The Banquet

He gets closer, foot by foot, and when it's just in touching distance, he reaches out to grab the star.

But he misses it, leaving the final star hanging from the outback canopy.

"Hey everyone."

Myself, James and John walk back into camp with the bittersweet news.

"Oh! You're back!" Noel smiles. "How was your day?"

"Well, we were going to build up and make it an announcement about how many stars we had, until we actually got them." James shrugs. "So... we got 10 stars."

Sair gasps. "That's incredible guys!" She comes and hugs me. "And I've been so hungry too!"

Time is knocking on a bit now, with the sun beginning to set over the horizon; the sky is a navy blue with silver stars.

"So... now we have to decide who isn't going to the feast." Fleur shrugs. "I mean I don't mind-,"

"No!" John interrupts. He holds his hands up. "I missed the flag, so I'll stay in camp."

"That's not fair!" Nick disagrees.

"Yeah, you went and won the stars for us. All three of you are going," Anne finalises.

When she's serious, her real Governess side comes out and oh my gosh isn't it fierce.

"So, who stays?"

"Me. I'm camp leader, and I haven't been doing anything over the past day or two because of that. I shouldn't be rewarded."

"Nick," I try to convince him otherwise, but he seems to be adamant on it. "Are you sure?"

"100%. Besides, I've been trying a new recipe with the beans. I'll try it out tonight."

Is it worrying that I have a bit of a crush on Nick Knowles, and he's old enough to be my dad?

At the feast ...

"Oh my god!"

I walk hand in hand with Sair to the banquet that we've all earned the right to - it's just a shame that Nick couldn't join us all.

Laid in cloches across the table are tonnes of food, from: scrumptious cheese boards, a ginormous stake, an extravaganza of vegetables, all the meat in the world, cake, chocolate, fruit and party foods.

We all sit around the table. I share one side of the table with my lovely girls, Emily, Fleur, Sair and Anne.

John is the one to reveal a cloche full of turkey slices.

"Dig in!"

We must eat for hours and hours. I know you're supposed to wean yourself back into the routine slowly and steadily, taking care of your stomach.

I don't.

"Oh my god, I'm gonna be sick!" Malique grunts, standing and walking to the bushes.

Malique has also been shoving food down his throat; maybe I should back off a little bit before I end up being sick too.

"So much for being lady-like!" I laugh at the barbecue sauce on the collar of my top. "I've been defeated!"

I must have eaten 30% of everything on the table.

After a while, everyone is stuffed. We couldn't beat the meal, but we gave it a good go.

"I need to lay down," Emily gulps down the final mouthful of her water, trying to flush the steak down her throat. "Should we go back and see how Nick is?"

It's a mutual decision to head back to camp, mainly due to Nick. However the sight of anything edible makes me feel nauseous, so going back to starvation sounds like the lottery.

"I'm never eating again!" I yelp, pushing through the brambles - one of them could touch my stomach and it would burst out in cocktail sausages.

"Not a good idea, Em." James guffaws. He seems to have been the only sane campmate who actually weened himself into the food.

He's so smart.

At camp ...

"Hi," Nick shouts, watching us all emerge through the bushes with plump stomachs. "How was the food? Tell me everything."

All the campmates try and sugarcoat it as none of us want to rub the deliciousness in Nick's face. I wish we could have brought some food back for him, but it would be classed as contraband and thrown away immediately by the rangers.

"Look at what I made!" Nick beans optimistically. In the pan above the fire are some circular patty's. "It's a bean burger. Try a bit?"

Even though I feel off the edge of exploding, I take a mouthful for Nick's sake. Bless him, we're all stuffed and he's been playing around with the smallest bags of rice and beans.

"They're amazing," I wince, feeling even sicker. "If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go lay down."

I begin to walk up to my hammock, but it seems like miles away, despite it only being a few meters up the shallowest hill.

"You going to bed?"

I turn to see James who's as fit as a fiddle, jogging around while the rest of us are all led out feeling sorry for ourselves.

"Here. I'll help you."

