Chapter Nine - Diagnostics

Chapter Nine – Diagnostics

Knock, knock, knock...

Nate heard, his hearth pacing as he continued to run. The dark, endless, corridors of the Headquarters, at the end of the corridor there was light.

Light, he tried to reach...

Light, that will keep him safe...

Light, that kept running away from him.

He heard laughter. Whatever that was chasing him, it was laughing, it was enjoying it.

It was the same as before, there were more then one people laughing.

Knock knock knock...

The knocking got faster as it did before.

The light was closer now.

If I jump... Nate thought. He had to jump, and he did.

He jumped in to the blinding light.

And then, nothing happened.

The knocking stopped.

It was quiet.

“To quiet, right?” A male voice said, calmly. “Get up.”

Nate was on the smooth ground. He did what he was told, and he got up using his hands.

There was a man, the light behind him made it hard to see who he was.

“Am I dead?” Nate asked.

“Now, don't be silly!” the man said. Nate knew that voice.

“Dad?” Nate shaded his eyes using his hand and saw, that he was right. His father stood there, smiling reassuringly.

“Well, yeah!” his father chuckled and gave him a hug.

Nate hugged back, trying to understand what was happening.

“Where are we? What was that? The thing, that was following me? Tha-”

“Knocking?” his father finished for him “That, now... That was...” he paused and shrugged “I have no idea. But on the bright side... You are in the light. Now generally, people say 'Don't go in the Light' but I am pretty sure, going in to the light is better... Am I right?”

“What did you do?” Nate raised a curious eyebrow.

“Me?” his father paused, his smile fading. “I am not giving away any spoilers!” He smiled again, but there was something about his smile this time.

“Where are we?” Nate asked again, looking around at the bright room they were in.

“We are...” his father did the same “Well, we are in the waiting room. This is where we will know if you will live, or die.”

Nate looked down, so he was going to die.

“Why will I die?” Nate asked his father.

“He has AVM at his brain.” the Doctor told Mae. He was greeted by her curious looks after he got out of the Intensive Care Unit. “That is Brain Arteriovenous Malformations. It is a poorly formed tangle blood vessels. They have a higher rate of bleeding then normal vessels, and in Nate's case that's what happened.”

Mae heard Jessica gasped. That meant it was bad. Jessica watched lots of medical TV series.

“We managed to stopped the bleeding and he is currently stable. But we are keeping him under observation.” he continued.

Mae was relieved by that and she smiled. That's when she noticed how attractive the Doctor was.

He was like one of those doctors you would see on TV. Blonde, blue eyes, clean face, pretty nose and mouth, white teeth, tall and healthy body.

“Th- Thank you. Doctor.” she said and hugged him.

He nodded, and hugged back awkwardly.

“See? I told you he'd be fine.” Jessica said when the doctor left.

Mae nodded, smiling slightly.

Her eyes searched for Claire, but couldn't see her. “Where is Claire?”

“No idea, she suddenly left.” Jessica sighed “You should go home, rest. You are here for hours!”

“No, I'm- I'm fine.” Claire smiled. “That doctor was cute.”

“Yeah... I his name is Leonard Moore.”

“How do you know?” Mae asked.

“Oh... Well, I just saw him when he walked out of his office earlier. He was in a rush, I guess that explains it.”

“Oh, right...”

“...So then he said 'No I am not god! He is god!'” Robert and Nate both laughed at Robert's joke. Nate almost spilled his beer.

They were in a bar, now. A big one. But empty.

“Well, heaven sure does sound fun!” Nate smiled.

“It is! And I hope you die too, we will have tons of fun.” Robert nodded before chugging down his glass. It filled it self.

“I don't want to die... Not yet.” Nate looked down in his glass.

“Oh, then it's your lucky day.” Robert was looking at the entrance.

Nate looked at there too, wondering what he was looking at.

“Well, son, I got to go.” Robert said grimly. “This was fun.. We should do this again sometime... And hopefully we will do it sometime soon.” he said.

Nate tried to understand what he meant by that, while Robert got up, he started to walk to the entrance. And soon enough he was gone.

The lights of the bar started to flicker before going completely dark.

Knock...

Knock...

Knock...

The knocking began again.

“No... No no no no no... NO!” Nate yelled and he slowly opened his eyes.

He was in a hospital bed, he noticed by the serums and stuff around him. No one was in the room with him.

He was safe...

He was alive.

He started to laugh.
