Pre-game thoughts: This ship was requested by a deleted user (who I unfortunately cannot find the username of), but I figure it's fairly topical, what with Wannabe recently being completed (yes, six weeks ago constitutes "recent," in light of the two-and-a-half-year hiatus it endured).

It's also been on my mind because I've been cross-posting it to a website called Archive of Our Own lately! AO3 is a very different site from Wattpad, but there's a very fine selection of high-quality Inanimate Insanity ficery there. Do I ship this?: Yesish!

Why do I/don't I ship this?: I find it to be extremely interesting as a dynamic because there's so many ways to view it. You can see it as toxic, or as a situation where they both genuinely care a lot about each other but have unhealthy ways of coping with it sometimes. The way I wrote my current Saltpepper story leans pretty far in the latter direction, with their toxic tendencies being downplayed, but I could just as easily explore the darker parts of their personalities.

Is this my favorite ship for one/both of the characters?: Yes, because there's so much interesting, uncharted territory with it! It says as much about the person looking at it as it does about the actual couple.

Thoughts on the ship name: Saltpepper is the most common, but I love Pepsalt; it's cute and poppy! ("Sepper" is an alternative, but... there's already a ship called Sepper in a community that I used to lurk in...)

My favorite story involving these two: I'm unfortunately the only one who's written a Pepsalt story, so I'd like to recommend that! "Wannabe" is a sugary take on the dynamic that has gripped the heartstrings of some folks. Check it out on my profile or on THIS AO3 link!!

Things I enjoy in art/stories about them: The art is cute!

Things I wish I saw more of in art/stories about them: More stories in general, but also acknowledgement of how close these two really were in Season 1. They were practically dating until Salt developed a crush on OJ to cope with losing Pepper.

Five headcanons about them:

I like the idea that Pepper and Salt's BCFFs thing before the show was more than many people assumed it was. They held each other's hands and each other more times than I can remember in Season 1; they loved each other so much that Salt developed feelings for OJ to cope with her BCFF being gone.

Though they're both ditzes, Salt and Pepper have sides they don't really show to anyone else. Salt is softer and sweeter than you'd think, while Pepper is very passionate and remembers all their anniversaries.

Whenever they walk on a sidewalk (which is rare), Pepper always takes the side closest to where the cars are, so she can throw Salt out of the way if there's an errant car.

They wear and steal one another's sweaters all the time! Pepper notices and revels in the fact that her wardrobe is getting pinker, while not even noticing Salt stealing her own purple sweaters.

Pepper used to steal money from OJ so she can take Salt on fancy, expensive dates! OJ had no idea who kept doing it until his credit statements came back and $2,000 had been spent at Salt's favorite restaurant in one night. OJ had a very stern word with Pepper about it, and Pepper tripped him after, but now OJ hides his stuff more carefully, so they have to get creative.

A story I'd write about them, if I had the time/interest: I would love to answer this question, but I am, in fact, working on some stuff with their dynamic at its core! Stay tuned; there should be something coming to Snapshots within the next week or so! Buuuut...

Divorce Court, in which Pepper and Salt have a huge disagreement over their different tastes in music, but as Pepper's lawyer OJ and Salt's lawyer Paper debate through the heartbreaking minutia of who gets which sweaters, will Salt and Pepper fall in love yet again? Featuring:  making out in the kitchen between trial sessions, Paper "this isn't how courtrooms work" Contrarian-ing, and OJ having something important to tell Paper when it's all over and done with.

The holiday that best reflects this ship, and why: You know those school Spirit Weeks, where there's a variety of themes you're supposed to dress up for? PepSalt is those in general, but also
