A New Rival Apperats

(Normal POV)

It was the next day and the gang was outside in the back yard where Serena wanted to get some practice in before the showcase in two days. After the gang had breakfast May and Dawn was asked by Serena if they could give them tip for the freestyle performance since it is similar to the performance stage in a Pokémon Contest. They gladly agreed and the three girls and Serena's Pokémon were in the yard while Ash, Clemont, Bonnie, and Max are on the side watching on the side to give them support.

"Ok so since you have a fire type like Fennekin I suggest using her fire type moves to and combo it with your Pancham's Dark Pulse." May suggested. "That way if they collide it would make a dazzling explosion that will wow the crowd."

"It's that so....." Serena wondered.

"Yeah.... it is a common move coordinator use all the time in contest." Dawn said. "Since it's used more in contest and since they are not really well known in Kalos I don't think you will have to worry about other performers using the same technique."

"Ok I will give it a shot" Serena said. May and Dawn got out of the yard and joined the rest of the gang to give Serena some space. "Ok Fennekin, Pancham lets do this."

The two Pokémon nodded their heads and went to get into position. Fennekin stood on one side of Serena while Pancham stood on the other side both facing her.

"Ok now." Serena said. Both Fennekin and Pancham fire their respective attack, Fennekin using Flamethrower while Pancham used Dark Pulse, in the area above their trainer creating dazzling glimmers of dust as they circled around her. All the while, Serena started dancing in a movement that flows with the two attacks as both her Pokémon were still circling her.

"Wow she's doing great" May said.

"Looks like all that hard work up until now is paying off" Clemont said.

"Wow..... She looks so pretty" Bonnie said. Ash in the meantime was just staring at Serena, he was just in awe as he was captivated on how well Serena was doing. He knew Serena was working hard for a while now with a little help from Shauna back at the Pokémon camp and from Aubrey back at Shalour City. In short, he was amazed.

"You came a long way Serena." Ash thought. "Good job."

While Serena was continuing with her routine a certain dark hair male trainer was walking by when he noticed Serena preforming with her Pokémon.

"Wait...... It that....... Serena?" he thought. He was wearing a blue with a white stripe shirt which was very similar to what Ash was wearing, but as a long sleeve. He also had on a standard pair of blue jeans like any other trainer would were and a pair of brown boots. To top it all off he was wearing a hat that was completely red.

In a way, he was dressing very similar to Ash with only a small amount of differences.

"SERENA! IS THAT YOU?" he yelled.

"Huh......." Serena thought. She turned her head to the direction of the voice while she was still spinning in her performance. In that split second she turned her head she didn't notice that she was heading towards a rock on the ground and got one foot caught in it.

"Wha....... WHAAAAAAAA" she screamed as she lost her footing and was about to fall. She closed her eyes and braced herself as she was expecting to hit the ground any moment now, however, it never came. When she opened her eyes she saw that she was in Ash's arm and she was less than one foot away from the ground.

"Are you alright Serena?" Ash said. "When I saw you were about to lose your balance I came over as soon I could."

Serena blushed heavily as she was in Ash's arm looking directly into his eyes. Their faces where only a foot away from each other. Serena stared into his deep brown eyes as she was lost in thought in this position.

"Serena?" Ash said snapping Serena back into reality.

"Huh.... Oh..... Yeah..... I'm good, thank you." Serena said as Ash help her back to her feet.

"Serena are you ok? What happened?" May said as she and the others join them in the yard.

"It looked like you got distracted." Max said. "What was it?"

"Serena is that really you?!?!" the trainer said as he ran over to the group. "I saw what happened, I'm sorry if you fell because of me. I should have known you were busy focusing on what you were doing?"

Serena and the rest of the group look up at the trainer. Serena was shocked to see the other trainer while the rest of the group was wondering who he was.

"Calem?!?!" Serena said completely surprise. "What..... I mean...... hey but.... What are you doing here?"

"I'm on my journey, you know that" Calem said. "More importantly what are you doing here?"

"I was........ Practicing" Serena said.

"Serena, do you know who he is because it sounds like you two know each other." Clemont said. The two of them quickly changed their attention to the group as they realized they were completely ignoring them.

"Right sorry" Serena said. "Guys this is Calem, he is a trainer who started a month before me and we are both from Vaniville Town. Calem these are my friends I made on my journey. This is Clemont, Bonnie, May, Dawn, Max, and Ash. Out of the six I am traveling with Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie."

