The Southern Air Temple

Groaning I tried to move my body, everything hurt, but there was some preventing me from moving.

I opened my eyes and looked at what it was.

It was...a cat?

A very big and heavy cat, that was laying on top of me.

(So I was thinking–since Aang gets appa and momo, we should also get a buddy, right? Also just imagine yourself or oc as Catra )

"Gah—Dude I can't breathe" I wheezed out.

The weird cat then got off me as it curled around me instead.

'Wait, weird cat—is this the same weird cat that I saved earlier?!' Damn they definitely got bigger... a little TOO big. How long have I been asleep?'

Sitting up I could see that my body was still translucent and blue. I blinked as I stared at the statues of people I didn't know.

Then it hit me, "*gasp* WAit, am I in the spirit world? Oh shoot maybe I did die again." I sweatdropped.

Getting up I winced as my whole body starts to pop like a glowstick, "DaNg, why the heck am I so crunchy?*groan* I may be 12 right now, but my back is telling me I'm 90." I said, I looked at the cat[?] and smiled.

"Did you stay with me? Thanks my guy, I hate being alone."

I felt my burns and wounds sting as I stretched, since I was in the spirit world I simply just walked through the wall. The cat followed right behind me.

I guess it was a spirit?

Looking around the temple, I realized that I may have been asleep for a long time.

But my main question is...

"How do I get out of the spirit world?"

Rumble

"Hey, stomach, be quiet alright? I'm trying to find us some food." Sokka frowned, searching through his bag only to find crumbs.

"Hey! Who ate all my blubbered seal jerky?!" Sokka yelled.

"Oh. That was food? I used it to start the campfire last night, sorry." Aang said, glancing back at Sokka.

"You what!? Aww, no wonder the flames smelled so good.." Sokka sulked.

"The Potola Mountain Range! We're almost there!" Aang smiled, excited to be back home, and to see a certain someone.

Katara worriedly glance at Aang, "Aang, before we get to the temple, I want to talk to you about the airbenders."

"What about them?" Aang asked, glancing over at her before looking forward again.

"Well...I just want you to be prepared for what you might see. The Fire Nation is ruthless. They killed my mother, and they could have done the same to your people." She stated softly, staring at him.

Aang's face slightly faltered, just the thought of his best friend being gone...

Quickly pushing that thought away, Aang smiled, "Just because no one has seen an Airbender doesn't mean the Fire Nation killed them all. They probably escaped."

"I know it's hard to accept.-", "You don't understand Katara. The only way to get to an Airbender Temple is on a flying bison, and I doubt the Fire Nation has any flying bison. Right, Appa?" Aang reasoned, rubbing Appa's fur.

"Yip Yip!", Appa began flying higher until they were face to face to the Southern Air Temple.

"There it is, the Southern Air Temple." Aang smiled.

"Aang it's amazing!" Katara beamed.

Aang's face softened, the thought of see his best friend again bringing a smile to his face. "We're home buddy. We're home."

---

"Man, this is getting boring." I said. I had been walking around the temple for hours hoping to find any signs of life. But all I had found were burn marks, articles of teared clothing, Fire Nation equipment, and...Bones.

The weird cat that I had saved, who I decided to name Sora, walked along side me throughout the temple. I ended up at my house, it was broken down and covered in soot, the door was thrown off it's hinges and some parts of the wall were missing. It was covered in vines and weeds, the colors of the walls had somewhat faded.

I walked to my room, which was surprisingly left mostly untouched, and laid in my bed as Sora curled up next to me. I stared up mindlessly at the ceiling for a bit, until the tears began to fall.

Everyone was dead.

Pushing my face into my pillow I started to shake, all the pain and misery that I had pushed aside during the attack returned. It was ok to cry, right? Besides...there was no one around to see you break down.

After wiping my tears I cuddled into Sora, who purred in delight, as I seek comfort. Closing my eyes, I decided to take a nap, just for a little while.

---

Quickly getting off of Appa, Aang happily starts running up to the temple with Sokka and Katara following slowly behind him.

"So where do I get something to eat?" Sokka complained, being hungry from the lack of food.

"You're lucky enough to be one of the first outsiders to ever visit and Airbender Temple, and all you can think about is food?" Katara asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I'm just a simple guy with simple needs." Sokka replied.

Aang excitedly starts pointing at the different areas around the temple as he's reminded of his childhood, "So that's where my friends, (Y/n) and I would play airball. (Y/n) would always end up losing and would take offense when the others teased her, she'd chase us around for hours! Oh, and over there is where the bison would sleep, me and (Y/n) would always hang out there with Appa—Appa would always end up licking (Y/n) because she smelt like (f/s). And..." (favorite snack)

Aang soon sighed and frowned as he recalled all his childhood memories.

