Ch. 31 - Faye the Protecter

We learned more about the formation and did some extra training on the days before the expedition. Soon the time came where we would depart into titan territory.

We were all now settled in on horseback in the Karanes district which was on the eastern side. Meaning if we were to head to Shiganshina it wouldn't be a straight path since Trost's gate is no more and blocked by a boulder.

I hadn't seen my family since that day. They've been slowly helping people settle back into Trost and rebuilding. I know I needed to visit at some point. I'll visit after the expedition, if I survive.

I was currently on a dark grey dappled arabian horse. It was a pretty rare breed. She only seems to like me. The way our relationship bloomed is an interesting and very unfun story. For me anyway.

Couple days ago

"Today you'll be getting to know your horses!" Section leader Ness.

It was just Reiner, Mikasa, Armin, Bertholdt, Sasha, Connie, Ymir, Christa, and I for lessons today. Other recruits groups were doing different stuff today.

We were to get use to using our gear on horseback and we were to get to know our horses. Creating a bond with them will help you trust them to come back to you on expeditions. Scouts need to have a strong relationship with their horses.

I was put on a dark brown quarter-horse named Jace. I didn't really feel a strong connection with him as I did simple drills in the field just outside headquarters. It was the space between headquarters and the forest we trained with ODM gear.

We were about to switch to horseback ODM training when we all heard a commotion. We got off of our horse's and noticed a couple of scouts trying to rangel a horse. It ended up kicking out its back legs, staring the two soldiers and bolted towards the forest.

"Jean! You speak horse. Tell it to stop," Connie teased.

"Yeah. Like that'll work," Jean sarcastically said as the horse charged towards our group.

Jean ended up jumping away in fright as the horse just ran past us.

"Come on Jean. Go get your brethren," Connie joked some more.

"Connie. I'm gonna kill you!" Jean yelled.

I hopped back on my horse and chased after the run away stead.

"(Y/N)! Come back!" Christa called and went to go after me, but Ymir stopped her from mounting her horse.

I rode after the horse and eventually caught up to it. It was faster than Jace though, so we were about a foot behind. I had to change tactics. I stood up on my horse and leaped off, activating my ODM gear. I used as much gas as I could and flew after the stead. When I got just above it, I released my grapples and landed on it's back.

The horse didn't respond well to that. It began to try and buck me off, but I held on. I spoke softly to it, trying to calm it down. After awhile, it began to fight less and less to the point where it stopped. I had a giant headache at that point and was very tired.

I slowly got off the horse and walked in front of her lightly grabbing their reins. More like her reins actually. She wasn't please with that and pushed her nose against me, wanting to let go. I sighed and let go.

"You're sure a stubborn mare," I mumbled and gazed around. "I...don't know the way back."

I chuckled nervously and began to whistle for Jace. There was no response. I huffed in annoyance.

"I guess I'll just use my gear and climb a tree," I mumbled.

I went to pull the trigger on my gear and all the sudden a rope was thrown around me. Someone tugged on it and it nagged me back, choking me slightly. I fell back and began to try and pry it off of me while I heard the mare stomp around as I noticed the culprits trying to get a hold of her.

Bandits.

I grabbed my blade and cut the rope holding me. I immediately jumped up and kicked one of them in the groin. As I gazed around at my surroundings, there were six total bandits.

Four were busy trying to get control of the horse. One was already on the ground withering in pain from my kick and the other was coming at me. I grabbed their arm and threw them into a tree, knocking him out. I knew that if the four came after me and fifth one finally got up I would be screwed.

I used my fingers and whistled. I whistled so that it sounded like a tea kettle going off. Ymir, Christa, and I had created this signal in case of emergencies. I just hope they hear it in time.

After I finished whistling, one of the guys I hadn't realized was closer than I though and bashed me in the head with a rifle. I winced in pain as I fell to the ground, holding onto my head. He pointed the rifle at me and I raised my hands up.

"Get up," he ordered and I slowly got up. "Now take off your gear."

I sighed and then hit the release on my gear so that all of it fell on the ground. They had finally gotten ropes over the grey dappled mare.

"We were sent to search just for the thought to be dead daughter of Rod Reiss, but I guess the horse is an added bonus," one of the bandits revealed and my eyes widened.

So, he knows I'm alive. My worse fear was actually true.

"Wait. What's that sound?" One questioned.

It was the sound of ODM gear. Thank the walls I'm not going down to bandits again.

Once the sound was really close, I kicked the guys gun up and he shot into the air.

"Why you little-" he was cut off before he could finish that statement.

Because low and behold Ymir was not having any of it. She basically drop kicked the guy as soon as she reached the ground.

Reiner, Jean, and Mikasa arrived from the air as well, each attacking a bandit. While they did that I ran over to the mare and released her from the ropes. When I did a bandit grabbed my behind and lifted me up so my feet weren't touching the ground.

The mare wasn't having it and came at him, stepping on his shoe. He screamed in pain and let go of me, which caused me to tumble onto the ground. The mare hovered over me and snorted at anyone who came near me.

Eventually all the bandits were apprehended and everyone else had arrived on horseback. They went to retrieved me, but the mare saw them as threats too. It was kind of amusing watching my friends try to get the horse away from me.

I slowly moved out from underneath the mare and went up to her, lightly petting her nose to calm her down.

"Thank you for protecting me," I said softly and she lightly nudged me with her nose which made me giggle.

"(Y/N)! Are you okay?!" Christa called, immediately running over, hugging me.

I slightly winced. My body felt a little scraped up.

"Christa. She's clearly in pain," Ymir informed her, pulling Christa away from me.

I lightly rubbed my temple where the butt of the rifle hit me and Reiner noticed. He immediately went up to me and moved my hand away, seeing a bruise.

"You're pretty battered huh," Reiner muttered and lightly kissed my head. "But, are you okay?"

"I'm okay right now. Bruises heal," I responded with a smile.

Section leader Ness eventually showed up with other scouts and escorted the bandits off. The rest of us got on horses and began to head back to headquarters. I hopped onto the mare I had spent too much time chasing after, and she cooperated.

I smiled in amusement and followed everyone back to headquarters.

"They say that horse hates everyone," Ymir commented. "Although, she seems to really like you."

"Ymir..." I whispered to where she could only here. "My father knows I'm alive. That's why they attacked."

Ymir looked clearly peeved when she heard that. "I won't let him get to you for as long as I'm here," she promised. "Now, what are you going to name her?"

I looked down at the horse and smiled.

"I'll name her Faye."

I hoped you liked this chapter cause I had a fun time writing it.

Horse time baby! And lemme just say that I love Faye and I think it's a cute name.

Also, I just finished cleaning my room and I've never felt more productive than I am now. I'm on a roll baby!

Thanks for reading! Love you guys!
