AJ hesitated to pull her phone out. John was at work and Lily was playing with Paul's daughter Mary. She was alone. AJ let out a breath and finally pulled out her phone. She clicked on the contact and made the call.

"Hello?" The Doctor answered his phone.

"Doctor? It's AJ, I need you." She said.

"AJ! This isn't really a good time! I've kinda got-" The was a scream in the background."I'm a bit preoccupied!"

"Sorry, I just. . .need you." AJ sighed.

"I'm sorry AJ but I really have to go." The Doctor whispered. Now it was dead silent in the background. Then the end of the line went dead.

AJ waited but nothing happened. She finally pulled the phone away from her face and sat down on the bed. She put her phone back in her bag and went off to take a shower. When she came back she got dressed into jeans, a tee shirt and a zip-up maroon hoodie. She left the house to go to Paul's and pick up Lily.

Once she arrived, she knocked on the door and was greeted by Linda.

"AJ! Come in, come in." AJ gave Linda a smile and entered the house. "The girls are upstairs, I'll go get Lily for you."

"Thanks." AJ replied and waited for Linda to come back with Lily.

They came back down only a few moments later, AJ thanked Linda again and then they left.

"What did you two do?" AJ asked as she an Lily walked down the street.

"We played with Mary's dolls." Lily said happily, skipping down the pavement.

In the distance, AJ saw something tall and blue. Her eyes lit up and she grabbed Lily's hand and started to run. Lily, caught off guard, ran quickly by AJ's side.

The box was parked out front of John's house and the Doctor himself was at the front door.

"Doctor!" AJ called. The Doctor turned around and so did a girl. She looked around the same age as AJ and had short blonde hair and bangs.

"AJ! What do you need?" The Doctor replied happily.

"Here, come inside, we'll talk." AJ said, taking her key out and opening the door. John wasn't home yet and they had the house to themselves.

"Oh, yes! AJ, this is Rose by the way." The Doctor introduced her.

"Hello," Rose said, offering AJ a smile. AJ nodded, acknowledging Rose, then closed the door behind her. The Doctor made himself at home on the couch and Rose brushed her short blonde hair her ear before taking a seat next to him.

"Lily, why don't you go upstairs?" AJ asked. Lily nodded and left the three of them alone. AJ sat down too.

"John's going on tour." AJ said quickly after she knew Lily had gone upstairs.

"That's wonderful! You got the band back together! I knew you could do it." The Doctor grinned.

"He wants me to come along."

"So why don't you?" The Doctor asked curiously.

"Lily doesn't have anyone else to go to." AJ said slowly. The doctor nodded slowly also, not quite understanding.

"Did you want me to take her back home?"

"No, that's not fair to Lucy who would have to watch her." AJ told him. "I want you to watch her, Doctor."

"Me? Why me?"

"Because I trust you."

"Excuse me, sorry, but are you guys talking about the little girl who was just here?" Rose asked. AJ nodded. "Doctor how could you say no to watching a sweet little girl like that? It'll be fun!"

"Yeah, Lily's not much trouble. She's really good." AJ told him.

"But I don't want anything to happen to her!" The Doctor insisted.

"And I don't either! That's why I want her to go with you, Doctor."

"Doctor, she's young still, she needs to have fun. Just take Lily off her hands for an adventure, then, using your time machine take her back to the day the tour ends." Rose told the Doctor.

"Fine, I suppose I could do that." The Doctor finally agreed.

"I'll go get Lily." AJ said, standing up. She went upstairs, "Lily?"

There sat Lily, over by the window in tears.

"Hey, hey, what's wrong Lil?" AJ said, coming over to her.

"You wanna get rid of me!" Lily cried.

"No, no, no!" AJ mentally smacked herself. Of course Lily would eavesdrop.

"Yes! You said it!" Lily pointed to AJ accusingly.

"I didn't mean it like that Lily, I swear. I'd never want to loose you." AJ said, sitting down next to Lily.

"But you said-" Lily started to say but AJ took her hands.

"Shh, Lily, it was a surprise. I wanted the Doctor to take you on an adventure." AJ told Lily to make her feel better.

"Why can't you come?" Lily asked through her tears.

"You don't want me to come, I want you to spend time with the Doctor. He's really fun." AJ offered Lily a small smile.

"But I don't wanna go without you." Lily sniffed.

"You'll be back in no time Lily, you'll barely know I was gone."

"Promise?" Lily asked, her bright green eyes shimmering with tears.

AJ held up her pinky, "Promise."

Lily put up her pinky too, and the shook pinkies on it. When they pulled back their hands, Lily looked out the window to see John walking up to the front door. AJ noticed him too.

"Are you two going to get married?" Lily asked, not taking her eyes away from the window.

"I dunno. I don't really like weddings." AJ smiled for Lily, nevertheless.

"Well when you do get married, I wanna be the flower girl." Lily smiled and turned around to look at AJ.

"How do you know if we're getting married?"

"Because I'm smart!" Lily exclaimed.

"Okay, little miss smarty pants, let's go get your things." AJ said, standing. She held out her hand and helped Lily up. Lily wiped her eyes and followed AJ back downstairs to the guest room where AJ and Lily stayed. Lily stuffed all her things into her bag and then AJ zipped it up for Lily to put on her back.

"You ready?" AJ bent down to ask Lily before they left the room. Lily nodded and bent over and kissed AJ on the cheek. AJ smiled and ruffled Lily's hair, "Come on."

"All set to go?" The Doctor asked, jumping up from his place on the couch.

"Yeah." Lily said, walking over to him.

John was sat on the couch when the two came downstairs. He didn't look annoyed about the two people sitting in his living room, so AJ thought that was good.

"'Bye Johnny." Lily have John a hug.

"'Bye Lily." John said, returning the embrace.

"Rose, can you take them to the TARDIS? I'll be out in a minute." The Doctor said, taking a seat again.

"Sure," Rose nodded and led AJ and Lily to the TARDIS.

The Doctor waited until the door was closed before he looked over to John and spoke. "This is goodbye for now, Lennon." The Doctor gave him a smile. "Take care of her."

"I will." John nodded.

"No, really, if anything happens to her-" The Doctor started. John chuckled, cutting him off.

"She'll be okay. I'll see you around, Doctor."

"Okay," The Doctor hesitated. "See you." He waved and then left to go back to his TARDIS. It was nighttime now, the sun had set. He walked over and into the TARDIS.

"Doctor, thanks, I think I'll get going now." AJ said, walking over to him by the door. She put her hands in her back pockets.

"Take care of him AJ." The Doctor told her.

She nodded, "Will do."

The Doctor pulled her in for a hug. "Okay, and take care of yourself too." She nodded and then pulled back.

"See you later Rose! Be good Lily!" AJ called to them.

"See you!" They both said. AJ smiled and the Doctor showed her out.

"Goodnight, AJ." The Doctor said as she started to walk away and back toward the house. Then, he closed the door and the TARDIS disappeared.
