Get Back

"I don't want her to come with us." John told Brian later, the night he broke up with AJ.

"Well she is coming John, so suck it up." Brian told him, patting him on the shoulder. "And I want you boys to make sure she knows what plane to get on and when to get on it. Understand?" Brian looked at the other three. They nodded. "Good. Now go get some sleep so you don't miss your plane tomorrow." Brian shooed them off and they all went back up to the hotel. AJ was not in sight when they arrived back home, but John didn't seem to care as he wandered off to his room and closed the door behind him.

The others looked at each other. They knew Brian wanted her on this trip and if John wasn't going to help they had to at least try to find her.

"I'll go check downstairs, you two ask around." Paul said as the others nodded.

The city was awake still, and so was she. AJ, not knowing she was missing, sat downstairs in a small café next door to the hotel. She had a mug of hot chocolate and a plate of crumbs on the table in front of her. Quietly, she sipped from the mug as cars passed behind the glass window next to her. The mug gradually emptied of hot chocolate as she slowly sipped it, looking up at the tall buildings outside. And then, a figure blocked her view, but as soon as it was there, it was gone. AJ's head turned toward the direction of the door as she watched Paul walk inside. He quickly spotted her and took the empty seat across from her.

"Hey, we've been looking for you." He said quietly, trying his best not to draw attention to himself.

"We?" She asked, bringing the mug to her lips.

"George, Ringo and I."

"Why?" She put the mug back down.

"You weren't back at the hotel." Paul said like it was obvious.

"Oh." AJ said simply and looked back out the window of the café. "I don't wanna go back there."

"We won't be there much longer, we have to board tomorrow to Bulgaria."

"I don't want to go, Paul." AJ tried telling him again.

"But," He tried reasoning, "you have to."

"Says who?" AJ picked the mug back up and took another sip.

"Brian. Is that hot chocolate?" Paul asked changing the topic.

"Yeah. Hot chocolate and a croissant," AJ nodded toward her empty plate, "it was my breakfast when I was a kid." She sipped from the mug again. I don't seem to have hot chocolate as much I used to. I really do love it." AJ told him.

Paul nodded in understanding.

"AJ?" He asked after a moment of silence.

"Yeah?"

"I'm sorry about what happened with John, he just gets frustrated easily." Paul explained.

"Tell me about it." AJ rolled her eyes and finished off her hot chocolate.

"Will you come though? At least to Wales?" Paul asked hopefully. John was already angry, he didn't need Brian to be that way too.

"I suppose, if that's what Brian wants me to do." AJ replied.

"Good." Paul said, clapping his hands together. A few heads turned toward their table. "Now we should get out of here quickly." Paul gave AJ a swift smile and AJ let out a small laugh and stood. Then Paul grabbed her hand and they ran out of the café.

The next day was hectic. Everyone had to be up by three in the morning to make the five o'clock flight. AJ ended up falling asleep rather quickly the night before and wasn't as tired as anyone else in the morning. Then again, the boys were used to it.

The time was 4:45 am and everyone was sat in a chair at the airport. Although John and AJ were sat next to each other, neither seemed pleased. Only a day ago, the two wouldn't have minded. They would have been holding hands and smiling, the mood would be lighter, happier. Only, life didn't work that way. The tension was thick and the mood was anything but happy.

"I have to go to the bathroom." AJ said quickly and stood up. Her legs were numb from sitting on it for a while and it felt good to walk around. AJ washed her hands with cold water and then pressed them to her heated face. She lingered for a minute, not wanting to go back, but finally decided she had to.

As she came back to the chairs, she noticed they were empty. Confused, AJ figured she must have gone to the wrong set of chairs. But then she saw her black rucksack sitting where she left it, under the chair. She quickly picked it up and threw it over her shoulders. Looking around, her eyes dashed everywhere in sight of John, Brian, or anyone else.

Then, when she thought she saw someone, she ran that direction. The man had just passed his gate and AJ halted just before the gate.

"Ticket, Miss?" The man at the gate asked. AJ still looked out into the distance. The man she was following turned around to talk to his friend. It wasn't any of them.

"Oh, um, wrong gate." AJ said quickly. Backing away from the gate, she looked up at the signs. She was meant to be at gate A16 and the signs told her she was in the wrong place, but wasn't far from where she was.

Hurriedly, AJ asked a man the time, in which he replied, "Five minutes 'till five." AJ ran a hand through her hair anxiously as she quickly rushed to her gate.

"Excuse me Miss, but this is a private jet. You can't come beyond this point." A lady with a sickly sweet voice spoke to AJ.

"Yeah, I know I'm supposed to be on it!"

The lady let out a small laugh. "I can assure you someone like you wouldn't be on this flight."

"Excuse me?"

"Please, I don't want to have to call security."

Suddenly, coming back to realisation AJ remembered she had put the ticket in her pocket when she first got it.

"Wait!" She announced to the impatient-looking lady, as she fished the ticket out of her pocket. Unfolding it, she handed the ticket to the lady. "There."

"Well, what do you know?" The lady said as she looked over the ticket.

"Now can I please get on the plane?" AJ asked impatiently.

"I'm sorry, but this flight took off two minutes ago."

"What!?" AJ said, her eyes wide.

"Sorry." The lady said, faking a frown as she handed the ticket back to AJ.

Before AJ could make a remark, she turned on her heels and walked away.

At least John got his wish, she thought.
