Chapter 4

"Five... Five hundred and nine thousands?" she hissed, still heavily hung on his arm, her knees didn't want to cooperate with her brain, obviously too shock with the amount of digits that printed on the sign. He stared down at her, oblivious by her fingers gripping his suit until her knuckles turned white.

"Don't worry about the price. Let's have a look." James circled his arm around her waist and lifted her up a bit before dragging her closer to the car. He opened the door and signalled Diana to get in and she did. He then walked around and sat on the passenger seat.

"Do you like it?" he asked slightly smiling.

"Yes... it's nice." Diana gapped, still traumatised with the price, her eyes scanned the dashboard. Her hand touched the leather seat and the steering wheel tentatively, too scared that she would leave some marks there.

James explained some of the buttons and their functions and how to adjust the seat, he looked familiar with the settings already, Diana looked at him suspiciously. "How do you know this thing? Don't tell me you have one!"

"My friend had one, an older model." He lied. The older model was his car back in London. One of his two dozen other cars that parked neatly inside his humongous underground garage.

"Do you want to test drive?"

"No, I'll be okay." Diana refused immediately. She was terrified of the possibility that she would crash or scratch it. So she'd rather not do any test drives. Definitely not this brand!

"Okay then, let's pick the colour." He stepped out of the car, again he walked around and opened her door then helped her getting off the low seat.

Diana stared at him with defeated face, "you know, I can get off the car myself."

"Miss Ana, it's not about you can or can't. I am just showing you how a man should treat a woman, especially you. Princess Wellesley, you deserve only gentlemen." He answered then he raised his hand slightly to tell her to walk in front of him. "Now let's see Ben."

She blushed. She had to admit that the way James moved around her made her feel that she was the only person he cared about. No matter how sarcastic he was, but she felt safe with him and she felt that she was on the top priority of his life. She liked it!

James then pulled a chair in front of Ben's desk for her and after she sat, he took the next chair.

"Do you have the colour choice Ben?" again his voice sounded demanding, like a boss that barked orders.

"Sure sir, I'll get the book. Excuse me for a moment." He walked away from his desk to the other office to retrieve the brochure.

"James... " Diana called out weakly.

"Yes Miss Ana?"

"Ugh... maybe I changed my mind... " she whispered.

"Why?"

"It's so expensive... "

"Don't be silly. It's exactly the amount that your dad transferred to me this morning. "

"Really?"

"Yes. Really." He lied. Edward only transferred five hundred thousands into his account and instructed him to ask for more if it wasn't enough, but James planned not to bother him. He could spend a hundred thousand overnight in a party, spending ten thousands for a car that he would mostly drive would be appropriate.

"Okay, here's the colour choice, choose one." He lifted the brochure.

"I like silver." Diana answered without even looking at the booklet.

"Are you sure? I think you are more suitable with red."

"Why?"

He leaned closer to her and whispered in her ear. "Because you are a spitfire."

"Shut up!" she glared at him.

"Okay, silver then." He shrugged. "Silver it is Ben." He talked to Ben.

"Very well Sir, now I'll get my colleague to talk to you about some accessories... "

"No, we won't need that. Just process the payment now please." James cut him off and pulled out his wallet from the inside pocket of his suit. "Here's my card. You can process the payment with that but please put Diana's name for the car."

Diana eyed his credit card, it was similar to what her dad had. A black card with unlimited money in it. She was stunned. How could a butler have that kind of card? Did her dad give it to him? Not that she was upset about it, but Edward hadn't given her anything yet. True that Edward paid the bills but for pocket money, she had to survive from her own salary.

"Sure, sir. Won't take long." Ben again disappeared into the other office.

"Why are you so mean?" Diana elbowed his arm.

"What?" James stared at her in confusion.

"At least let him finish talking. You don't cut people off like that."

"Why not? I don't like time wasters."

"He is not a time waster. He just tried to give us accessories."

James turned his head and raised his eyebrows, "Do you know what accessories that he tried to offer us?"

"No... What is it?"

"A few thousands dollar for coloured leather seats. A few more thousands for a night-view vision, another thousand for paint protection, I can go on and on about this."

"Alright alright. Sorry I asked." Diana cringed.

"I can get you all of those offers but you were clearly uncomfortable with five hundred thousand already... " he trailed off when Ben came back with paperwork that James had to fill in.

He scanned the form through and gave it to Diana, "Miss Ana, sign here please." he ordered.

Diana followed and flicked through the next page but James took it from her hand. "Nothing important on the second page" he stopped her. He was just worried that Diana would see his name on the payment section.

Ten minutes later they walked out the showroom and in the next few days the car would be delivered at her door, as simple as that.

"So...... what car did you get?" Maya clapped her hands as soon as Diana sat on her chair.

She simply gave her the brochure.

"Nice! You need to take me out soon girlfriend. How much?"

"509." She replied, suddenly feeling tired. That number stuck in her head like super glue. James didn't even try to ask for discount or anything. He just pulled out his magic card and paid it.

"That's more expensive than my tinny one bedroom apartment." Maya sighed in envy, her hand still flicking the brochures back and forth as if she wanted to find out how this piece of metal could be more expensive than her place that she just bought three months ago and already struggled with the monthly payment.