"Hey, how you doing? It's nice to meet you" Ash said extending his hand for a handshake. Calem just stared at Ash not even noticing the gesture. He doesn't know why, but Calem was having a funny feeling about Ash. They just met and yet Calem was a little uneasy about Ash. "Uh...... hello?"

"Wha......" Calem said snapping his thoughts back into reality noticing the handshake. "Oh..... Uh..... Yeah.... you too." Calem then shook Ash's hand as he was still a bit uneasy being near him. "Sorry I was.... Spacing out."

"It's fine." Ash said. "So.... Calem was it. Serena said you were a trainer. Are you here to challenge the gym so you can enter the Kalos League?"

"Yeah why?" Calem said sounding completely blunt. "Does it matter?"

"Uh..... I was just asking" Ash said now being a little uneasy about Calem. "Reason I ask because I am also going around Kalos so I could challenge the gyms."

"Are you now?" Calem said. "Good for you I guess."

"Ok...........?" Ash said a bit uneasy. "Anyways... I know we just met and all but how about you and I have a battle right now. I would love to see how strong you are."

"Uh....... Thanks but no thanks" Calem said. "It's just....... I'm not in the mood for a battle right now."

"Oh......." Ash said trailing a bit. "It's fine, maybe later."

"So anyways..... I just came by to say hi to Serena, but I see she is busy so I will just be on my way." Calem said. "Good luck to your routine Serena, afterward want to catch up later?"

"Sure........ I guess" Serena said trailing a bit.

"Great see you later" Calem said. With that he talked off away from the group until he was out of the yard and into the streets of Coumarine City, not even acknowledging the rest of the group as he walked off.

"Um....... Ok? What the heck is up with him?" Dawn asked. "He just ignored the rest of us, barely said anything to Ash, and only was interested in Serena."

"No offense to your friend Serena, but he could have acted a little more friendly towards us." Bonnie said.

"Well....... The thing is, I don't know. I have never known Calem to act like that, even back in our home town" Serena said.

"Really?" Clemont said. "I wonder what changed?"

"I don't know how to explain it, but something about him always felt a little........ Off for some reason."

As the rest of the group were conversanting among themselves, Calem was walking down the street with a lot on his mind. After all this time he had found Serena for the first time since leaving on his journey. Now that he has, he needs to find the perfect time to get alone with her so he could have the private talk he wanted to have.

"All I have to do is get a moment alone with Serena before I ask her, however.........." Calem said as his thoughts shifted to a certain raven hair trainer. "I feel that as though that Ash guy is going to be a problem."

It has been two hours since the group has met Calem for the first time and the gang has split into two groups. They had lunch about an hour ago and decided to do some more training secretly. The guys are currently helping Max train with his Pokémon training at the training grounds outside while the girls are in the lobby currently giving throwing out ideas that's each of them could use for the freestyle performance and the appeal stage respectively. At the moment, Dawn was sharing some ideas from her previous experiences.

"So I used my Quilava's Flame Wheel and mixed it with my Mamoswine's Ice Shard it created what looks like an ice chandelier, I called it flame ice." Dawn said.

"Really..... That's sounds amazing." Serena said. "I would love to see it sometime."

"I can show you later, so if you ever do get an ice-type Pokémon or teach an ice type move to one of your Pokémon you can do it with ease with your Fennekin." Dawn said.

"Good to know, thank you." Serena said. "Hopefully I can get some more practice in later today before the showcase in two days."

"I think you will be fine, so long as no other guy interrupts mid practice." May said. "Speaking of which, what is your deal with that Calem guy. He doesn't seems like the..... Friendly type of guy."

"Well........." Serena trailed. "The thing is....... Calem as a thing for me."

"WHAT?!?!" The girls yelled. "Are you for real?!?!"

"Yeah........ That just makes things even more complicated." Serena said.

"I mean yeah, things are going to be complicated with him liking you, you liking Ash, and Calem and Ash having tension between them." May said.

"Are you absolutely sure he like you. Like 100% certain he like you." Dawn said.

"Yes.... He told me himself before he left." Serena said.

(FLASH BASH)

It was a month before Serena and she is currently at her house in her home town in Vaniville Town. She would leave for her journey to become a trainer by her mom's request so she would have more experience with Pokémon and hopefully help her with her Rhyhorn training. Serena accepted to travel around not because she wanted experience with Rhyhorn racing but she also wanted an excuse to get out of the house, mostly not wanted to be woken up by fletching anymore.

