Idol (1)

Seungmin, a young Korean-American man (guys ,let's pretend this is true), and his Korean-Australian friend Felix found themselves in a whirlwind of excitement and culture shock as they stepped off the plane in Seoul, Korea. The two had decided to take a gap year from their university in Australia to explore their heritage and hopefully find themselves in the process. As they navigated through the busy airport, Seungmin couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging wash over him; the bright lights, the loud music, and the overwhelming number of people all seemed to conspire in creating an atmosphere that was uniquely Korean.

Their first stop was the JYP Entertainment building, the infamous K-pop powerhouse responsible for producing some of the biggest names in the industry. Upon arriving at the reception desk, Seungmin and Felix were greeted by a tall, impeccably dressed secretary who introduced herself as Miss Lee. She informed them that their appointment with the president of the company had been moved up and they were to follow her immediately. As they walked down the brightly lit hallways, Seungmin couldn't help but feel a mixture of nervousness and anticipation bubbling up inside him.

As they waited in the president's office, Miss Lee handed them each a company card with their names on it. "These are for you," she said with a smile, "it shows that you have potential to become K-pop idols here at JYP Entertainment." Seungmin couldn't believe his ears; he had always dreamed of becoming a K-pop star, but never in his wildest dreams had he expected this opportunity to fall into his lap. Felix, on the other hand, seemed less than thrilled by the news; his expression was one of confusion and apprehension.

When the president finally entered the room, Seungmin was on the edge of his seat with anticipation. The man introduced himself and proceeded to ask them a few questions about their backgrounds and why they were interested in becoming K-pop idols. Felix answered cautiously, while Seungmin spoke with an enthusiasm that could not be ignored. The president seemed impressed with both of them, but after a brief pause, he turned to Felix and asked him point-blank if he was interested in accepting the offer. Felix hesitated for a moment before shaking his head no.

Seungmin was taken aback by his friend's response; he had assumed that Felix would jump at the chance to become a K-pop idol just as much as he had. But the president didn't seem deterred; instead, she kept on pressing Felix about his decision, explaining all the benefits that came with being part of JYP Entertainment. As they walked down the hallway after their meeting, the woman continued to plead her case, her voice becoming more insistent with each passing moment. Seungmin could feel Felix growing increasingly uncomfortable with the situation; he shot his friend a worried glance, silently asking what he should do.

Finally, they found themselves in a quiet waiting room where they could talk without being overheard. Felix turned to Seungmin, his expression a mix of confusion and frustration. "I just don't know, man," he said. "It's not that I don't want to do it, but it's just so much pressure, you know? I mean, we've only been here a few hours and already she's practically begging us to sign on." Seungmin nodded understandingly, but he couldn't help feeling a twinge of disappointment. He had always imagined that their gap year would be a time for them to explore their heritage together, and becoming K-pop idols seemed like the perfect way to do that.

As they sat there, lost in their own thoughts, the secretary who had given them their company cards appeared in the doorway. "I'm sorry to interrupt," she said apologetically, "but the president wanted me to let you know that the auditions will be held a week from today. You should start preparing yourselves in the meantime." Hearing this, Seungmin felt a mix of excitement and apprehension well up inside him. He glanced over at Felix, who still looked uncertain, and couldn't help but wonder if their dreams of becoming K-pop idols were about to come true after all.