"I know right? I wanted to say no. I feel so bad about this."

Maya turned her chair around and stared astonishingly at her. "Are you serious?"

"What do you mean?"

She took her hands, "Stop that guilt! I am telling you this right now. Spending that much is nothing for your dad. I saw on TV last night, he worth about 40 billion dollar okay?"

"Forty? Billions... BILLIONS?!?!" Diana couldn't even remember how many zeroes in a billion. Her brown eyes rounded and her jaws dropped.

"Yes. Forty billions! He probably has more than that. Ask him! "

"Um... " Diana started to tremble.

Chuckling Maya made some faces at her, "Oh my god, guess what? you will inherit that billions."

"No... "

"Yes!"

"No... "

Maya laughed while Diana stared at her in disbelief. "Forty billions..... " she kept mumbling the words before it finally sank in and made her hand trembled even harder.

"Dude, come on. This is good news. Don't look stunned like..... Diana... oh my god! Diana! Wake up!"

"Are you alright Miss Ana?" James took a glance at her from the driver's seat. Soon after Diana passed out, Maya called her butler to pick her up.

"Yes... yes... I don't know why they sent me home. I am just tired." She lied, too embarrassed to tell him the real reason why she fainted.

"You're not just tired. You look whiter than your shirt. I will call a doctor as soon as we're home."

"No, I'll be fine."

James touched her cheek with the back of his hand before telling her to close her eyes and try to relax. He was worried sick seeing Diana's pale face. This was new to him, he had never taken care of anyone before and to have someone under his responsibility made him nervous as hell, especially that someone was Diana.

He thought she was invisible. She was too energetic to his liking, too bubbly, too annoying, and definitely wouldn't faint for any reason, except if she had a medical condition?

Again he watched her from the corner of his eyes. She looked asleep. Her long brown hair covered half of her face that was no longer so pale. Her cheeks were slowly regaining their colours.

James sighed in relief. She looked okay, but he was still planning to call a doctor when they got home, he promised to himself.

He stopped the car right in front of the door and ran to the passenger's seat to catch her. He leaned forward to release the seat belt, then slided his left arm under her knees and his right hand holding her backside. A second later she was lifted and carried into the house.

"James... I can walk... " She blushed.

"I am responsible for you Miss Ana. Your dad will yell at me if anything happened to you." He said softly. Somehow he was truly worried about what had happened to his princess. She looked upset maybe more to confused. Her usual smile and twinkly eyes were not there.

"Nothing will happen to me, can you put me down please." She asked half-heartedly. Being in his arms comforted her and his gentleness that she had never seen before made her want to curl in his embrace a little longer.

"Sorry, can't do." James kept walking crossing the hall straight upstairs into her bedroom, followed by some maids' worried eyes.

"You know, when you're not mean, you're actually a nice person." She rested her head on his shoulder, her arms circling his neck.

"Miss Ana, I would never be mean to you."

"You think so?"

"I think so." He held his laughter at her cuteness. She was sure unpredictable. She exhibited her resistance toward him all the time but she was very sweet right now and almost made him turn his head and dropped a kiss on her cheek. He was slightly embarrassed of his attempt to make her cry. He wouldn't do it anymore, she wasn't that bad after all. Her body that was pressing against his chest and her breath that tickled his neck warmed his heart.

"Honey, what happened to you?" Nana chased them.

"Nothing Nana, I fainted a bit and this guy here is over reacting." She tapped James' shoulder.

"Fainted is not nothing. You've never fainted before. Are you sick?" Nana touched her forehead.

"No I am not sick."

"Are you sure?" Nana's hand was still stuck on her forehead.

"Nana, I am fine, just a little shock... " She finally admitted.

"Of what?" Nana asked.

"Of how rich my dad is."

James was about to place her on the bed when he heard her reason. His worried face turned red before he laughed like crazy and almost dropped her.

She quickly jumped off his arms. "James!" she protested.

"I am sorry... It's just... It was the silliest reason to faint." He cracked up.

Nana shook her head and walked out of her room. "You know Sweetie, I googled him long time ago, he is one of the richest man in the world."

James laughed even louder.

"James, shut up!" Diana went and sat on her bed. "Will you stop laughing?" She threw her pillow at him. "I don't think this is funny James. I think this is sad."

"Sad?" James looked at her with astonishment.

She stepped down the bed and started pacing. "Sure it's sad. How could someone have that amount of money by himself while the rest of the people have to suffer? This is not right." She sighed, sorrows lingered in her eyes. "Those hungry kids, struggling single mothers, homeless. All those people James!"

"Miss Ana... "

"Sad isn't it?" she sighed. "And I can't do anything about it." She looked up to challenge his eyes.

James was stunned by her argument. Sure he allocated some fund to go to some charity groups around the country but that was because the government obliged him to, not because he wanted to.

Never in his life had he thought about those problems. All he knew was how to spend his money and had fun with it. Diana's point of view sure opened his eyes.

He didn't expect Diana could be this thoughtful, this kind, this selfless. First time he met her he thought she was too childish, too ordinary, too dumb to think about anything. But after he heard what she just said, he was humbled by her.
