Chapter 16

Raining, no thunderstorm.....

James was thankful that he got home before it had started, he ran upstairs to check on Diana, he thought that Diana went straight home after leaving him in the party but she wasn't in her bed when he got there.

It was one in the morning and everyone had gone to bed already so he checked the kitchen, living room, dining room, even the gym and the swimming pool just in case she sat there in the dark sulking.

He couldn't believe that he kissed her after all. His intention to reveal himself had failed miserably. It wasn't because he wasn't thorough with his plan, it was because she was too unpredictable.

He sat quietly on his bed waiting. He was out of his Spiderman costume once she left and already deposited the costume safely into a hidden compartment just under his wardrobe together with his passport and other things that were related to Nicholas' identity. The two things that he carried and guarded with his life were his driver's licence and his bank card. He knew that Diana liked to snoop around, he had to be extra careful with this or she would tear him limb to limb when she found out.

Sighing heavily he reached his phone and dialled her number to find out where she was. He suspected that she must be at Patrick's place, sulking. The thought upset him.

Diana!

He punched his pillow. How could she be that messy? She was clearly a cheater. She had a boyfriend and she still kissed another man and after that she went to her boyfriend's place to kiss him. What the hell! He grunted.

Her phone was off.

Maybe she switched it off or maybe the thunderstorm disturbed the signal. He cringed when the sky roared once more.

James slammed himself on the bed and cursed.

One girl!

Just one girl that he couldn't handle. Just one girl had tormented him and drove him mad on a daily basis. And that girl kissed him like he had never been kissed before...

He closed his eyes, retrieving the memory of that moment when their lips met. Only god knew what was happening inside his mind at that time. As if his bitter past with Natalie had been swept clean and Diana had healed all his wounds with only one kiss.

He thought he loved her from weeks ago but tonight was different, tonight was reassurance, tonight was the time he finally admitted that he wouldn't be able to live without her anymore. He was helplessly, crazily in love with her and he didn't mind sharing her with another man.

Pathetic...

He looked at his desk clock, an hour had passed. He was sure that Diana finally spent the night at Patrick's place but since she didn't send any text to him telling him her whereabouts was worrying him.

Again, he tried to call her phone and again it went straight to her voice mail.

Sighing in defeat he dialled Patrick number.

James didn't want to talk to Patrick right now but he was his only hope. His hesitation turned into anger when Patrick replied and said that he had lost Diana in the hospital.

James cursed repeatedly while putting on his uniform then his black trench coat. He didn't want to risk himself of getting sick from the cold wet weather outside especially when he had to find and take care of Diana. God knew what happened to her. Seconds later he was in his car driving toward the hospital.

Who would lose someone in the hospital? Was Patrick an idiot? James shook his head angrily.

Patrick had explained that Diana went there after a phone call from Lisa about Leyla's incident with drug. And since then she was nowhere to be seen.

Impatiently James drove the car along the main street, the hard rain didn't slow him down, not a bit, and when he got to the destination he went straight to the main lobby and saw Patrick and Lisa sitting on the waiting chairs.

"James... " Patrick was about to talk to him when James pulled his collar. His breathing was frantic and his face hardened, staring at Patrick angrily he exclaimed loudly, "WHERE IS SHE?"

This particular man had been driving him nuts for weeks and he wasn't even capable of watching one girl. His princess, how could Patrick lost his precious princess was beyond belief.

"I was at home when I got the call from Lisa and when I came here she was already gone." Came his stuttered reply. He didn't know James could be this fierce. Patrick always thought that James didn't like him but just a split second ago he thought James wanted to kill him. Patrick knew James wouldn't hesitate to hurt him if something happened to Diana.

James froze. Diana wasn't with Patrick after all? Where did she go after leaving Nicholas in the party?

Slowly he let go of Patrick's collars, looked around with his confused and worried eyes and he saw Lisa sat quietly on the waiting chair. "What's going on? Is Diana okay?" he bent his knees down to look at her sad face.

"She was fine. Leyla didn't....."That was all her reply before burrowing her face in her palms and sobbed.

"What's happening?"

"Leyla is dead, from drug overdose." Patrick joined them.

James rose from the floor and sat himself on the chair next to Lisa and gently expressed his condolence to her. He knew how close she was to Leyla and she must be devastated by her death. He was too. Leyla was always nice to him and always talked and joked around with him whenever he came to visit her with Diana.

The building that he donated secretly to Little Home Foundation had been their sanctuary for weeks and a place for Diana to hang out whenever she got the time. James promised to himself to call Cloe tomorrow to organise some donation for her funeral.

His brain tried to work out where Diana would be. He cared about Leyla, but he cared more about his princess. Nothing could happen to her or he wouldn't be able to forgive himself. After all he was the one who made Diana run away from the party. If only he didn't kiss her, she would still be here with him.

