Huntress

Meanwhile, we were on our way to the parking lot.

“Man, all that shopping really got me hungry.” Iris said, holding all her bags of newly bought clothes.

“Don’t worry; I had the cook made all your favorites tonight,” I said, “in celebration of Taea’s arrival of course.”

Taea blushed, “You shouldn’t have done that Huntress. I had fun with the shopping spree, there’s no need for dinner perfection too. You’re allowed to make some mistakes you know.”

I laughed and shook my head. “I didn’t do it alone.” I said, pointing toward Lei and Iris who nodded and gave her a smile.

“Yeah,” Lei added, “besides, it’s not everyday that we get to meet someone who we’d like to join our group.”

                                “Join your group?” Taea asked.

“You’ll understand soon.” Iris said. “And I’m glad that you had fun tonight and you could forget everything that happened in school.”

“Iris?” Lei said with an exasperated tone.

                                “Oops, sorry Taea.” Iris said.

“It’s cool Iris, I easily forget those kinds of things anyway, so there’s no harm done really.” Taea said, reassuringly.

“Well, good for you!” Iris said, relieved. “I mean, why dwell in the past, right? You can’t change it anyway… blah…. Blah…”

Lei and I walked toward Iris’ car listening to her blab away; I grinned and shook my head. Then I felt the common uneasy feeling I get before I fall into trance. I stopped and closed my eyes a waited for the vision.

“Right Huntress?” Iris asked. I didn’t answer; Iris and Lei glanced my way.

“Huntress?” Lei asked, reached for my shoulder, I easily stepped out of the trance and looked at Lei. Iris ran to my side.

“Does something hurt?” Iris asked, worried.

“No, It’s nothing.” I said, and looked back at Lei. “Iris, take our packages, will you?”

“Yeah, sure.” She said, questioned. “Huntress, you sure your ok? You look pale.”

“I’m fine Iris.” I said with a smile and then I faced Lei. “You sure you want to ride along with me?”

                                Lei nodded.

“Maybe you should ride with us.” Taea asked.

I sighed and shook my head. “I’ll see you two at home. Keep in contact Lei.” I said.

I grabbed my helmet and put it on. Lei put on her helmet as well and jumped on her motorcycle. Then we started our motors, I put up my eye shield.

"Be careful ok?” I said. “Stay on the highway and put up your roof, we’ll see you at home.”

                                Iris nodded, “Be careful.”

I nodded, put down my eye shield and drove off with Lei right behind me.

                                Hey, what’s up? Lei asked.

There’s gon’na be an attack. And I have a feeling we shouldn’t escape it. I answered.

                                To whom? When?

Tonight, on us. I answered looking around. This is the place.

We stopped at the end of the alley and looked around, Put your guards up.

Lei gave a nod, we drove in, and perfectly like on my vision, “Stop!” I shouted.

Lei stops and a dagger flew through her motorcycles’ spokes. I took off my helmet and threw it aside, Lei was about to move-

“Don’t move.” I said, listening and waiting for something, I finally saw what I was waiting for and, “Drive off!” Lei follows and drove straight, I was behind her. “Lei!” I shouted, we skidded to a stop, followed by an explosion ahead of us, knocking us off our motorcycles. Lei took off her helmet and threw it aside as well.

“Who are these people?” Lei asked.

“No time for intros,” I said glaring. “We need to go back, this was a bad idea.” Lei and I ran toward our motorcycles and was about to drive off, but someone blocked our way

“Who are you and what do you want?” Lei demanded.

“We’re your worse nightmare.” The guy raised her hand and produced a fire. He was about to throw it toward us but I held unto him. He panics and looked at his hand.

Lei smiled, “Is that with or without the mask?” she answered back and produced an electric current through her hand.

“what the-“ the guy tried to pull out his hand, “brother!”

We turned around and saw another guy, who produced daggers and sent it toward Lei, but Lei grinned and stopped it with her powers. The daggers dropped on the ground.

I stepped forward, “put the fireball away, or I’ll make you eat it” The first boy extinguished his fireballs, but I kept hold unto him. I gave them a thorough look, though I could not see their faces. “So, the Alley Phantoms huh?” I started, and smiled. “we finally meet.”

“Y- you were expecting us?” the fire controller asked.

I looked at them again, “I must admit that I expected something…” I paused, “well, more.”

“What are you saying?” the fire controller demanded, “I’m gon’na-“

I sighed, “Zip it Nayre.” I said, annoyed. I waved my hand over his face which took him by surprise as he couldn’t open his mouth.

                                “You know them?” Lei asked.

I tipped my head, “They’re my opponent in dirt bike racing. Right Rui?” I glanced over to the other boy.

                                “Y-you know us?” Rui asked.

“We race every week, we go to the same school…” I enumerated, “and of course there is something about your scent.”

