40| A Dangerous Couple

♡♡♡
Quinn

The blood rushed through my veins as Mr. Kim stood before us with a devilish smile lingering on his lips. Ace instinctively pulled me closer to him which earned a mocking laugh from Mr. Kim.

Knowing how dangerous the man Ace once trusted, made me wonder how his life became like this.

"Did you come to introduce me to your girlfriend?" He chuckled and walked to a minibar at the side of the room. "Drinks?"

He didn't wait for us to answer before walking over with a bottle of Hennessy and three glass cups. He sat and poured the drink into the cups. Deciding to take the first move, I held Ace's hand in mine and lead us to seat across from him.

"Good evening Mr. Kim.... I don't believe we've met before." I gave him a perfect smile and he returned it.

"So what calls for this?" He questioned, taking the drink in his cup down in one gulp.

I reached for my glass and gulped it down just as fast as him. I wiped my mouth and my glass made a clinking sound as I placed it on the table. "You really have no idea?" I raised an eyebrow.

I loved how Ace trusted me enough to let me begin what we went there for. I could fully access Mr. Kim and figure out his weakness. I still couldn't believe he was responsible for all those deaths. His warm smile, the way his eyes almost disappeared whenever he laughed, his square-shaped glasses which sat on his nose bridge, and the way he was dressed comfortably made him seem like a normal friendly man but he was the exact opposite.

With the knowledge I have of him, his warm smile now seems mocking and dangerous and his rich laughs now seem like a warning to save yourself.

"Other than Ace trying to tell us he isn't interested in our daughter anymore by bringing you here no," He said giving Ace a quick smile and turning back to me. "She's a feisty one Ace."

I smirked.

"Thank you. I'll take your last sentence as a compliment," I laughed and threw my hair behind my shoulder. "And yes, please. This fine man over here is taken by me as you all know so I have no idea why you're hurting your daughter by pushing her toward a man whose heart belongs to another."

"Nayoung and Ace go way back miss Manchester," Mr. Kim said with a low growl and I nodded.

"And so do we," I said as a matter of fact while holding his gaze and he remained silent only letting a huff escape his lips.

His dark eyes locked with mine and neither of us wanted to break away first. I gave him a little smile.

"Mr. Kim we're here about what happened the other night." Ace broke the tension with a straight face.

We broke our eye contact at Ace's words.

Mr. Kim turned to Ace immediately with a look of surprise on his face. He returned his gaze to me and back to Ace and let out a rich laugh. He shook his head and poured himself another drink.

"We?" He questioned between the laugh. "You mean your precious little lamb here also knows about my company? You're going around telling people Ace? Putting innocent people in danger?"

"You really didn't expect Ace to keep stuff from me did you?" I chuckled. I could feel how this conversation was putting a lot of things at risk but I was ready to take that risk.

"I didn't expect Ace to bring you to your death darling."

"Mr. Kim!" Ace yelled as slammed his hand on the table creating a loud bang sound and stood up.

"Wow, you're all grown up now and are yelling at me?" He chuckled and crossed his legs. "I warned you, didn't I? I said your parents are the only reason I'm leaving you alone but Quinn? I have no reason to let her live with the knowledge she has."

In less than a second Mr. Kim's collar was in Ace's grip and Mr. Kim was no longer on the couch as Ace's grip had him on his feet. The tension in Ace's body and the fire in his eyes as he glared at Mr.Kim increased by the second. Where I sat was directly in their middle from across them. A low chuckle escaped my lips as I poured myself another drink and took a sip.

"Don't you ever think about hurting Quinn." Ace's voice came out stern and rough, threatening Mr. Kim.

"If you go as far as touching a strand of her hair, I would kill you myself. In the worst way you can imagine, and I would destroy everything and everyone you love!" Ace growled as he tightened his grip on Mr. Kim's collar.

Mr. Kim remained silent as he carefully took off his glasses and his gaze turned to me. I placed my hands on my chest and waved with my other hand with a smile on my face. Annoyance filled his features and he sneered.

"Nod if you understand or should I make sure you never forget my words by ruining your life?" Ace asked as his patience was running out.