Serena is currently in the front yard feeling her mother's Rhyhorn when a certain teenage boy was about to leave on his journey.

"Hey Serena." he said. Serena looked up and saw on other than Calem on the outside fence of her front yard waving to her.

"Oh, hey Calem." Serena said as she walked up to him. She noticed that he was wearing some hiking boots, some travel cloths, and a travel backpack. That is when Serena came to the realization on what he was preparing for. "Oh..... Is today the day you are leaving to go on your journey?"

"Yep, I was about to head out" Calem said. "I actually stopped by first because there is something I wanted to tell you before I leave."

"Really......?" Serena wondered. "Ok sure, what is it?"

"Actually, can we talk somewhere private?" Calem asked. Serena was a bit skeptical on his request. Sure they knew each other for a long time now and Serena knew Calem was not a bad person but still..... What could be so important that they needed to talk somewhere private?

"Uh.... Is that really necessary?" Serena asked.

"Yes, you will understand when I tell you" Calem said. Even though Serena as still skeptical she doesn't think anything bad will happen. She nodded in agreement and followed Calem to the route that lead to the end of town.

Calem sat on a bench that was located in between the edge of town and route one. He motioned Serena to a take a seat on the bench next to him. Serena saw no harm and took a seat next to him and then looked around at where they were at. There was not many people around and the few that where then didn't even acknowledge that they were there as they were busy with their own business.

"So Calem, what is it you need to talk about?" Serena asked.

"Well..... To be honest I don't know how to put it." Calem said. "It is just something I know I needed to talk to you about before I leave later today to go on my journey, otherwise I might be too late to tell you."

"Tell me what? And why does it need to be in private?" Serena asked.

"It's a bit personal." Calem said. "Anyways, we known each other for a while now ever since we were kids."

"Right" Serena said.

"And over the years I have been thinking about something and I wanted to tell you for a long time but I haven't worked up the nerve to tell you until now." Calem said.

"Calem........?" Serena wondered. "What are you trying to say?

"Here is goes" he thought as he took a deep breath. "Serena I....... I like you, ever since we were kids. So......... will you go out with me?"

Serena sat there stocked trying to process what he just said.. Did he really just make a love confession to her? All the time they known each other Serena never expected Calem to have any romantic feelings about her. Sure Serena thought he was a good looking guy but never really thought of him in that way. To her, Calem was just a friend she saw from time to time growing up.

"You........ Wait what?!?!" Serena said stocked.

"I said I like you Serena" Calem said calmly breathing a sigh of relief. "Like I said, I have like you since we were kids. I wanted to let you know before I left for my journey. Now that I told you I wanted to know when I come back if you want to go out with me."

Serena just sat there trying to come up with a response on what to say. She didn't want to hurt his feeling but at the same time she wanted to be honest with him and to let her know that she was not interested.

On top of that, she felt something is up with Calem. She doesn't know what but she has a bad feeling about him.

"Calem I........ I don't know what you say." Serena said. "It is all so sudden. Not only that but you are about to leave for your journey. Why now?"

"I wanted to get that off my chest." Calem said. "I know it is sudden and I am sorry for that but like I said I needed to tell you now before it was too late."

"I guess but..... I don't know what to say." Serena said. Calem took a deep breath as he was expecting something like this. He stood up from the bench and faced his whole body towards her.

"I know it's a lot to take in and I thought you would say that." Calem said. "But how about this, you leave in a month before you start your journey right?"

"Yes..... Why?"

"Why don't you think about what I said and get your thoughts together" Calem said. "I don't need an answer right now. Take your time and thing about what I said. If we ever meet up after you start your journey you can give me your answer then. How does that sound?"

"I...... guess......." Serena trailed

"Great, until then take care of yourself" Calem said. With that he turned the opposite direction and left Serena on the bench where they just talked and headed out to the next town to start his journey. Once he was out of site Serena stood up from the bench and she trailed to say the words she knew Calem didn't want to hear.

"Calem I..... I'm sorry" she said.

(END OF FLASHBACK)

"And that's what happened" Serena said finishing her story.

"Wow, he just confess just like that. Sounds like something from a romance book." May said.

"How are you going to tell him? To me it sounds like he will be wanting an answer when he see's you." Dawn said. "Do you know what you are going to say?"