He moved back a little as I took another step forward.

“Now, tell me Rui,” I said looking more serious, “who sent you?”

Rui doesn’t answer, but Nayre struggle and fidgets from my hold.

“I think this one wants to talk.” Lei points out.

I waved my hand by my face, removing the spell on Nayre’s mouth. He gasped for a while and glared me. “No one sent us! We attack who-“ But Lei waved her hand over Nayre’s face, shutting him up.

“Not exactly what we want to hear.” Lei said with a smirk.

“How do you that?” Rui asked.

“The same way you handle your blades.” I said casually.

“And how hotshot here could handle fire.” Lei pointed out.

Rui watched Lei. “But no one knows of our gift.”

Lei gave a small laughed, “You’d be surprised of how wrong you are. Now, tell us who sent you. And we won’t hurt you.”

Rui was looking at her bewildered and getting impatient.

                                “Nayre had answered-“

“Crap.” Lei whispered. “Still the same crap.” She stretched out her arm and produced an electric orb on her palm, “And I have just had enough.” Lei crouched ready to attack.

“Calm down Lei, you wouldn’t want to hurt him, trust me.” I said.

Lei calmed and made her electric orb disappear. Then she stretched out her arms and relaxed and put it behind her neck. “Well, do what you have to do,” she said, showing no interest at all, “I’m really getting hungry… and thirsty.” She glanced toward Rui with a smirk. Rui was surprised of Lei’s look and took a step back. But then his body stiffened.

“What the-“

“Sorry, but you wouldn’t like to see Lei hungry.” I said, “Anyway, this’ll be quick and painless.” I assured him. I walked toward Rui and reached for his forehead, I was rummaging into his mind, smiling every time I find something helpful or funny. There was a lot in his mind and I got a bit preoccupied that I lost track. Rui could feel me go through his mind and tried to fight off, and then a new idea came to him, it was a new memory, I wasn’t able to get through it in time to stop the dagger that he sent my way, which pierced through my side. I lost contact and concentration and moved back in pain.

“Huntress!” Lei calls out and run to my side.

I lost all hold of Rui and Nayre. And the moment Nayre was free he produced fireballs and sent it toward Lei. Lei blocked it with her electric orbs causing an explosion and the alley to be filled with smoke.

“Get down!” I called out to Lei, I dropped on my knees and pulled out the dagger and shuddered.

Lei knelt beside me still looking around, “Are you ok?”

“Yeah, I’ve had worse, listen…” I said holding through my teeth, pressing on the wound to stop the bleeding. “I have a plan, but I need you to hold them down, then run to your bike ok?”

Lei nods. Then I took a deep breath and calmed myself, “On my call.” I whispered to her. Then I clapped my hand together once and produced a strong wind clearing the alley, “Now!”

Lei see Rui and Nayre and sent dozens of electric orbs to block their path. Lei and I ran toward our motorcycles, then Rui sent a long metal pole in front of them, trapping the electric current through it.

“Shoot!” Lei whispers, and reached for her motorcycle, Nayre moves in and throws a dozen of his fireball at us, I saw a tank of dirty water and used it to extinguish the fireballs. Rui then sends daggers toward Lei who was intercepting it with her electric orbs stopping it in midair and fall with thud on the ground. Suddenly Nayre and Rui exchanged targets for a quick moment surprising Lei and I; I stopped Rui’s blade, while Lei was dealing with both fireball and daggers. One fireball escaped her and hit her on the stomach.

“Urgh!” Lei curled for a moment and then fought of the pain.

“Lei!” I called out and turned to her turning away from the fight for a second.

“I’m ok,” she answered, “its mortal’s wound.” Then from the corner of her eyes she sees Rui send a dagger toward me, “Huntress!” I turned, another late reaction, it hit my shoulder blades. I dropped down on my knees, in great pain. “Huntress!” Lei ran to my side, but Nayre sent fireballs toward her. which Lei intercepts as she knelt down beside me.

“I’ve had enough of this!” I growled.

I clapped my hand again, and dropped my hand on the ground, the ground shook and suddenly a storm appear above us, extinguishing the fire around us, stopping Nayre to produce fireballs, then I quickly and painfully pulled the dagger on my shoulder, and sent it toward Rui, Rui tries to stop it but couldn’t, but suddenly it came to a halt a quarter of an inch from his forehead.

I slowly stood up, holding unto my wound.

“Be thankful your fate are intertwined with ours, “ I growled, “or I would have easily killed you.”

Then I pushed Lei back, to her motor cycle, I moved back to my motorcycle as well.

                                “Can you-“

“The faster we get home, the better” I said. “if we stay together we’ll be an easier target.”

Lei nods, understanding my argument, I hopped on my motorcycle and rode off with Lei beside me, using only one arm to drive.
