"Are you ever gonna tell that girl the truth?" Mom asks.

"Yeah, after I solve the case." I say.

"If you don't tell her and she finds out, you're gonna lose her." Mom says.

"She's not gonna find out." I say.

"Good morning to my bonus daughter." Mom says as Maddy comes downstairs.

"Good morning." Maddy says as I kiss her cheek.

"Auntie, why didn't you wake me up?" Maddy asks.

"Auntie?" Mom asks.

"Yeah because she looks so old." Maddy says.

Mom laughs and smiles.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" Maddy asks as mom walks away.

"You were sleeping and you look extra cute when you're sleeping." I say.

Maddy smiles and kisses me.

"I gotta pick my brother up from the airport. You wanna come with?" I say.

"Sure. He's younger than you, right?" Maddy asks.

"By 7 minutes. Best 7 minutes of my life." I say.

Maddy laughs and I smile.

Time Skip

Tommy hugs me and I smile.

"How was your flight?" I ask.

"It was good. Who's this?" Tommy says.

"Tommy this is my girlfriend Maddy. Maddy this is my brother Tommy." I say.

"Damn, you really are the oldest looking person in your family." Maddy says as they shake hands.

"It's probably just stress from wor—" Tommy says.

"Mm." I say staring at Tommy.

"What?" Maddy asks.

"Stress from working so hard in school." Tommy says.

"Please, she scrolls on Twitter looking at memes the entire period." Maddy says.

Tommy laughs and Maddy smiles.

"I'm gonna help him get his bags." I say.

Maddy nods and we walk away.

"You didn't tell me you were undercover!" Tommy says.

"I forgot!" I say.

"Are you dating her just because—" Tommy asks.

"No, of course not!" I say.

"Is she of age?" Tommy asks.

"She'll be 19 in January." I say.

"So you really love this girl?" He asks.

"Yeah." I say.

"You need to be careful. Careful with her feelings and her safety." He says.

"Look at you trying to be a big brother." I say.

He laughs and I smile.

Time Skip

"Any parties tonight?" I ask.

"You wanna go to a party?" Maddy asks.

"Yeah." I say.

"Okay, you're driving." Maddy says.

20 minutes later...

"I gotta pee." Maddy says.

"You went before we left." I say.

"The shorter you are, the smaller your bladder." Maddy says wandering away.

I shake my head and someone taps my shoulder.

"Hey, Y/n." Rue says.

"Hey." I say.

"I talked to my guy and got you something a little less strong." Rue says.

Rue hands me a small bag and I look at it.

"Thanks. I think I'll wait to take it so I don't tackle anyone." I say.

Rue laughs and I smile. Rue walks away and someone bumps into me. The bag falls out of my hand and someone steps on it.

"Shit." I mumble.

"Where's Maddy? You lose her already?" Nate says.

"Fuck off." I say.

"I got my cast off, now it's a fair fight. You know, as long as you're not on drugs." Nate says.

"Drugs or not, I'll still kick your ass." I say.

"I'd love to see you try." Nate says.

"Only thing you're about to see is my fist hitting your face." I say.

"Maddy doesn't need you to protect her." Nate says.

"Of course not, but I got a problem with people who make others feel like they need to protect themselves." I say.

"I'm back!" Maddy says coming back.

"What's going on?" Maddy asks as me and Nate stare at each other.

"Nothing." Nate says.

"That's what I thought." I say as he walks away.

"Fuck." I say picking the bag up.

"What is that?" Maddy asks.

"Nothing." I say putting it in my pocket.

Hopefully forensics can do something with the crumbs.

"What was that all about?" Maddy asks.

"Nothing." I say.

"Did he hit you?!" Maddy asks.

"Hit me with a bunch of hot air." I say.

Maddy laughs and I smile.