"Yeah, but I don't think he will like it" Serena said. "I don't know how I am going to tell him, but I know it will happen sooner or later."

"Sooner than you think." They heard from the corner. The girls turned their head to see Calem walking out from the corner he was standing behind. "So.... You have something you want to tell me."

"CALEM.... Wha..... What are you doing here? How long where you there?" Serena said.

"From pretty much the beginning of your story." Calem said in a rude tone. "I was just walking by when I saw you girls talking, I was going to say something but I didn't want to interrupt."

"You didn't want to...... Wait...... Do you eavesdropped on us" May said angrily.

"Noooooo" he said sarcastically to make the others know he was lying. "I just waited for you girls to finish."

"What's with the attitude, I thought you were better than that." Dawn said.

"What do you mean........." he said in the same tone. "Your judging me when you barely even know me. how rude."

"You know now you are just being mean." Bonnie said.

"You can think whatever you like, doesn't bother me. Like I said, I didn't want to interrupt. It's not my fault that you were talking loud enough for others to hear in on what you were saying." Calem said. "Anyways Serena, I figured by now you have an answer on what I told you before I left Vaniville Town."

At that moment, Serena understood the kind of person Calem was. All this time she thought that he was a little different from other guys, but now she knows he is just a jerk. She stood up from the table and walked right up to Calem and looked him straight in the eyes with an angry look.

"Yeah Calem, I do actually." Serena said in an aggressive tone. "All this time I thought there was something about you that was a little off. At first, I just thought it was just because you were a bit different from the other guys in Vaniville Town, but now I know what you really are."

"What are you saying?" Calem said with a mix of being somewhat shocked and mildly nonchalant.

"For your answer, sorry but I don't feel the same way and I won't go out with you. I didn't know it then but I know it now. You are obsessed with me and quite frankly it's creepy. No wonder you don't get along with the other guys, you see them as competition. You're not my friend you're a jerk." Serena said breathing heavily as let it all out.

"Meeeee a jerk." Calem said sarcastically. "That hurts, how could you say something like that."

"You know exactly why Calem." Serena said. "You don't care about other people, only yourself. Just today you were acting distant from Ash when you first saw him when he was just trying to be friendly. That right there just proves my point."

"Ash......... What does he have to do with this?" Calem said. Serena then realized what she just said as she tried to think of an excuse to not get him suspicious.

"Uh.... He was just the first example that popped in my head." Serena said worried. But it was too late, Calem already but two and two together as he figured out why she mentioned Ash.

"I get it now." Calem said coming to a realization. "It's Ash isn't it?"

"Wha..... What are you saying?" Serena said. Calem didn't answer as he walked away from the group as he headed towards to doors the lead outside. "Where are you going?"

"To prove a point." Calem said. "I'm going to show you what a real trainer can do." With that Calem walked out of the lobby and was heading towards the yard Ash was at.

"You don't think Calem will do anything bad to Ash, will he?" Dawn asked.

"I hope not, he is many things but violent is not one of them." Serena said.

"Even so, we need to find him before it is too late." May said. With that the four girls left the lobby and soon started to tail Calem.

"I hope Ash will be ok." Bonnie said.

"Me too Bonnie........ Me too."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the back yard of the Pokémon Center Ash and Clemont was helping Max train his Treecko on his agility and reflexes. Ash's Hawlucha volunteered to be Treecko's sparring partner as well as an instructor.

"Alright Treecko are you ready to go again" Max asked. Treecko nodded his head as he got into a battle stance.

"You heard him Hawlucha, Karate Chop" Ash said. Hawlucha went at Treecko with his arms swinging as he attempting to strike Treecko. Treecko as showed much improvement as he was dodging each strike much easily then earlier as he was either blocking or dodging each attack. This went on for about three minutes until Treecko was getting a little tired as he suddenly tripped and landed on his butt. Hawlucha was about to strike Treecko in the face but stopped himself inches from making contact. This showed that Treecko still have some work to do but was improving.

"I think Treecko needs a break, but I can tell he is getting better. A little more training and he will be ready for a real battle in no time." Ash said.

"Thanks Ash." Max said as he went to return Treecko to his Pokéball. "And thank you Treecko for your hard work."

The group was about to take a break until a certain Kalos native trainer walked in the yard and called out a certain Kanto native trainer.

