Huntress

Later that night, I was sitting by the  window, my knee bent up my chest, with the same book from this afternoon propped in front me, while Hunter pace at the middle of the room and Jed leaning on the wall, looking at me. Iris was by the sofa watching Hunter walking around. Winter was sitting beside me glaring back at Hunter.

“So let me get this straight,” Hunter started again, “you found Dark Fortress, but you let her go?”

I rolled my eyes and shrugged, “For the last time Hunter, I didn’t let her go. I can’t force them to come. They should come in their own free will, just like dad said. Like normal people.”

I reached for Winter and scratched her ears; I noticed that she was growing fast.

Jed watched me pet Winter, “So you think she’s coming?”

“I know they will.” I said exasperated, “So would you just please shut up?”

I went back to reading. It never really took me this long to read a book, usually I could finish three books in one day, but with all the interruption around me, I could barely get through one chapter.

And as I was starting to get into the book, Arnold, the butler, arrived.

“Excuse me young miss Huntress, but a Mr. and Ms. La’ Pierre are here to see you.” he said.

I sighed, closed the book and swing my legs down to the floor and stood beside Winter.

“Very well, usher them here, thank you.” I said. Arnold left, then I turned toward Hunter and Jed, “And you two?” Jed took a step back, I reached for Winter’s ear again, “I’ll have Winter take care of you later.”

Then Lei and a boy who’s about a year older than her entered the library. I walked toward them, “Lei, I’m glad you and your brother could join us.”

Lei was still glaring at me. Probably still mad about this afternoon, I thought.

“This isn’t a social visit Huntress, and you know it.” Lei snapped. “What do you want from us?”

Then Hunter stepped in, “We believe that you are one of the people who we are looking for.” He lent out his hand for a shake, “I am Handrell Terrence Aentheney Alweynn Agamemnon Rhaiyvhenn, Huntress’ brother, please call me Hunter.” Lei’s brother took his hand and shook it, “And of course, these are our friends.”

He points toward Jed and Iris. Iris stepped forward and curtsied again, “I am Iris Kymmberliy Ann Monicah Anderson, please call me Iris.” The boy shook her hand as well.

Then Jed reached out his hand as well, “Jed Hudson Phillipp Lester Adams, call me Jed.” the boy shook his hand.

“And I am Maverich Luke Samuel Drake Alfonce La’Pierre, Mave for short. Lei’s older brother, and of course my sister,” he moves beside Lei, “Lei Margaux Simone Paris Camia.”

“Welcome Mave… Lei… please sit and feel at home.” Hunter said, showing them to the sofa.

“My sister tells me that she have met the ladies early today.” Mave said.

“We did, she was waiting for us at the roof top.” Iris said.

“So she had said,” Mave gave a small nod, “and she also told me about the incident?”

He looked up at me, “Incident?” Hunter asked.

“Well, it seems that your sister had greatly upset my sister when she calmly brushed off the attack my sister was planning.” Mave detailed.

That was an attack? I thought, a low laugh escaped, Hunter looked up at me. Mad big brother, not good.           Hunter sighed and looked back at the La’ Pierres, “Well, I’m sure she is sorry for upsetting young miss Lei.”

“Not really.” I said. Hunter gave me a look again. “What? I’m just telling the truth.” emphasizing the last word. Lei glared at me again. “Besides, I just got to see it. It made me a bit curious.”

                                “It?” Mave asked.

Hunter shrugged this time. And explained, “Well, they say that whoever had the ability to control the volts also has the ability to start a storm, a storm that you can actually see in their eyes before it appears.”

“And it is true,” I said, “it was strong in her eyes, but she still can’t generate it to become reality, still too weak.”

                                “Huntress?” Hunter calls out.

“Oh please Hunter, you know about this, and I’m sure you are glad that I was their. She’s obviously very unstable to produce such storm or lightning.” I said.

“I wouldn’t have done so, if you weren’t mocking me!” Lei angrily said.

“But like I said, I was curious.” I teased her again. “Besides, at least you have also proven that you are Dark Fortress.”

                                “Dark Fortress?” Mave asked.

“And I am deeply hoping you are Devil Incarnate, or I have to come up some way to erase your memories.” I said, giving Lei a mocking grin.

“Huntress stop that.” Hunter said, “Mave, my apologies.”

“It’s just a game that your sister enjoys,” he said with a nod of his head. “Beside I have never seen my sister so irritated. You are the first Miss Huntress. It’s quite entertaining.”

I smiled. And Lei rolled her eyes as well awed of how her own brother was making fun of her.

“Anyway, we’ve seen your sister’s mark, may we see yours?” Iris asked, “You are marked right?”

Mave nodded, and pulled up his sleeve and there it was. Jed looked at it then moved to the book which was at it’s usual place, the holder, propped open and ready. Hunter studied the mark and nods.

I watch Jed scan the book and nods, “It’s the same one. You are Devil Incarnate, the seeker. You can see what others sees, seeing, had seen or – probably in Huntress’ case- will be seeing. You can look for people that you’ve already seen or is familiar with.” He read out from the book.

“Who are these Devil Incarnate and Dark Fortress you speak of?”

We all exchanged smiles and told them the story.

Soon Lei and Mave were attending NSA with us. It has been a month since they have arrived at NSA and it has been quiet for us, no news from the others of whom we search. But it wasn’t quiet at NSA at all. With Hunter and I often busy with our obligation, we have seemed to forgotten our obligation amongst the students of NSA. It was in one of these days that I found myself sitting up at the rooftop, searching the future for some news from the others. Finally, I saw something in the near future. In fact it was too near. So I stood up and went off to the cafeteria where Lei and Iris were having lunch.

I walked slowly, Lei is strong but very emotional, I do hope Iris stops her, I thought.

Then I looked back to what I saw.
