JACOB POV

I was staring as Tess was being pulled along the sidewalk by her dad. Before I knew it my eyes started to water.

"Mum.. Wha-what's he going to do to her"

"I don't know Jacob, we need to report this. Tomorrow at school ask Tess if he has done anything else. This might have been the first time he had done something like this and Tess might not want to be taken away from her dad."

"But what he is doing.. It's illegal!"

"I know, that's why we need to work this out as soon as possible."

"Yeah.. So your not mad Tess and I are dating?"

"Oh I'm mad Jacob. But we have bigger problems right now. In the meantime, I don't want you seeing Tess anymore."

"That's not fair!"

"So your think Matt beating up Tess is ok? No. If he sees you with her, don't you know how much trouble that it would cause?"

"I guess"

Once I had finished eating some dinner I walked back upstairs to see Tess's room. I walked in and started to slowly cry. I stared out her bedroom window, looking out onto the city view, knowing Tess was out there somewhere. My tears began heavier so I went back into my room and laid on my bed. I put on Netflix and with that I fell asleep.

next day

I woke up to my alarm going off. I signed and got out of bed. I wore a white teeshirt with a logo and some grey shorts, it was boiling hot weather. I couldn't be stuffed doing my hair so I put on a light blue SnapBack.

Once I arrived in school I saw Tess. As I walked up to her she began to quickly walk away from me.

"Tess?"

She turned around. Her beautiful blonde her in two braids flowing in the air. As I stared at her I noticed she was wearing a long seleve white adidas tops with a grey jacket and some black jeans. Weird, as the weather was so hot.

"Hi." Tess said, looking down.

"Is that all your going to say? Hi? Your dad just dragged you out of my house. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Don't ignore me. Your not fine." I said while Tess just ignored me

"Tess why are you wearing that? It's 42 degrees out."

"It's cold in here."

I had enough. I walked up to her and lifted her seleve for her jacket and teeshirt up. There were red marks all over her arm.

"Tess..." I was about to ask her what happened when she pulled her sleeves down and walked away from me. I chased her down the hall when the bell rang. I honestly didn't care at all. I kept on following her. All off a sudden she turned a left. I knew were she was going. The girls toilets. She noticed I was following her and rushed into the girls bathroom. Still, I didn't care. I need to find out if she is ok. As I was about to enter the girls bath room someone pulled me back.

"Jacob Sartorius!" I looked up and it was the school principal.

"Yeah, Mr Boyd?"

"What do you think you were doing?" I just looked down and didn't answe the question. I heard him writing and then he lifted my head up and handed me a detention slip.

"Now get to class." I nodded my head and with my detention slip in my right hand, I began walking to my first lesson.

3.30pm

The bell had just rang and everyone was gathering their books to head home. I walked out the lesson with my books and put them in my locker. Tess was nowhere to be seen so I decided to make my way to detention.

I walked in I to detention to find empty desks. I sat in the second row. Mrs Smith staring at me. I sat there fiddling with a rubber band that I found on the floor for the first few minutes.

Before I knew it I started to here some banging noises. They became louder and louder.

"Uh Mrs Smi-"

"Shh" she said, staring at a book she was reading.

"What's the nois-"

"Shh" she wasn't any help.

About 10 minutes later Mrs Smith stood up.

"Stay here! You still have twenty minutes. I'm going to make some more coffee." I nodded my head as she left the room. The banging continued when I looked up and saw an air vent. The air con was on but no air was flowing through this particular air vent so I figured it was safe to climb through.

I really wanted to figure out what that banging was. I grabbed a chair from the desk next to me and set it in front of the air vent. I climbed on the chair and reached up to take off the screen for the air vent. I dropped it on the floor and lifted myself off the ground into the air vent.

I climbed through the enclosed little tunnel. As I was about 60 metres through when I saw a coke can. I picked it up and it was empty. That's weird. I threw it behind me then turned a corner in the tunnel. I found a packet of chicken flavoured twisties and a half empty bottle of water above a ladder.

I climbed down the ladder to find a small room with a few Cob webs in the corner. I looked down and on the ground there was a thin, white blanket and a light pink pillow on the floor. There was also an apple laptop and a few bottle of water on the side.

Someone had been living down here!

All of a sudden I heard some footsteps coming. I couldn't believe who I saw