"Yo Ash" Calem yelled walking up behind him getting the attention of Ash and the rest of the guys. "You still up for that battle?"

"Calem...?" Ash said in wonder. "Now you want to battle?"

"That's right, I had a change of heart." Calem said sounding serious. "So... you ready to battle right here right now."

"Now? Uh.... sure, I'm always up for a battle." Ash said. "But if you don't mind my asking, what changed your mind?"

"Let's just say there is something I need to prove to myself." Calem said. "Also, to prove to Serena that I am worthy for her."

"Fair enough, does a one on one battle sound good to you?" Ash said.

"Works for me let's do this." Calem said as he and Ash got into place on the battle field in the yard. As they were doing that Serena and the other girls arrived and spotted Calem getting ready to battle. She quickly turned to Clemont to get an understanding on what is happening.

"Clemont what's going on?" she asked.

"Calem just challenged Ash to a battle." Clemont said. "For some reason he seems different than before and is really determined to battle Ash all of a sudden."

"What makes you say that?" Dawn asked.

"He said that he needed to prove something to himself. I don't know what he met by that but he seems like a completely different person than before." Clemont said. Little did the guys know Serena and the rest of the girls already knew what Calem met by that.

"So Calem just wants a battle, at least he's not going to hurt Ash" Dawn whispered to Serena.

"True, however, since we know his motives we can't relax just yet." Serena whispered back. "He might try to pull something after the battle depending on the outcome. That is what I am worried about."

"Don't worry we will keep an eye out" May whispered back. At that time both Ash and Calem has gotten into position as Clemont stepped forward to act as the referee.

"This will be a one on one battle between Ash and Calem. Each trainer can only use one Pokémon for this battle. The battle is over when the Pokémon on one side is unable to battle. There is no time limit. Trainers choose your Pokémon."

"Quilladin its time to battle" Calem said as he released his Pokémon.

"Quill...." It yelled. The Pokémon was about two feet tall, mostly green all over with an outer shell with quills poking out of his body."

"That's a new one" Ash said as he got out his Pokédex to scan him.

Quilladin, the Spiny Armor Pokémon and the evolved form of Chespin. The hard shell covering Quilladin's body is so tough, a direct hit from a large truck wouldn't even dent it. Quilladin uses this shell to deflect foes' attacks, and it strikes back with its sharp quills.

"Hm...... So it's a grass type. Since I just battled the grass gym I shouldn't have too much trouble. Frogadier I choose you." Ash said as he released his Frogadier getting into a battle stance. At his time Fennekin came out of Serena's Pokéball on hearing Frogadier's name and wanted to watch.

"Huh... she's doing it again. I wonder why?" Serena thought.

"A Frogadier.....? Seriously?!?!" Calem laughed. "You knew what Pokémon I had and l chose with a type disadvantage. What's wrong with you, do you not have any better Pokémon for this match up?!?!" Calem than started laughing hysterically like he just heard the funniest joke ever.

"What's his deal?" Ash thought. Sure he knew Frogadier had a type disadvantage but that is no reason for Calem to be acting the way as he is. "It may have a type disadvantage but I was able to bet Ramos and his Gogoat with Frogadier so I am very confident in his abilities."

"It's that so...." Calem said in wonder. "I don't know how you pulled that off but regardless it is going to be satisfying when I crush the Pokémon that was able to bet Ramos's Gogoat. This is going to be sweet when I win."

At that point Ash started seeing what Calem was really like. At first he thought he was a good, but distant, person. But now, after hearing that and how he is acting he now knew that he is just an arrogant trainer. Ash has come across these types of trainers before and he knew what we has to do.

"So... he is that kind of trainer." Ash thought with a sigh. "I guess there is only one thing I need to do. Win."

"Ok battle begin" Clemont said.

"Let's start out strong, Quilladin use Needle Arm." Calem said. Quilladin started to run towards Frogadier. For a bulky looking Pokémon he was moving pretty fast, however, not fast enough.

"Frogadier side step. And use Cut." Ash said. Frogadier at the last second pivot to its right and narrowly avoid getting hit. At that moment Frogadier and Quilladin make eye contact as Frogadier slashed across Quilladin's body with his white knife and sent him back a couple of feet.

"Grrr.... I forgot. Frogadier are known to be fast Pokémon." Calem said to himself. "I guess I will have to restrain him, use Vine Whip."