James picks me up like a baby, cradling me into his chest. He drops me into my hammock - luckily it doesn't swing and tip over this time. "Try and sleep it off, okay. You'll feel better in the morning."

"I will." I yawn. "Thanks, James."

He winks at me, wishes me goodnight and walks back down to the fire.

James P.O.V

Everyone seems to fall asleep at the same time, with the only conscious campmates being Nick and me.

"Hey Nick," I walk back from the telegraph for the final time this evening.

"Hi James," he sits on his throne. "I've been meaning to talk to you."

Nick asks me all about The Vamps, my music career, my childhood and everything in between about how I grew up to become famous. He then tells me about some guy called Biffy Clyro and how he made Nick famous in the music industry.

"Did you not have girls all over you?" Nick asks me.

"Kind of," I shrug. "But I never met someone who I really had a connection with."

He chuckles again. "But you have in here, right?"

My stomach flips.

"Who?"

"Seriously?" His eyebrows raise. "Come on. I know you have a soft spot for Emma. When are you going to ask her out?"

Emma and I have kissed twice, and each time has been magical. But what are we? We haven't said that we're officially together, because we aren't.

"Right ... I have to tell you something, but you need to promise me you won't tell another campmate." I swear Nick to secrecy.

Emma and I can't figure out what we are if we can't talk about it. And the reason we can't talk about it is that of other people with hearing it in this jungle.

"Emma and I ... we kind of had a moment."

He smirks.

"Yeah .... go on?"

"The night when we got the letters from home after the 'Terrorcotta' challenge, when everyone else was asleep..."

"Yes?"

"We ... I kissed Emma. But we haven't told anyone about it, mainly because we don't know what we are yet."

"Well ... do you want some advice?"

I shrug, staring down the fire.

"Tell the campmates. We've all predicted that you'll get together, so we're just waiting for the announcement. Heck, apparently some of the campmates have bets on it! Once you explain your situation to everyone, it'll be easier to figure out what you are."

Nick does give some pretty handy advice.

"Wait! People have bets on us!"

In the morning ...

"Good morning celebrities!" Dec and Holly make their daily journey into the camp to reveal who is doing the trial.

I'm sat on the edge of one of the logs, with Anne sat on my right. I haven't done a trial since the gladiators challenge with Malique, and I'm totally happy for it to stay that way.

"We are here to reveal who will be taking part in today's BushTucker Trial, 'Hellish Hospital'. In no particular order..."

"Sair, the public has decided ... it's not you."

"John ... it's not you."

"Anne ... it's not you."

"James ... it might be you."

"Harry ... it's not you."

"Emily ... it's not you."

"Fleur ... it's not you."

"Nick ... it's not you."

"Malique ... it's not you."

"Noel ... it's not you."

"Which means Emma, it might be you."

It's James or me.

"So Emma and James. The public has voted, and decided that the celebrity they want to see face 'Hellish Hospital' is ..."

"Emma."

Oh no.

"Emma," Holly turns to me. "Get yourself ready, and we'll see you in the clearing in a bit."

As Dec and Holly runoff, Emily gets up and pulls me into her soft chest. "You're gonna get all the stars."

"Hopefully."

I stand up and grab my water bottle from the side of my hammock. I then fill it with water from the green water-bag and go back to the fire to hug everyone goodbye.

"Get em, soldier!" Fleur takes me into her chest. "You'll smash it, babe."

James offers to walk me to the bridge like a true gent. As soon as we're out of sight of the rest of camp, and it's just me and him, he laces his hands into my own.

Once we reach the overhanging bridge, I turn to look at his handsome face. "Wish me luck."

He leans in and runs his soft lips over mine. How a boy can be such a good kisser, I don't know, but I let it happen.

My hands clutch onto his shirt pulling me further into him when his lips massage my own.

"I want you," he grumbles in my ear.

"What?" I gasp. "James! We're in the jungle!"

"I know." He blushes, obviously not expecting to say that. "But we can't hide this much longer."

"As soon as I get back, we'll talk and figure it out." I peck his lips.

"Wish me luck!"