The thunder outside worried him even more. The rain seemed to fall even harder and he knew Diana didn't have an umbrella with her. Clearly she was upset by Leyla's death and she would mourn somewhere. She would go to a place where she could be alone to cry...

James shot up and ran to the door, Patrick followed. "Where are you going?" he asked.

"I know where she is." That was all that James said before he rushed into his car and drove away with a loud squeak from the wheels against the road. Frantically Patrick followed with his car.

He wished he could drive into the park but he couldn't go through the narrow gate so James stopped the car right in front of it and ran inside. He didn't care about the slippery pathway or the icy rain that soaked his head, he was thankful for his coat otherwise he would be wet and shivering to death by now.

Diana! Shit! He quickened his steps till he reached the fountain and to his relief he saw her standing there alone.

"Miss Ana... " He approached her.

"Diana!" Patrick rushed in and quickly gathered her body against his chest. "Come, I'll take you home." He said.

"No! She's coming with me!" James gritted his teeth. For a boyfriend who didn't even know where she was, James wouldn't trust Patrick to take care of her and judging by how pale she was, he wouldn't risk it.

He snatched Diana from Patrick's hands and lifted her in his arms and as if Diana had awoken from her dream, she clung to him and hid her face inside the crook of his neck.

"James....." she whispered weakly.

"I'll take you home now Miss Ana, hang in there...."

James walked back to the car. Patrick was clearly in protest but James ignored him.

"I can take care of her." he said.

"I can take care of her better." James responded coldly, his firm gaze stopped Patrick for pursuing her further. He tucked Diana in carefully into the passenger seat then drove off, leaving Patrick standing alone in the quiet park.

Diana seemed warmer inside the car with the heater blasted to the max but James knew he had to rush before she caught hypothermia. Still carrying Diana in his arms he managed to open the front door and went upstairs into her bedroom.

"Miss Ana?" he called, dabbing her face carefully with a towel and pushed her hair to the back so he could see her. She looked down, still sobbing, she didn't answer any of his questions. She just cried and cried and cried.

James' chest was in pain seeing her like this.

"You have to change your clothes Miss Ana or you will get a hypothermia." He talked softly almost whispering, careful not to upset her even more. His hands were busy wrapping her with a towel then drying up her hair more.

"Leyla is dead." She finally opened her mouth.

James stopped.

"She tried to call me but I was too busy with the stupid party. She had a breakdown and she overdosed herself... " Diana sobbed harder.

"Miss Ana... " James took her in his arms. She was pale and weakened. He couldn't believe any of the misfortunes that were circling her life. Witnessing a friend die was mostly for much older people, not a twenty-one-year-old girl like her.

Diana's teeth chattered. "I was there...... in the ambulance...... holding her hand..... her eyes..... " she continued.

"Miss Ana... " He felt her body sagged off in his arms and he knew she would lose her consciousness if she didn't get off her wet costume and warm herself soon.

"I need to get you off your wet clothes now okay?" he finally took charge before it was too late.

She nodded slightly, so James quickly unwrapped the towel and unzipped her Black Widow costume. Carefully he pushed the collars passed her shoulders and down to her torso. The tight wet leather material stuck on her skin like it was superglued and he had to work harder to peel it off her body.

He was shocked of how pale she was, her skin and her lips turned slightly blue.

Panicking, he rushed in taking off the rest of her clothes including her underwear before towelling her dry.

Diana starred at the floor oblivious with what her butler did to her.

He was about to get her dry clothes when he noticed her heavy breathing and her knees started to give up. She almost slammed her face to the floor if it wasn't for him catching her.

"No... no... Miss Ana, wake up!" he tapped her cheek lightly and she opened her eyes.

"Cold... " she mumbled.

"I know... I know... hang in there...." He quickly wrapped a new towel around her naked body then lifted her up to bring her to her bed.

He covered her with a blanket, she turned on her side and curled in a foetus position clearly trying to warm herself up.

But her shiver didn't stop so James took off his trench coat and shoes then climbed on the bed with her to spoon her.

He pulled the blanket up to her neck. His palms covered her cold hands and he rested his head against her temple, trying to give her as much heat as he could. He waited for a few minutes to see if she got better or he would be ready to strip and warmed her skin to skin.

He took a breath of relief, when he felt her steady breathing and her shiver went away.

"Thank you." She murmured.

"You're welcome. Sleep now... "

Diana adjusted her position, pushed herself deeper into James' body and sighed.

"I am sorry I made you worry." An apology came out shakily.

"Ssshhhh..... It's okay....." James replied.

A minute passed that James thought she was asleep but a drop of her tear landed on his hand that wrapped protectively around her chest. Diana cried in silence, she was still grieving and nothing he could do to make her feel better except just being there with her.

James tightened his arms and dropped kisses on her temple, "You can cry Miss Ana... It's okay. I'll be here... It's okay....."

His chest was hurting listening to her sobs. Diana was in pain, so much pain that her cry didn't stop for another three hours till she finally fell asleep from exhaustion.