"What's wrong?" Katara asked curiously, slightly frowning at the continuous mention of this (Y/n).

"This place use to be full of monks and lemurs and bison. Now there's just a bunch of weeds." Aang replied sadly. "I can't believe how much things have changed."

---

Finally getting over my mental break down, I got up and walked to the mirror in my room. I cringed slightly, my hair was messy and my Airbender clothes was covered in soot and were ripped in many places, I had burn marks and bruises all around my body. I also had some cuts here and there, my face was full of them, and I had some Gucci eye bags to top it all off.

"Damn... I look like shit."

Sighing I looked at Sora who blinked at me, causing me to slightly smile.

But the smile quickly dropped when I heard a loud boom from further away in the temple. Gasping I immediately ran out of my house and towards the noise, yelping when Sora threw me off my feet and onto his back.

Sora ran with me on his back towards where the sound came from, and what I saw left me speechless.

My eyes widened and I let out a breathless–

"Aang...?"

---

Sokka and Aang quickly ran after the lemur after they had mistaken it for Fire Nation.

Aang was in the lead, he swiftly entered the tent where the lemur had ran into.

"Come on out, little lemur. That hungry guy won't bother you anymore.", Aang stated as he lifted a piece of cloth, gasping at the sight in front of him.

"Firebenders? They were here?", Aang soon caught sight of Gyatso's remains–

As well as a VERY familiar scroll and (f/c) ribbon.

"Gyatso...(Y/n)", Aang whispered horrified as he dropped to his knees.

"Hey, Aang, you find my dinner yet?" Sokka stepped in looking around, only to find Aang on his knees sobbing while clenching a slightly burned (f/c) ribbon.

"Aang, I wasn't really gonna eat the lemur, ok?" Sokka panicked, as he walked up to him. Soon stopping when he looked up ahead.

"Oh, man. Come on, Aang. Everything will be alright. Let's get out of here." Sokka placed a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him but gasped as Aang's arrows started to glow.

"Aang, come on! Snap out of it! AHH–" Sokka screamed as he was blown away.

BOOM

"What happened?" Katara asked as she ran up to her brother.

"He found out Firebenders killed Gyatso."

"Oh no. It's his avatar spirit. He must have triggered it. I'm going to try and calm him down." Katara tried to get closer.

"Well, do it, before he blows us off the mountain!" Sokka yelled over the vicious wind.

---

"Aang?..."  I muttered  shocked as I caught sight of him floating in the air.

Looking around I saw Katara and Sokka holding on for dear life, while Katara tries to calm Aang down.

"Aang, I know you're upset, and I know how hard it is to lose the people you love.", she continued, "I went through the same thing when I lost my mom. Monk Gyatso and the other Airbenders may be gone, but you still have a family. Sokka and I, we're your family now."

I looked over at Aang, expecting him to start floating down, but to my surprise and the others, he stayed put.

"It's not working!" Sokka said before both siblings screamed as they lost their grip on the rock they had been holding onto.

Jumping off of Sora, I dashed to them and grabbed their wrists. I had forgotten that I was in the spirit world, my eyes widened as I remembered, expecting to see the two siblings fly off.

But instead of passing through their body's, I was able to firmly grab their wrists and pull them to the side.

"WHA-WhAt just happened?!" Sokka screamed as his voice cracked.

"Someone just saved us! But who..?" Katara trailed off as she looked in my direction.

Both siblings gasped as they faintly see a outline of a young girl in front of them. She wore an Airbender outfit that was filled with tears and covered in soot, as she gazed at Aang.

'Why didn't Aang come down?!'

I was panicking, not noticing the gaping siblings in front of me. I stepped away from them and went closer to Aang.

"Aang, please calm down! I don't want any of you to get hurt." I yelled, hoping he'd hear me.

I perked up when I see Aang slowly coming down, maybe he can hear me!

"Aang I will always be right beside you, you'll never be alone. Not with them by your side. They are you family now." I spoke softly, like when approaching a scared animal.

Aang finally landed on the ground. The other two ran up to him.

"Katara and I aren't gonna let anything happen to you. Promise." Sokka stated as Katara grabbed Aang's hand as the glowing faded away.

Katara quickly caught him when he began to fall, "I'm sorry." Aang apologized.

"It's ok. It wasn't you fault."

"But you were right. And if the Firebenders found this temple, that means they found the other ones, too.", Aang muttered miserably, "I really am the last Airbender."