Quilladin quickly regain his balance and shot vines from the quills on his body and quickly grabbed onto Frogadier before he could react.

"Frogadier!!!" Ash yelled.

"Now I got you, slam him to the ground." Calem said. Quilladin jumped into the air and swung Frogadier up with his vines and immediately threw him down and slammed him into the ground.

"Ouch....." May said from the side. "That got to hurt."

"Frogadier can you continue?" Ash asked. Frogadier nodded as he slowly was bringing himself off the ground.

"Hmm... your Frogadier is quit resilient, but I won't give him a chance to recover, use Leech Seed." Calem said. Quilladin shot out glowing seeds from his quills and was heading straight towards Frogadier.

"Avoid it with Double Team." Ash said. Frogadier quickly made a dozen copies of himself right before the leech seed made contact. The seeds open out and immediately sprouted vines and covered Frogadier, however when it did it is quickly evident that the attack hit one of the copies and disappeared along with the vines.

"Grrr..... I see you have all kinds of tricks but that is not help you. Use Vine Wipe on all of them." Calem said. Quilladin shot out his vines and swung them around to hit all the copies of Frogadier one by one. However, once he was done hitting all of the copies the real Frogadier was nowhere to be found.

"Quill?...."Quilladin said sounding confused.

"What the..... Where the heck is he?" Calem said irritated.

"Why don't you look behind you, use Arial Ace" Ash said. Frogadier suddenly appeared out of thin air right behind Quilladin. Before Quilladin could react he was hit right on his side and was sent flying across the battle field and landed on his back.

"Quilladin!!!" Calem yelled.

"Looks like Ash is up to his old tricks again." Clemont said.

"What do you mean?" Dawn asked.

"Ash and Frogadier did that combo before by double team to dodge and then strike when they are distracted with the copies." Clemont explained. "Those two are quite the team."

That comment really made Calem mad. Not only is Calem getting beat but it is with a Pokémon he should have advantage over. He will not let Ash or his Frogadier get the better of him, he said that he was going to show Serena how strong he is and that is what he is going to do.

"No more mister nice guy, Quilladin it time get serious." Calem said as Quilladin got onto his feet. "Show them your power, use Wood Hammer."

Quilladin's arm glowed a bright green as he sprinted towards Frogadier getting ready to swing. Ash knew the power of wood hammer and was cautious to stay away from the attack as it could do major damage.

"Frogadier whatever you do don't let it hit you." Ash said. Frogadier nodded as he took a quick step back to avoid the first attack. Quilladin, however, was not letting up as he swung his arm again in attempts to make contact.

"This went on for a couple of minutes and its clear to see that both Frogadier and Quilladin are getting tired from either striking or dodging. Calem was too caught up hoping on Quilladin acting like a maniac trying to land a hit that he didn't notice the fatigue. Ash, however, saw that this was going nowhere and he needed to end this.

"Use your frubbles and immobilize him" Ash yelled. As Frogadier dodged another attack from wood hammer he pick off a piece of the frubbles around his neck and stuck it right on both of his shoulders. Quilladin was so caught up in trying to strike Frogadier that he didn't noticed the frubbles on his shoulders and when he tried to strike again is arms were having trouble moving due to the stickiness of the frubbles.

"What the..... Get that off of you." Calem yelled.

"Ooo....... Bad idea." Ash thought as he smirked. Quilladin reached to get the frubbles off of his shoulders, however when his hands made contact with the frubbles his hands where completely stuck. Not only that but due to his fatigue he was unable to break loose and was completely unable to use his arms.

"NO QUILLADIN!!!" Calem yelled. Quilladin tried and tried to break free of the frubbles but the more he tried the more tired he got and it made thinks even worse for him. Shortly after Quilladin stopped his struggling and laid on his back from exhaustion.

"Hmm...... Calem it is clear that Quilladin won't be able to get out anytime soon. No need for Quilladin to continue this struggling. Can we just call the match so you can help Quilladin?"

"What?!?! Do you think I am just going let you have this battle?!?!" Calem yelled.

"Calem, your Quilladin is exhausted and is laying on his. Are you really going to let your......."

"I DON'T CARE" Calem yelled. "I challenged you to prove a point and that is what I am going to do. I am not going to end this battle until I finish it."

"You're just going to let him continue to struggle?" Ash said in a shocked voice.

"THAT'S RIGHT!!!" Calem yelled. "Like I said. This battle is not over until I finish it."

