chapter 6- The fox

"You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough."
― Mae West

"What happened to them?" Peter asks while Alex says "it was the white witch wasn't it?"

"This is what happens to the enemies of the White Witch." The fox tells them all. "Stand still there traitor." Beaver orders the fox. "Relax, I'm one of the good guys." "Well you look mighty like one of the bad guys." Mr Beaver told the animal. "An unfortunate family resemblance, but we can discuss family breeding later right now we need to move."

"What do you suggest?" Alex asks. The Fox looks up. The Fox stays on lower ground, The Beavers and the children are in a tree...the wolves begin to approach. The Wolves break through the barrier as Fox is out in center "Evening gents, Did we lose something?" "Don't patronize me, I know where your allegiance lies. We are looking for some humans!" Alex hears the wolf growl.

"Humans in Narnia, now that's some valuable information" Mr fox says to the wolf. "Where are they?!" Lucy cries out, Peter shushes her. Alex watches as the fox looks around hopelessly , and then hangs his head in shame "They, they , were heading North." the fox says in shame.

"Quickly , smell them out." They cast aside the fox , where he lays whimpering on the ground. Mrs. Beaver is patching up the Fox, as the children listen to his tale "Are you all right?" Alex asks worried Mr fox had saved them all. The boy could never thank him enough; he saved his younger siblings. That's all Alex wanted for them to be safe even if Alex risked his life.

"Well, I wish I could say their bark was worse than their bite." Both Alex and the fox chuckled "Thank you truly Mr fox you saved us all i owe you my life." alex tells the fox. "It's the least I could do." He winces in pain, "Stop squirming! You're worse than beaver on bath day" Mrs beaver complains. "Worst day of the year" Mr Beaver shudders. "Well I am afraid that is all the healing I have time for."

"You're leaving?" Susan asked. "It has been a pleasure my Queen. I have been asked by Aslan HIMSELF to gather more troops." "You've seen Aslan!" mr beaver asked while mrs beaver asked "What is He like?" "Like everything we have ever heard. He'll be a good help fighting the White Witch"

"We are not planning to fight any witch." Susan disagreed. "Surely King Alex..." Mr Fox asked trailing off. "We just want to get our brother back." Peter told him. "I'll help you fight tell aslan if you can." Says Alex.

They are all now on the rock bridge and Mr Beaver is explaining to the children where Aslan's camp is as they look over the mountain. "Now Aslan's camp is just over there by the stone table just across the frozen river."

"River?" Peter asks skeptically. "It's been frozen for 100 years." Mrs. Beaver assures her. "It seems so far." says peter. "It's the world dear, did you expect it to be small?" Mrs. Beaver asks him rhetorically. "Smaller..." Susan mumbles. "Come on, before we're old" Alex had Lucy in his arms, somewhat speeding the group as they walked across the snow covered ground. "If he tells me to Hurry up one more time I'm going to turn him into a big fluffy hat." Alex rolled his eyes at Peter.

"Hurry up Son-of-Adam! We don't have all day." Alex laughed at the beaver. "He is getting kinda bossy" Lucy whispered in Alex's ear resting her head on his shoulder. They all begin to hear Bells  ringing and heavy footsteps along the river.

"It's her! Run!" Mr Beaver tells them all Alex begins running with Lucy in his arms while making sure both peter and Susan stay in front of him and in sight. "Quick down here!" They all hide in a small little cave under a slope Alex sits protectively in front of his sisters and brother.

They all hear as someone begins getting closer to them, watching as the unknown person's shadow appears in front of them all but still they all remain silent. A few minutes pass. "Maybe she's gone." Lucy suggested her voice quiet. "I'll go and have a look." Alex says going to stand but is stopped by Mr Beaver. "No, you're no good to Narnia dead. i'll go." the beaver says while standing up heading out the cave not before he is stopped by his wife. "Neither are you Beaver." Mrs beaver says.

"Thanks dear." with that Mr beaver left leaving everyone scared for his life.

There is a long pause until they hear some . Lucy screams as Mr. Beaver pops his head down and looks into the cave "I hope you've been good, because there is someone here to see you." Alex picks Lucy up in his arms and steps out from their hiding spot. They all walk up the slope and stop when they see a man standing there.

Alex's jaw drops as there is a man with a white beard  wearing red, Father Christmas stands there. "Merry Christmas, Sir!" Lucy says as Alex places her on the ground. Lucy then begins walking towards the man. "It certainly is, Lucy. Thanks to you."

"I thought there was no Christmas in Narnia." Susan queries taking a few steps forward. "It hasn't been for a hundred years. But now the Witch's power is crumbling." he goes to his bag and throws it to the ground. "Presents!" Lucy shouts in joy Alex hasn't seen her like this in a long time.

"Lucy, Eve's Daughter. These are for you. The juice of the fire flower. If you, or one of your friends are wounded, one drop of this cordial will restore them. And though I do not expect you to use it, this." Lucy takes the gift hesitantly. "Thank you sir, Well, I think I could be brave enough."

"I'm sure you could. But battles are ugly affairs. Eve's Daughter, Susan. Trust in this bow, for it does not easily miss." Father Christmas places the bow in Susan's arms. "What happened to, 'battles are ugly affairs?'" Santa chuckles "And, though you don't seem to have trouble making yourself heard, this. When you put this horn to your lips and blow it, wherever you are, help will come."

"Thank you."

"And, Peter son of Adam.'' Peter is handed a short silver sword which had a few patterns engraved into it. "Thank you sir."

"Alexander our saviour." Alex is given a long sword which had a lion's head sculpted at the top and engraved on the blade it said 'When Aslan bares his teeth, winter shall meet its death,' on one side on the other 'he shall return to save the land' as well as a shield.

"These are tools, not toys. The time to use them may be soon at hand" The older man told them all. "Bare them well! I best be off, winter is almost over and things do pile up when you've been gone a thousand years. Long live Aslan and Merry christmas!" he gets in his sleigh and rides off

"Bye... Merry Christmas!" the children all shout. Lucy turns to Susan "Told you he was real!"

"Did you hear what he said... winter is almost over. You know what that means... no more ice!" Alex points out.
