters whom had wondered off following Aslan, that Jadis had killed him. "Fear not my princes. I come with tidings of grave news.." the centaur tells them The three boys walk out of Edmunds and Peter's tent.

"It is true, he's gone." Alex says to them. "Then you'll have to lead us. There's a whole army out there waiting to follow you." Edmund tells his eldest brother. "I can't."

"Aslan believed you could. And so do I." Peter tells Alex Edmund nodding in agreement. "What are your orders?" Oreius asks. Alex looks at the map.

Alex sat beside Oreius in his armor sat on his dark brown horse overlooking the battlefield. "They come, your highness, in numbers and weapons far greater than our own." the gryphon tells Alex as he lands beside him. "Numbers do not win a battle." Oreius said shortly.

"No, but I bet they help." Alex told the centaur, the Witch's army began arriving trumpets being blown and cries of war are heard. Alex looks behind to look at Edmund and Peter who stand far behind, clothed in armor. With one last look around he lifts his sword up and everyone who has come to fight beside him cheers.

The witches' army begin running forward. Alex does not yet put his sword down but looks up towards the sky where squawks were heard coming from a flock of gryphons flying above. They begin dropping heaving boulders on the other side.

Alex turns to Oreius "Are you with me?" The centaur looks him in the eye "To the death!"

"FOR NARNIA, AND FOR ASLAN!" Alex yells as he charges forward ready to defend his kingdom. Alex holds his sword high as they charge at the other side fighting for and defending Narnia.

Alex spots the phoenix which Edmund had sent out the majestic bird sets the grass alight with its flames but it is soon put out by the witch on her sleigh. "Fall back! Draw them to the rocks!" Alex yells and the signal is then set off.

The Narnians all retreat Alex at the back making sure all soldiers make it. other Narnian soldiers shoot arrows into the air to the witches army. As the oldest Pevensies horse is running back suddenly an arrow is lodged into the horse causing the creature to accidentally throwing the boy off, Alex sees Jadis approaching before he can do anything Oreius And the rhino charges towards the witch "Stop! Oreius No!" The centaur charges at the Witch who ducks the attack, spins her wand and turns Oreius to stone

Alex watches as the Narnians are being attacked; there are too many. "Peter Ed! There are too many of them! Go! Get out of here! Get the girls, and get them home!" Alex shouts to his two brothers "Come on, you heard him!" Mr Beaver sys and begins to drag them away.

Ed and Peter start to leave, then sees the Witch. And both start to go back. "Alex said to go!" Mr Beaver tells the boys. "Alex's not King yet!" Edmund tells the beaver Peter nodding in agreement.

The two brothers rush down the hill and break the witch's sword, Alex doesnt waste any time before he runs towards the three people and stands protectively in front of his brothers Jadis takes the remains of her wand and pushes it into Alex's stomach causing the older boy to grunt but he doesn't fall he stays standing in front of her sword at the ready. "Alex!" both boys yell. Alex and the Witch begin to fight, lashing the swords at each other both getting in hits the Pevensie boy can feel the pain of every blow. They only stop when they hear the familiar roar

"Impossible!" the witch mutters but once again starts trying to hit the boy with her sword. The Narnians begin running forward to help the witch manages to get Alex on the floor he doesn't have time to react before jardis' sword is in his arm he screams in pain but the witch is soon tackled to the ground by Aslan everything begins to disappear "It is finished." aslan tells the boy who cant say anything before he falls to the floor.

Lucy pulls out her cordial and places one drop on Alex's lips. He stops moving no one can hear him breathing before he gasps and sits up.

"When are you ever going to put yourself before others?" Peter asks with a laugh and Edmund pulls his eldest brother into a hug.
