For The Love of a Brother♡

(Beau's P.O.V.)

We had Dallas, Damion, and a bunch of other Foster kids on our side.

I felt so much adrenaline pumping through my body, and I'm pretty sure Luke felt the same way judging by the way his eyes were as dark as the night sky.

The devil in heels smirked as she quickly left the room. None of us chased after her, no we were smarter than that. One of the foster children managed to free Jai from his shackles, so he was now holding Luke's hand. Something he always did when he was afraid.

"Jai you don't have to be scared." I said to Jai but not too loudly. Though he shook his head and began to say,

"Beau I have a-"
Before Jai could finish his sentence, a voice on an intercom began to fill the halls and rooms and it had snatched everyones attention.

"Good Evening everyone. This is Mrs. Micheals speaking. I am disappointed to announce that there is a slight disturbance among us. The newcomers, Beau, Luke, and Jaidon, have created a rebellion here in the Foster home. Many of you may or may not these boys but, I urge you to stay away from them from now on. They have already taken some of our fellow Foster siblings to their side, which is better to be known as the losing side. For those of you who are currently in your rooms, I can assure you of your safety. Lock your doors, and no harm will reach you. That is a promise and believe me, I am a women of my word. Remain in your rooms until further notice. Thank you." Then that was it.

The Foster kids, my brothers, and I, looked at each other for a moment before Dallas began to speak.

"Okay listen up guys, Mrs. Micheals wants us dead. I'm not gonna sugar coat it so, that's that. She's probably gonna send the men in grey after us so, don't be surprised if you hear gunshots. There's 20 of us here and I think that's all we need. Ten are gonna hold the men in grey off, and five are gonna sneak down to the commons room to make sure that the coast is clear. Once it is, another five of us are gonna get as many of the other Foster kids out of here. Then, we're home free baby!"

"Okay but....who's going with which group? We need the strongest of us to hold off the men in grey long enough for us to get out of here. Not only that, but they gotta be willing to risk sacrificing themselves!" I said trying to remind them of the risks and requirements of our crazy plan.

"Yeah he's right. Which ten of us are gonna want to take the risk? To sacrifice themselves for the rest of the Foster kids? Sorry but um...that's gonna be hard to get volunteers for." A random boy stated.

"Well when you put it like that, it sounds like nobody cares about anybody but themselves. The way I see it, we're a family. Like it or not, the only this is gonna work is by working together. The motto we all used to live by no longer exists. To not cross oceans for people means to drown all on your own. After all, somebody once told me that we should give, even when its not fair. You're supposed to stand up for people even if you're scared too. It shouldn't matter if they don't do the same because, it's about doing things without expecting anything in return. By showing that you would cross an ocean for others, you would be teaching them to do the same! Eventually you'd notice that everyone would be swimming miles across oceans for each other and that the boat of SELFISHNESS in going to sink." Damion said quoting, and sending a smile towards, Jai.

"So, who gonna be willing to fight for the family? To possibly risk their lives for the sake of everyone else's. To fight for the freedom we all deserve. To fight for a second chance we all could have beyond the walls of this foster home. To defend who we are as people. We aren't dogs that can be locked up in rooms. We're human beings! Some were born to be lucky, and some were born to be fighters. The 20 of us are fighters and I'm willing to die with that title on my gravestone." Dallas said.

He then took a step forward, and faced the rest of us. He raised his hand and said,

"I'll lead the ten who choose to hold off the men in grey."

After he spoke, another boy went to stand behind him. Then another, and another, and another and eventually nine bold foster children stood by Dallas.

"We need one more." Dallas said as he counted the foster kids behind him.

No one spoke. No one walked over to Dallas and no one offered to go. Everyone was afraid. Including me. I couldn't go because, if I were to die, I would be leaving my little brothers all alone.

I can't do that.

"I'll go." I heard a voice say that was all too familiar.

Luke's voice.

"No way!" I interjected with wide eyes.

"There is no way I'm letting you do this!" I said as I turned to face him.

"I'm sorry Beau, but this is not your decision to make. It's mine."

"But it's my responsibility to keep you two safe! I can't let you do this Luke. I'm sorry but, the answer is no."

"I didn't ask for your permission!" Luke began to raise his voice.

"Luke listen to me, I can't lose you!" I raised mine even louder and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Damion pull Jai into his comforting arms.

"Beau what I'm doing is for the best!" Luke argued.

"No it's not! I need you and Jai needs you! I can't let you do this!"

"I HAVE TOO!"

"NO YOU DON'T!"

"IF I DO THIS THEN I KNOW I CAN GET YOU AND JAI OUT OF HERE! THIS IS THE ONLY WAY BEAU!" Luke yelled red in the face.

"But I can't just leave not knowing if you're gonna be right behind me! Don't you get it Luke?! I can't go knowing that I've left you behind!" I said as I began to let tears fall.

Luke then walked closer to me and wiped my tears away. Something I usually did to him.

"Beau if you love me, then you'll let me do this. The only way I can be truly happy, is by knowing that I'm fighting for you and Jai. Knowing that what I'm doing is finally right! Knowing that I finally have the opportunity to get you guys to safety is the best feeling in the world! Beau I have to do this." Luke said with teary eyes.

Perhaps Luke knew what he was doing so, I did what an older brother was supposed to do.

I trusted him.

"Fine. I'll let you do this but, promise me you won't leave Jai and I alone okay? You come back to us alright? We're gonna be waiting for you down at the train station a-and....and you better show up!"

"I'll be there." Luke promised and then hugged me tight.

I never thought I'd be hugging my brother for what may be the last time. Right before he goes off to fight against men with guns and knives.

Luke slowly released me and then went over to Jai, who threw himself into Luke's arms. Luke held him tightly in his arms and then rocked him back and forth. Something they always did to comfort each other.

They didn't say anything during the hug because, there was nothing to be said. A million things can be silently said through ones arms in a hug.

Once they released, they still remained really close to each other. They rested their heads together and closed their eyes. Jai then sniffled and said,

"You're an idiot you know that?"

Luke laughed a little and said,

"Love you too Jai."

They both smiled, and then Jai continued on and said,

"When you said that you finally feel like you're doing something right, I want you to know that you've haven't been doing anything wrong."

"Jai I...I've killed people! I've done wrong time after time you don't understand-" Luke said quietly but, Jai interrupted and said,

"But you've also done right. You've saved people and you've become a hero."

"I'm not anyone's hero." Luke whispered to Jai with a single tear rolling down his face.

Jai wiped away Luke's tear and reminded him,

"You're my hero. The necklaces I gave you and Beau weren't a joke Luke." Jai said about the necklaces he gave to Luke and I for Christmas.

Luke smiled and then kissed Jai's forehead.

"For the love of a brother please come back to me." Jai whispered with tears failing to hold themselves in any longer.

"And with all the love in the world I swear to you that I will." Luke said.

Then the three of us hugged together one last time before Luke went over to stand by Dallas.
I took Jai's hand in my own, and then waited for the next move to be made.

"Jack, Sam, Ryan, and Jenny, you five go to the commons room and give the signal when the coast is clear. Damion, Beau, Jai, Lilly, and Austin, you five get as many of the other fosters kids that you can. The more the better." Dallas said.

"What's the signal gonna be?" One of the foster kids asked.

"Trust me, you'll know when you hear it. Now c'mon guys! We've got a family to fight for." Dallas said and then led out the ten brave foster kids who have chosen to risk themselves for everyone else.

"You know, love is just a word until somebody comes along and gives it meaning." Jai said as he watched Luke leave the room.

For the love of a brother please come back to us Luke.
