From that first explosion in first year, when everyone laughed except you, Seamus Finnegan knew you were the one. Of course, you didn't know that, because you thought HE was the one, and that he'd never reciprocate those feelings for the girl who was just as good at magic as Neville Longbottom. And by good, you meant horrible. So of course, you and Neville were close friends, and since you guys were close, Seamus and Dean Thomas took you in as a good friend too. The 4 of you were inseparable most days. In classes you'd partner up and sit with each other, at meals you all would crack jokes the entire time, in the Gryfinndor Common Room you'd be up into the late hours of night, studying or goofing around. For 5 years now.

You're currently in the Room of Requirement, working on the Patronus Charm. You and Neville just recently mastered the Disarming charm after weeks of practice, and now they expected you to learn this?! You couldn't get more than a fizzle of blue tinted light to emit from your wand, let alone the full body creatures running around that the other students had conjured up. You glance around at your friends here, landing your eyes on your small group. Seamus was watching his fox patronus run around, Dean had managed to get his patronus out and was laughing as it ran around the room. Even Neville had a patronus that was almost full bodied. Almost. But closer than yours was.

You close your eyes and think of a happy memory, one with your family over holiday last summer. You give a small smile and raise your wand. "Expecto Patronum!" You open your eyes and the smile fades when the light fizzles out again as quickly as it came. You sigh, disappointed, and walk to the side of the room to take a break. You were seriously debating on giving up on this damn spell.

"'Ello (Y/N). How's the patronus coming along?" Seamus comes over and sits next to you, his thick Scottish accent sending a wave of relief through you at the sound. It couldn't be so bad if he was with you, right?

"Not great." You shrug. "I'm kinda done with it to be completely honest with you." you chuckle lightly, running a hand through your hair. Seamus nudges you, giving you a lopsided smile.

"Come on. I'll help ya out." He stands and overs his hand to help you up.

   "Seamus you don't have to."

"Nonsense. After all the times you helped me with my magic?" You laugh at the countless memories of helping him when he would blow up yet another spell in his face. "See? Now come on I owe you one."

You get to your feet and get back to working on the spell that's been giving you such a hard time. After another 10 minutes, Seamus steps in front of you, forcing you to look him in the eyes. "You need to find the most powerful happy memory you have, (Y/N). Like really think about something that brings you so much joy you could burst." You hesitate.

You've been holding back from one memory you have. A strong one. The one from that first time seeing Seamus blow something up in his face when you went to help him. His face when he first saw you as his best friend. Your strong will to be by his side no matter what other people would say or do.

You nod at Seamus. "I'm ready." You take a deep breath, a mutter the spell, thinking only of that memory with Seamus. Before you know it, a fox erupts from your wand. You give a cry of joy, watching it run, and laugh happily. "I did it!"

Seamus laughs, clapping a bit with Dean and Neville who have been watching all this. "Of course, you did! And look! We're twins with our patronus!"

"Alright guys I think that's enough for today! Have a lovely break and I'll see you all once we get back!" Harry says, dismissing everyone.

You hug him tightly. "Thank you so much Seamus."

He hugs you back. "Again, I owed you one. I'll always have my girl's back." he smiles, tightening his hold around you. You practically melt, between him calling you his girl and the safety his arms give you. You don't even realize that everyone else has left the room at this point. Seamus seems to notice as well and chuckles awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "We should uh-we should get back to the Common Room."

You nod and follow him out and down the halls. You're almost back to the Fat Lady's portrait before you speak. "Seamus? I need to tell you something."

He slows his pace and gives you his full attention. "Of course (Y/n). You can tell me anything you know that."

You take a deep breath. "I like you. I really really like you Seamus and I have for many years now. I just didn't know how to tell you and I worried things would be awkward and that you wouldn't feel the same and I couldn't do that to our little friend group and make things weird and-"

You get cut off by his lips on yours, and after the initial shock at realizing what was happening, you melt into the kiss, his hands holding your face gently, yours holding his arms. When he finally pulls away, he rests his forehead on yours.

"I like you too. Ever since you helped me that day in Charms in first year and I blew up the feather." he laughs lightly. "You were the only one who didn't laugh."

You smile. "You always did let your frustration get the best of you." He laughs again and pulls away, looking into your eyes before offering his hand for you to take. Of course, you don't even think about it, and take his hand. You walk hand in hand the rest of the way to the Common Room, making small jokes now and then like you always do.

When you get through the portrait, you see the Common Room is already empty, which was no surprise given the hour. Seamus turns to you when you reach the stairs that lead to the girl's dorm. "How about I take you on a proper date? This weekend in Hogsmeade perhaps? We can go to the Hog's Head for a bit and walk around or something. Get some food?"

You smile and nod. "I'd like that very much."

He grins. "Fantastic. Well, we should get to bed. It's late." He leans up and kisses you once more. "Does this mean I can call you my girlfriend officially now?"

You blush. "Only if I can call you my boyfriend."

He laughs and turns to go to his dorm. "Deal."