"Well, what about that girl from earlier? You know, the one that saved us." Sokka questioned.

"Yeah, you're right! She was wearing Airbender clothes." Katara gasped.

I had been standing awkwardly to the side, now I was choking on air.

'THEY SAW ME?!?

Aang snapped his head up and looked at Katara with hope in his eyes.

"What did she look like?!" He asked desperately.

"She had (h/c) hair and she looked around our age. Oh, and she had an orange bracelet on her right hand." Sokka said.

"You saw (Y/n)?! Where is she!?" Aang exclaimed.

"Well, she was transparent and blue, and she kinda disappeared after you calmed down" Sokka explained.

'They saw me?...And Aang heard me! Maybe they can help me out of the spirit world!'

Hesitantly, I walked up to the three to see if they could see or hear me.

But after a few tries nothing happened.

"What the heck man" I frowned, I walked up to Aang as he look right through me.

I looked down and my eyes widened a bit, on his right hand laid a (f/c) bracelet.

Bringing up my right hand I placed the bracelets together gently smiling.

'So he kept it even after he left...'

I yelped when a blinding light came from the bracelets. Blinking I stared at Aang who had gotten up and turned around.

'What the heck is he doing?...'

"Aang?" Katara questioned.

"I...I felt her. She's here!" Aang said before sprinting towards the temple.

I hopped on Sora's back and went after him, hearing the other two calling out to Aang.

We ended up in the same room I had awaken in. And soon after Katara and Sokka walked in.

"Whoa, what is this place? Are they also you past life's Aang?", Katara asked looking at the statues.

"No...I don't even know who they are." Aang said confused.

"Hey Katara , wasn't there a legend about an Oracle or something?" Sokka looked over at Katara with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh yeah! Theses must be the Oracle's past life's Aang."

"The who and the what now?" Aang spoke dumbfounded, having never heard of this person before.

"They are able to see the future and are tasked to protect and guide the Avatar, while keeping them balanced, it's their main propose. Didn't the monks ever tell you about them?" Katara questioned, looking over at Aang.

"No they didn't.." Aang muttered.

Now I had been standing there in the middle of the room with the surprised Pikachu face meme.

'Okso people do know about me? And these are my past life's....'

I blocked out the others talking and stared at the statue in front of me. They were Fire Nation and had long silky hair that ran down her back, she wore fancy robes and seemed to stand with elegance.

I blinked just for a second, and before I knew it, all the statues began to glow a shade of (f/c).

All of us gasped.

I had taken a step back but then collapsed from fatigue. So there I laid in the middle of the glowing statues, crippled and gasping in pain.

I could faintly hear the three panicking, but I couldn't make out their words.

---

The statues had started to glow (f/c).

"Not again!" Katara yelled.

"What the heck is happening?!" Sokka shouted.

Aang was about to respond but was cut off when the glow became brighter and the three had to close their eyes.

Opening their eyes, there in the middle of the room laid a motionless body.

"OH MY GOD, THEY'RE DIED!!" Sokka screeched.

Aang slowly stepped closer before breaking out into a sprint having recognized that familiar orange bracelet.

"(Y/N)!", Aang dropped to his knees beside the young girl's body as he franticly scanned her over. She looked like a mess, Aang felt a sharp pain in his heart as he saw the condition she was in.

The siblings watched from the sidelines, anxious to see what would happen next.

"(Y/n)...please don't leave me. You pinky promised, remembered? You said we'd have each others back no matter what. You said you'd even crawl out from hell or fight this god person to stay by my side.." Aang chuckled.

He hugged you tightly before finally letting you go and trembled as he glanced back at the other two who shook their heads.

Reluctantly, he let go of your motionless body before walking to the others, not before glancing back at your body with tears running down his cheeks.

---

I slowly regained my consciousness and started heaving from the lack of air in my lungs.

'ShIT—WHEEzE—I love me some good oxygen.'

I coughed for a good minute before I sat up, I had this urge to look to my right so I did. The three looked like they just saw a ghost, Idk why tho.

'Wait can they see me? In that case—'

"Heh, I look pretty good for a dead bitch—ACK FUcK!" I got tackled to the floor by Aang who was sobbing buckets.

"(Y/N)!!"

"My DUde YouR CrUshiNg mE—" I wheezed out from under him, but he only hugged me tighter.

I huffed as I smiled gently, I patted and rubbed his back in an attempt to comfort him.

"I did pinky promise didn't I? What kind of best friend would I be if I broke that promise, hmm?"
