Chapter 3

James parked Diana's 1990 Toyota Corolla about two blocks away from her office and sighed heavily before getting off the old tin. It was truly embarrassing to drive such an old vehicle. Compared to his oldest car which was 2014 Audi R8, this Toyota could be called ancient. And he couldn't believe that this thing still existed and actually plenty of them roaming the road of Sydney, it should be illegal to begin with. Not only that it was in manual, its air conditioning wasn't cold enough to his liking and the accelerator was so heavy.

He was thankful that Edward told him to buy a new car for Diana, at least he could borrow it when she wasn't using it. And judging from the amount of money that he transferred this morning, he was confident he would get a nice-looking top-quality car like his own back in London.

Slowly he walked to the office, fixing his tie before shoving his hands in his tailored trousers. He looked up slightly checking the familiar logo of the company that clearly visible from any angles of the city. Huge intimidating letter W and S that entangled artistically around each other with the corporation word underneath it.

Edward Wellesley and his dad were best friends since they were little. They went to school together and worked together. Each of them had fortunes in their hands but they refused to just join the family business. They created their own, Wellesley and Stratford Corporation, a global company that got its powerful tentacles in almost any industries it could grasp and this office was only one of hundreds branches spread around the globe. This Sydney branch was monopolising the property development, just like the one he ran in London.

"Hot butler ten o'clock." Maya mumbled from her seat.

"Oh, what now?!" Diana took a peek from under her desk. She was so flat out today that she didn't have time to eat and she could finally sit under her desk to enjoy her salad. Her headset was still sitting around her head.

"Hi Maya, where's my princess?" James smiled sweetly at Maya and almost sent her off her chair. His usual charm had always worked, he knew it, and he would use it to the max to get what he wanted and right now he wanted to take Diana out.

"I am here. What do you want?" Diana raised her hand out from under the desk.

"Miss Ana, what are you doing there?"

"I am eating your fabulous salad." She answered sarcastically. "By the way where's the chicken?"

"I didn't put any chicken, you're a vegetarian today."

"Why?"

"Because you need to eat healthy." He replied evilly. Honestly, he just wanted to torture her, seeing her cry was probably the main purpose of all of this game that his dad tried to make him play, or at least made her surrender to him, but apparently she was one of the toughest chicks that he had ever encountered and she was too unpredictable to tame.

"Jerk. What do you want?"

"I need to take you somewhere. I've already prepared the bribe." He gave a bag of chocolate to Maya that she accepted happily. After checking the content she nodded in satisfaction. "Thank you sir, I'll cover for your princess for two hours."

Diana pushed a large chuck of salad into her mouth and chewed them hard, "Where?"

"Please don't talk with your mouth full." James frowned.

"I will talk when I want to talk." She gulped a glass of water to clear her mouth then took a smaller bite, apparently she listened to him. "Where do you want to take me?"

"Car shopping."

"What?!"

"Your dad told me to get you a new car."

"What's wrong with my car now?"

"It's old and ugly, even I am embarrassed driving it." He told her frankly.

"I bought that car when I was seventeen, with my own money when I worked in a take-away shop. Don't insult Mickey."

"You named your car?" he laughed.

"Yes, any problem with that?" She closed her salad box and threw it inside her lunch bag, apparently lost her appetite.

"No, no problem. But we can get a new car that is way sexier than Mickey so you can name it David Beckham."

Diana choked on her water and Maya clasped her mouth with her hands, trying hard to contain her laugh. "Go Dude, I want you to take me around in David Beckham." She commented.

"No, I am not going."

"Miss Ana... "

"I am not going!" Diana plopped herself on the chair giving him her stubborn face.

James gritted his teeth, he was tempted to just pick her up and shoved her into her old Mickey then drove her to the car dealer. But unfortunately he wasn't in his territory and he couldn't do whatever he wanted. He closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, he needed to change his approach.

"I tell you what. You go with me, I'll cook you grill chicken tonight."

Diana narrowed her eyes, "Do you think you can bribe me? With food? That's insulting."

"Everyone has her price, Miss Ana. Name yours."

"Not me!" Diana almost lurched toward him to bite his neck or anything that would hurt him.

"I will also let you have some fries." He walked around and shamelessly sat on her desk, and one of his feet propped on Diana's chair. He rested his arm on his thigh, closing the gap between them. Luckily it was a quiet time and no one entered the building or they would be in trouble.

"Ugh... " Diana arched backward. This guy clearly had no boundaries and he knew how to make a good use of that handsome face of his.

Maya cracked up and she lifted her bag of chocolate

"Ah..... and I'll give you one chocolate bar. How's that?" James smiled.

"Fine. Let's go!" Diana sighed. Not that she was over the moon with his bribe but somehow she wanted him to be nice to her or at least smile at her and when he did, she melted.

James watched her took her bag and went out of the building with amazement. How could she be so easy?

"Oh James... You can't handle Diana with force. Remember that." Maya waved at him.

"I can't believe you need encouragement to go buy a new car Miss Ana. Other girls will be too excited to say no."

"Because I don't see the need of me getting a new car. Mickey is perfectly fine."

"I know he is but you are a Wellesley, driving an old car is not an option."

"Describe to me what's so special about the Wellesley? Aren't they also human beings?"

"Miss Ana, let's just say your ancestors hung out with the kings. Wellesley is a very respectful family."

"I don't see the connection of being in a respectful family and the need to have a new car."

