New life

It's been a few days since I left the hospital with my new 'dad' and it's been pretty...'great' so far..

We've been bonding and making a great connection with one another.

Hehe.

"What do babies eat?!!", my dad yelled while running around the kitchen.

While I cried on the kitchen counter.

'Did this man really forget what babies eat/drink?'

My dad then began to grab different foods for the cabinets and place them around me. But before he could continue there was a knock on the door and he went to answer the door.

Because you should definitely leave a newborn baby alone on a kitchen counter.

Opening the door it revealed a young woman with a few bags. She smiled at my dad and handed him the bags and waved before walking away saying, "it's for the baby, we thought it was the least we could do for your loss."

After closing the door he rushed back into the kitchen and placed the bags down and pulled out a container of baby formula.

Placing it down he glanced over at me before looking back at the container and connected the dots. He grabbed another bag and pulled out a bottle, he quickly peeled off the lid of the baby formula before he froze.

"This is just powder? Where's the formula!??" He shouted.

'Yep. That's my new dad.'

'Well this is embarrassing.' I thought while staring back at my dad.

You see after figuring out how to make the formula and feeding me, we ended up here in this situation.

While having a staring contest with my dad, who is in front of me, a horrible odder floats in the air.

Out of embarrassment I began to cry. 'What else am I suppose to do? Change myself?'

Using airbending, dad floated a diaper into his hand before staring me down and saying, "I'm going in."

Let's just say, things got messy. Very messy.

We've had our best moments...and worst. But eventually we got the hang of this whole dad and baby thing.

It's been months and I've started to get use to crawling and walking again.

My dad has moved on from my mother's death and has focused his attention on raising me and helping me learn airbending.

But we soon figured out that my airbending was different then the other airbenders.

"It's not working." I stated looking at my dad with dead eyes.

"Maybe your just not doing it right, here let's try together!" My dad said as he got into a airbending stance with me copying his stance to the best of my ability.

"I'll just walk you through the steps again, so don't give up, ok?", It had been 4 weeks since my dad started trying to teach me airbending, but I wasn't able to do ANY bending–NOT EVEN A LITTLE BREEZE!

While going through the steps again I had lost my balance and fell to the ground landing on my hand wrong.

Trying not to yell because of the pain I sucked in air instead, but while taking in the air I felt a strange sensation throughout my body.

"(Y/n)! Are you ok?! Let me see. I'll go get you an ice pack! Don't leave, I'll be right back!" Dad said panicking and ran into the house to get me a ice pack while I picked myself up and wiped the small tears from my eyes.

The sensation had faded and was barely there anymore, but I could still feel it. 'What was that?..is it an airbending technique?'

Deciding to see if I could feel the sensation again I started taking in a big glob of air. Soon the cooling sensation returned, it felt light and airy, I felt the air gather near the base of my mouth.

Soon I felt that I couldn't take anymore air in and stopped. It felt like my body knew exactly what to do next and I just let it happen.

Taking a proper stance I felt the cooling sensation hit its peak and soon after words flew out of my mouth and a magic circle appeared.

"Sky dragon roar!!"

The attack had been so strong that I had flew backwards landing a couple of feet away where I had once stood.

THUMP

Turning around my dad stood there in utter disbelief and shock. His eyes wide and face frozen, "(Y-Y/n)..how?..you just–the TrEe?!–*WhEeZE*"

Turning to what he was looking at I felt my stomach drop. The tree that had been growing in our backyard had a gaping hole right through the middle. Just like the flame pillar.

Blinking a few times and ignoring my wheezing father in the background I focus on the area near the tree as well.

"Now that's a lot of damage."

'But now that I think about it that wasn't really airbending...WAIT did I say sky dragon RoAr!? THatS FROM FAIRY TAIL?!'

"*AHem* (Y/n). How the did you do that?" My dad asked me walking closer with the now dripping ice pack.

"I don't know..but it felt right." I responded while getting back up, wincing as I had leaned a bit on my hand from before.

"Maybe the reason you can do airbending is because your doing it our way and not your way..." my dad mumbled while rubbing his chin.

"I'll have to talk to the elders about this." He said sighing, he scoped me up into his arms and started heading inside.

"I think that's enough training for today. How about I make your favorite dinner tonight? Maybe even a little pranking while we wait?" My dad adds while taking me to the living room.

"Ok!"

But one of my favorite memories is when I meet him.

My dad had taken me to go play and make new friends, of course me being me denied the idea immediately saying I didn't need friends and that they'd only let me down, BUT he dragged me out of the house anyways.

So here I am standing awkwardly near the chaotic children.

Looking around I tried to catch a glimpse at any possible escape routes but before I could even move a familiar face caught my attention.

"Why can't I play with the others?! All I do is train!" The young boy yelled at the older man.

"Aang it is important for you to master the art of airbending." The elder responded, having caught the boy after he ran away from his training.

As I came closer I could see the frustration on the young boy's face, who I recognized as Aang. I began making a plan to get us both out of here and soon started putting it in motion.

Sneaking closer to the two I made eye contact with Aang, I brought my finger up to my lips in a 'shh' motion, Aang gave a slight nod and turned back to the elder talking in front of him.

Moving quickly but quietly I used my 'airbending' to wrap his clothe around his head and gave him a good but gentle kick to shin.

Not wasting any time I grabbed Aang's hand and ran out of there, dragging him to my 'secret spot'.

We both panted as we stopped trying to catch our breathe, but it proved pointless because as soon as we made eye contact we burst out laughing.

"Did you hear the way he scream?! He sounded like a little girl!" "HAha yeah! I didn't think I'd be able to sneak up on him that easy!"

After we finished laughing and calmed down I stuck out my hand in front of him, "Anyways I'm (Y/n).", I said smiling.

Taking my hand he replied, "I'm Aang! Oh and thanks a lot by the way for saving me, I really didn't want to go back to training–it's so boring!"

After hanging out for an hour I brought Aang over to my house, where I found my dad pacing in the living room.

As soon as he heard the door open he snapped his gaze to me and relief filled his face, along with confusion and something else..?

"(Y/n)! Don't go running off like that, do you know how worried I was?! At least tell me where your going next time ok?", He rambled soon turning his gaze to Aang who had step out from behind me, making himself more visible.

"Oh? Did you finally make a friend?!" His eyes wide with excitement and joy with a big smile on his face.

Feeling my face warm up a bit from embarrassment I looked at Aang who looked like he was trying to hold in a laugh.

Hitting him with my elbow he wheezed and held his stomach in pain before standing right back up to introduce himself.

"Hello, my names Aang!" He exclaimed with a wide smile that lit up the room.

My dad's face changed to one of understanding, as if knowing who Aang was. Giving him a smile he responded, "it's nice to meet you Aang, are you both hungry yet? Dinner will be ready in a few minutes."

I nodded while Aang let out a "Yeah!" And we went to the living room to play until the food was done.

We became closer over the years and were best friends. We did everything together, we would do pranks, train, fly on our gliders, and tell each other everything.

But in the back of my mind I knew there was something wrong. Like the distance between my dad and me, he seemed more stressed—scared even.

Would I be too selfish if I say I wanted everything to stay like this? Being carefree and having fun.

But I should know by now that happiness doesn't last forever..
