Mind over matter by Young The Giant
"And when the seasons change
Will you stand by me?
'Cause I'm a young man built to fall"

"I have something for you. I don't know if you will like it, but I think you should at least try it," Alysanne says to Aemond as they sat in her room, preparing for their first lesson on their new dragons.

Aemond walked closer to her. He was already in his riding clothes, which was all black, much like the rest of his clothes these days.

They made eye contact in the mirror as Alys opens her drawer. Aemond continued looking at her as she ducked down to retrieve it. He only removed his gaze to look at the thing in her hand.

It was an eyepatch.

Aemond gave her a glare through the mirror when he though she was jesting with him. She turned around to look at him as he slightly towered above where she was seated.

"I know you haven't accepted it yet, but I think this will help. Plus it will make you look ten times cooler than everyone else," she tries to convince him.

He stared down at the girl and decided he would once again do whatever she tells him too. He took the eyepatch from her with a huff making her squel in excitement.

She quickly made him sit on her chair facing away from the mirror, as she started to slowly unwrap the bandages around his head.

When she removed the final piece she saw a purple stone where his eyeball should be. She guessed it looked a lot better than a hole with nothing but darkness.

She noticed him staring at the ground ashamed. He couldn't bare to have her see him like this. She would probaly never look at him the same.

She lifted his head up, so that he was making direct eye contact with her. She then placed a gentle kiss above his eye near the still fresh looking and healing scar.

It stung a little because of how raw the skin still was, but he would suffer a million times worse to feel her lips.

She then started putting on the eyepatch and he was left to sit admiring her. From this close he could now clearly see the scar across her eyebrow, it wasn't unnoticeable and if you paid attention you would easily see it. He had seen it often these past few days, though it took nothing from her beauty. It made him wonder what happened to her shoulder.

"There we go," she had to him, snapping him out of his thoughts. He turned around to look at himself in the mirror. He still hated how it looked, but it certainly look better than a dirty bandage. And the fact that Alys gave it to him made it three times better.

"I think you look incredible. But we must go before our dragons decide to leave us in this dump." She says pulling him towards the door.

The dragonkeeper was lecturing the two in high valyrian, as another stood beside him occasionally translating bigger words. Though the kids could slightly understand him, they had to endure many lessons before even having their own dragons.

But Alysanne was not listening, Aemond knew he was listening for the both of them. The dragonkeeper said nothing worth noting so he let her admire her dragon that stood behind the keeper. She had survived the ride from Dragonstone, which was over an hour. He was sure she knew what she was doing.

After the lecturing the dragonkeeper started actually telling them how to control the beasts, and with a slight shove from Aemond, Alysanne actually started listening.

"At the end you really just have to have a bond with your dragon." The other dragonkeeper says huffing at the older man who was once again beginning to scold them. He decided to just tell them something useful instead of actually translating. "You have to become one with the dragon. One mind and one goal. And they will obey, if your intentions are forward and true. You must learn your dragon and it must know you. After a lot of time in the air, the trust will become natural."

"So can we go in the air now?" Alysanne begs. The younger man translated it to the older one, who simply let out a huff and nodded his head.

The two children shared a grin. Before walking to Silwerwing. It was only then they brought Vhagar in to the clearing.

Aemond's stared at the beast in bewilderment. He still could not believe the mighty beast was his.

Alysanne also had to take a moment to gape at the huge beast. She had of course seen it before, but it was still an incredible sight.

Aemond looked at the girl beside him, who stood gaping at his dragon, with a smirk. She simply rolled her eyes as the dragonskeepers started helping them up.

"I will see you in the air, my prince," Alysanne said to him in High Valyrian before turning to her dragon and commanding it to take off.

He took a few moments to admire her. She was truly born to be a Targaryen and she did it perfectly.

When he saw her turn to wait for him, he commanded his dragon the same way. And he felt the great beast start running and taking of into the sky. This time he didn't scream, but instead listened to the sound of flapping wings and guided it to the other dragon.

Alysanne started going higher up into the sky. She let out a breathless laugh as the grew nearer to the clouds.

The wind in her hair. The slight burning in her eyes. The excitement and adrenaline in her chest. The boy on the dragon right below them. It was perfect.

This is what they had been waiting for so long.

She turned to look at Aemond. He was struggling a bit more that her because of how big and uncontrollable his dragon was. But she could still see the grin on his face as they looked at each other.

She let out a shriek and a laugh as she was  suddenly hit with a cold and wet substance. She then looked back infront of her to see they had flown through a cloud. And instead of being fluffy and comforting, it caused a shiver to go down her body.

The two dragons came to a stop across form each other. The two children looked at one and another and let their laughs fill the space around them.

They were up in between the clouds. Alone. Just the two of them. On the dragons they had wished for so long.

This was truly what they had waited for.
