We can't be friends by Ariana Grande
We can't be friends
But I'd like to just pretend
You cling to your papers and pens
Wait until you like me again
Wait for your love
Love, I'll wait for your love
I'll wait for your love
Love, I'll wait for your love

The next morning turned out to be no problem. Alys had woken up only a few minutes after Aemond, and no one had entered his chambers. So he had prepared them a tea and the two sat on the couch near his window, talking about Alysanne's adventures.

She told him about the excruciating flight there, the feast with Lord Cregan, all the events in the woods and the story of Theo. He sat listening to her for over an hour, and he could have sat there for many more. Though Cassella came to warn them that maids were waiting for the princess in her chambers. Aemond did not turn around when she entered, and the second she left he put his eyepatch on and with that his invisible mask. He became a different person within seconds. Alys couldn't blame him, she did it too.

So with lingering dread she left his chambers, hoping one day they would be able to spend time together without shame.

The day had gone by pretty quickly she had told the Queen about her trip, though she didn't tell her everything like she did with Aemond. She didn't even tell Cassella as much as she did Aemond. Aemond knew every single detail about her, but it was only him. No one else had that luxury.

He knew her before she knew herself. He was there with her through everything. He knew how her mind worked. He knew her, not many people did these days.

Right through the day her thoughts were centered around Aemond. His handsome face in the dimly lit room, his smooth skin under her fingers, his one blue eye that held secret admiration, the purple stone only she got to see, his soothing voice when she's half asleep and admittedly the greatest sleep she had ever had. She wanted to do it every single night for the rest of her life.

The two barely saw each other. Alys spent time with the Queen and Cassella, and she went to visit Theo to see if he survived the night in "this horrid dump" as he called it. He had a lot of complaints about Kingslanding, but he still thanked her, he could now sleep with both eyes closed.

Aemond spent his day as usual training and riding Vhagar. It was after dinner time Alys had finally joined him in the library. She would usually find her own book and they would read in silence. But they haven't spent time in the library since the Dornish had come, and Alys was craving his presence. And his touch.

So much to Aemond's suprise, not that you would catch him complaining, Alys sat right next to him and question what they were reading. He told her about the book, he wasn't far in so she was quickly caught up, though she was more focused on his voice than his words. When they started reading Alys lifted his arm and placed it around her shoulders, making herself comfortable in his side. Aemond liked the position and found this to be the greatest hour he has ever spent in any library. They sat together in silence reading and occasionally commenting on something. They didn't know how long they were there, they just knew they wanted to stay.

Moments like these and last night had to mean something to her, right?

The peace he felt in her presence was a  mutual feeling right?

Something must have changed.

"I have gathered you all here to announce that Prince Aemond Targaryen and Princess Cassella Martell's courtship has come to an end," The Lord Hand said to the few people in front of him. It was only the royal family, everyone who came with Cassella and a few other Lords.

Alys stood between the two. She first looked to Aemond who stared ahead with a straight face, but feeling her gaze he quickly glanced at her ,seeing the grin she was trying to conceal. She then looked to Cassella, who was already looking at her, and the two girls shared matching smirks.

Cassella knew she had to play matchmaker, or nothing would ever happen.

She glanced past Alys to look at Aemond, who was trying to discreetly stare at her best friend. When he realized he had been caught by the Dornish Princess, he glared at her, but she simply gave him a smirk and a wink, before turning to the Hand who dismissed them.

Cassella was officially Alysanne's lady-in-waiting and the two could spend all their time together. It also meant Aemond was no longer courted, which was ofcourse also a very good thing. The two best friends could be seen out in the open, without rumors of unfaithfulness.

Though the rumors of the two having a secret romance was brought back to life. Alicent was quick to hear of it.

★★★

Short but sweet (800 words, sorry)
I just want to get to the romance.