"Or if I do" Ash said with a sigh as he looked over at Quilladin. "I'm sorry I has come to this Quilladin but I will try to make this quick. Frogadier use Water Pulse to end this."

Frogadier nodded as he knew that any attack at this point will finish him off so might as well using a non-affective move against him. With a simple water attack he threw it straight at Quilladin.

"Quilladin don't just lay there, move out of the way!" Calem yelled. But Quilladin was no existed to move. With all the attacks and struggling there is no way for him to have any more energy to move. When the water pulse made contact it was clear that Quilladin was knocked out as was laying on his back unconscious.

"Quilladin is unable to battle. The winner is Frogadier so the victor is Ash." Clemont said.

"Oh..... thank goodness." Serena thought with a sigh. "No telling what could have happened if Calem won that."

"Good job Frogadier, take a rest and thanks for the battle." Ash said as he returned Frogadier to his Pokéball.

To be honest he felt back for Calem's Quilladin as he could no longer battle but was force to anyways He then then look over a Quilladin as he was still unconscious he wanted to say something, but before he could Calem returned him to his Pokéball not saying a word.

"Why did you do it?" Ash said in a serious tone.

"WHAT....." Calem said in a cold tone.

"You know what." Ash said in the same tone as before. "Why did you not stop the match when you knew Quilladin could no longer battle? There was no reason to force him to continue when it was clear that you lost. He didn't need to suffer."

"Maybe he need to." Calem said.

"WHAT?!?!"

"You heard me, perhaps he need this. My Quilladin, a grass type, was up against your Frogadier, a water type. He should have had no problem taking out your little frog and yet he lost. Maybe this way he will learn what a defeat like this is like so I won't happen again."

"There is more to a battle then type advantages and you know it." Ash said. "What you did was just irresponsible and heartless."

"Whatever" Calem said brushing off what Ash said like it didn't mean anything. "You may have beaten me today, but the next time we meet I will make you regret making be look like a fool."

"You don't need my help to make you look like a fool." Ash shot back. "Before I thought you were just arrogant but now I see you are even worse."

"Sticks and stones Ash, like I care what you think. You better be ready when we meet again because I will crush you." Calem said as he turned around to leave but before he did he faced Serena. "And Serena, I will eventually prove I am the better guy than Ash, you'll see."

With that Calem walked away no looking back once not even caring to stop by the Pokémon center to heal his Quilladin. He just walked out of the yard and into the streets of Coumarine City, the group just stared as he walked away until he was out of site.

"Good bye and good riddance." Serena said to herself.

"Wow....... He really is a jerk, I'm glad he's gone" May said.

"And I thought Paul was bad when I first met him" Dawn said. "Can't believe that there someone worse than what Paul used to be."

"You said it" Ash said. He then turned to Serena with a concerned look. "How are you holding up Serena, I knew he was your friend so it might be a little hard to see him like that."

"Oh... we are not friends so you don't have to worry about that." Serena said. "Just know I will not give him another thought so there is no need to worry about me. But still thanks you for asking."

"No problem" Ash said. "By the way, can I ask you something?"

"Sure what is it?" Serena said.

"Before he left he said something about being the better guy than me, what did he mean by that?"

Serena's face went red when Ash asked her that, she didn't want to explain what Calem met by that or why he wanted to battle Ash in the first place so she decided to play it off.

"Oh...umm......... not quite sure." Serena said. "But just know Ash, no matter what Calem said I will always think you are the better guy."

"Oh..... uh.... Thanks" Ash said turning a little red.

Wait.... Did I just say that?!?!" Serena thought as she blushed even harder.

*Sigh* "There they go again" Bonnie whispered.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the other side of the city Calem kept walking without stopping once ever since he left yard he battled Ash in.

"That little know it all, he thinks he is go great" he mumbled as he kept walking. "Just wait Ash I will show you what a real trainer can do and I will make Serena mine."

As he kept walking down a street an evil thought came to his head as he grinned evilly about it.

"And I think I know the best way to do it." he then pulled out his Halo caster from his pocket. "Time for me to call an old friend."

Well there you go, originally this chapter and last was going to be one long chapter but I was getting too long so I decided to cut it into two.

If you remembered from the anime the episode after Ash won his fourth gym badge from X & Y then you can guess what the next chapter is going to be and I am excited to write it.

Until then like, comment, review and what have you.