"I guess she has you huh?" Mr. Kim laughed and shut his eyes. "You're family is known for quietly killing people so I guess I should better listen to your threats huh?"

His family is known for killing people?

"She always has me."

"Then you have my words, Mr. Winston. I'll treat her like you. Just leave my shirt now," Mr. Kim said to Ace as he gestured to his shirt.

Ace held onto him for a while before roughly dropping him on the couch which earned a huff from Mr. Kim who glared at Ace while adjusting his shirt.

"Apologize to her," Ace said to Mr. Kim.

He paused and glared at Ace a look that screamed, 'Are you fucking with me right now?'

Ace tilted his head and raised an eyebrow at Mr. Kim's hesitation.

"You don't want to? I guess you won't mind Nayoung going to jail first?"

Mr. Kim's eyes widen and his chest rose. He pursed his lips together and turned to me. I batted my eyelashes at him innocently which made his jaw click in frustration.

"You haven't fully become the owner of the company and you're welding this much power?" He asked Ace with his gaze still on me. "What happens if you actually get it? You think you'll be so different from your grandfather who you hate so dearly?"

"So what? You'll support the others who want to take the company from me?" Ace laughed and placed his hands in his pocket. "You should try your best because once I become the boss, you'll be facing a lot more than what I'm doing now. So first apologize."

"I'm sorry for threatening you," He mumbled with his gaze on the painting above where I was seated.

"Huh?" Ace's eyebrows creased. "Come on now, you spoke a lot louder when doing the threatening."

"I'm sorry!" Mr. Kim yelled this time around and I had to purse my lips to stop myself from laughing.

"There we go." Ace clapped and walked over to sit beside me. He held my hands and gave me a wink. "Are you okay?" He asked, looking concerned.

I nodded with a smile. "Thank you, for defending me."

"Always." He placed a soft kiss on my lips.

We were interrupted by a cough from the other man in the room. "What a dangerous couple," Mr. Kim purred, mockingly. "What was Joshua thinking setting you up with a Manchester? She's just like her mother."

I knew Joshua was Ace's grandfather but what shocked me was hearing Mr. Kim talking about my mother.

"What are you saying?" Ace questioned.

"You came here to find out where your parents are right? I already let the cat out by speaking about your dad, it must have taken a toll on you," He laughed and raised his glass before taking a sip.

I squeezed Ace's hand to stop him from replying. "You're right. It did take a toll on him. Which is why I'm here, I'm surprised you didn't figure that out since. That's why we're here. Tell us, tell us the truth. And how do you know my mother?" I replied instead.

He let out a raspberry and threw his hair back. He looked at us mockingly and brought out a box of cigarettes and a lighter. The smell of the cigarette reeked in the air as he lit it and took a whiff.

"Your mother is a very wonderful woman Quinn. I admire her you see, I really do. She knows exactly what she wants and she makes sure to get it. Just the little time I spent with her..." He trailed off and nodded his head. "It makes me wonder how much she must want before her plan is complete. I can't wait to see how it'll all end."

"Where did you meet my mother?" I asked feeling myself get worked up. How does my mum know Mr. Kim? There's not one thing that links them together. Suddenly the time I mentioned Ace's grandmother to my mum flashed through my mind and I remembered the red liquid running down the stairs and the scared look on my mum's face. My mum mentioned that she was friends with Ace's mum back in Canada.

"I was surprised too." He faked a surprised look and busted out laughing. "Ah, you poor kids." He looked at both Ace and me. "I met your mum where I met-" he pointed at Ace, "your mum and dad."

Both Ace and I sucked in a sharp breath at his words. Both our words shattered instantly and at the same time, we tightened our grip on our hands, telling each other it was okay.

"And where is that?" Ace asked this time.

"A place where no one would have thought to search for them, they're all so smart if you ask me," he chuckled and took a whiff of the cigarette in his hands.

"Where?!" Ace and I yelled in frustration.

His eyes widened at our outburst and he placed his cigarette in his half-filled glass. He leaned back into his seat and smiled at us.

"John Hopkins psychiatric hospital."