"Well, unfortunately our society judges everything with money." it got James thinking and he had to admit that Diana was right. "Plus you have to learn twice harder to fit in." He reminded her, somehow felt sorry for her.

Diana felt drained. The pressure of being a Wellesley started to eat her alive. Her dad took her to London a few months ago, mentoring her to be a Wellesley, to run the business and to socialise with the rich and famous society. Not that she hated it but she felt that it was all rushed into her. She only had a few months to adjust, while the rest of the people had their whole life to get used to.

When she was back here, Edward included a group of private tutors to teach her some weird lessons that she had no idea existed before, everything that she needed to know to be a Wellesley. From etiquettes, table manners, to international trading and the arts of negotiation.

She couldn't deny that she liked the change but the challenges that she had to deal with on daily basis exhausted her, the fact that it would stick with her for the rest of her life made her shivered.

"Fine... " She sighed in defeat.

"What car do you want?" James asked.

"I don't know. What do you want?"

James stopped walking, "What do I want?"

"Yes, what do you want? I think you will drive it more than I do."

"How so?"

"Because I rarely drive. And no way will I drive to work everyday. The parking is too expensive and the traffic jam... no way! I'd rather take the bus. Unless you want to drive me?" she was teasing him but he agreed to it.

"Yes Miss Ana, I will drive you to work. In fact I wanted to drive you to work this morning but you ran off. But you still need to tell me what kind of car you like"

"Well, you said something sexy... "

James chuckled. "Very well then. Let's go!"

Diana's mind was thinking more like a high-end Japanese car but James took her straight to a Mercedes Benz dealer. He confidently strolled in while his hand towed his princess behind him. Luxury places terrified her.

An overly friendly salesman approached them, "how can I help you two?" he asked with a big fake smile on his face.

"My boss here needs a car. Go on Miss Ana, pick one." James turned around to talk to her.

"Um... " she played with the hem of her shirt, feeling lost. This wasn't her way of buying a car.

Firstly she had to tighten up her belt, stop spending, and start saving. After a few months or maybe a year, she would count her saving, then she would go to a second-hand car dealer and walked around till she saw the price that matched her budget, if she got lucky, she might find the model that she dreamed of having. Then she would talk to the salesman and negotiate. That was how normal people bought a car. They wouldn't just randomly come to the luxury car dealers and pick up whatever they like.

"Which one do you like Miss Ana?" the salesman asked her and she quickly pouted. She was overly sensitive with that Ana thing. She immediately thought that the name had been reserved exclusively only for James to use. True she wasn't so fond of him but he came up with that name, he would get the exclusive use of it.

"Call me Diana please... Ben?" she read his name tag.

"Sure Miss Diana. Would you like this one?" Ben pointed out to a sedan.

"No, not that one." James shook his head disapprovingly, he looked rather offended. Diana stared at him open mouthed, never in her life she met someone as bossy and as controlling as he was. The way he talked, the way he moved, everything about him screamed authority, not less. She felt like he was actually her boss, not the other way around.

"Why?" Diana protested, she quite liked that one.

"Too plain. This one is more for older people." That was all his reply.

"How much this one anyway Ben?" curiously she asked.

"This one is seventy five thousand."

"I think it's okay... " Diana said, her annual salary wasn't even as much.

"Miss Ana, no! Not good enough for you. Look, that one is more suitable for you." He pointed out a four-wheel drive. "Manly... "

"I am not manly."

"You are when you walk like that... " he whispered in her ear that only she could hear. She quickly adjusted her steps after giving him a scornful look. A smirk appeared on his face.

Diana's shoulders slumped, she was terrified with the price tag of the cars here. "I don't want a Mercedes... " she mumbled. Ben cringed.

Oops....

James sighed rather loudly, "Ben, why don't you leave us alone for now. My boss needs a little more time to choose."

"Ah yes sure. Take your time. I will be on my desk when you need me." He pointed out the seating area and walked there, leaving those two alone.

"I meant I don't want to drive a Mercedes, it's too expensive and would scare me to death to drive it." Diana corrected her statement, she was slightly scared of how James face hardened when he talked to that salesman.

James shook his head, "Nonsense. What do you feel comfortable to drive then?"

Thank god he didn't yell at her.

"Um... something like that car maybe...v" she pointed out a passing-by cheap car on the street and James face turned into horror, he pushed her hand down and turned her shoulders so he could see her face.

"I will not let you drive that rubbish, it's not safe."

"Not safe? Do you think I am a bad driver?"

"No Miss Ana, I think that other people are bad drivers."

"Fine. But I don't know what I want."

"Okay, take this one then." He randomly pointed out another model.

"No." she replied.

"No? Why not?" He started to look impatient.

"I don't like it, the wheels look funny."

James raised his eyebrows, "Seriously? You are not saying that just to annoy me, are you?"

"Why would I do that?"

"What about that one?" James took few steps to his right and pointed out another one.

"No."

"What is it this time? Wheels are not funny enough?"

"No, that car is too big. Look at my size James, I won't be able to see the road."

"Miss Ana, the seat is adjustable. You can move it up and down."

"It does?" she looked at him in shock. Her old Corolla didn't do that.

"Yes." James held himself for not calling her stupid.

"No thanks. Okay fine! I want that one." She gave up and pointed out at a convertible, if James wanted a sexy car, that would be the one.

"AMG SL 65. Perfect choice Miss Ana." This time James looked happy. Diana sighed in relief. Now he would leave her alone.

"How much?" She asked. Then she saw a small sign board that was placed next to the car, she had a quick read and grabbed James' arm before she fell to the floor.
