Chapter I

To celebrate her new job as a music teacher, Chloe was out at a bar with her best friend Aubrey. The two had been friends ever since college. They were in an a capella group called the Barden Bellas, which was their life. They wished that they didn't have to graduate. If they could, they would have been Bellas forever but unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Chloe was scared to graduate and move on but she had Aubrey by her side so things weren't so bad, especially now. Chloe had received the news earlier today that she got the job she applied for to be a music teacher at one of the high schools in New York. Chloe loved music and she loved kids so it was only natural that she got a job as a music teacher.

"Here's to you!" Aubrey said, holding up her martini glass. "Miss Beale the music teacher!"

"That'll be Mrs Walp soon," Chloe corrected with a smile.

"To you!"

The women drank to Chloe's success.

"So, how are you going to cope without Chicago?" Aubrey teased.

"I'll be just fine, thank you."

"This is the longest you two have ever been away from each other."

"Well, he's a very important man in the army. I was waiting for him to get a call saying that he was needed for a while."

"He is but you two have a strong relationship. With your new job, I'm sure the time will fly by."

"I'm sure it will, too. What about you? Any progress in the love department?"

"No, nothing yet."

"Oh, come on, Bree!"

"I'm just not looking for anyone right now."

"You've been saying that ever since I met you. Why don't you try looking for someone?"

"I don't know..."

"Come on, Bree, it'll be fun! I can be your wing woman! Why don't we start here?"

"At a bar?"

"Do you have a better place to go looking?"

"No," she sighed.

"That's what I thought. Now, let's have a look..." Chloe and Aubrey turned around on their stools and looked around the bar for potential candidates for the blonde. "What about him?"

Chloe pointed to a random guy.

"No, not my type."

"You have a type?"

"No, I just don't like the look of him that's all."

"Okay..." Chloe scanned the area for another suiter. "Him?"

"No."

"Him?"

"No."

"Him?"

"No."

"Bree, you're not making this easy!"

"I told you, Chloe, I'm not looking for anyone!"

Chloe sighed. "Listen, I know you're afraid of putting yourself out there but you'll never find someone if you don't."

"Who says I need someone in the first place? I'm perfectly fine on my own."

"Maybe, but you're missing out on something beautiful. I wasn't interested in anyone either but when I met Chicago, he was amazing and before I knew it, I fell for him and I couldn't have said yes quick enough when he proposed. We've been together for over two years and we're going to be together for many more years to come. It's not all doom and gloom as some people make it out to be."

"That's all well and good for you, Chloe, but I don't think I'm ready for that yet."

"Who knows though, Bree. You might stumble across someone who you absolutely adore or someone might stumble across you and adore you. Love comes in many different yet exciting ways."

"I'm not closed off from love, I'm open to it, but I just don't feel like searching for it at the moment. I'm too busy with my job."

"Bree, you and I both know that you're a workaholic. Even if you don't like what you do, you'll still give it your all."

"I don't know what you want from me, Chlo."

"Just... keep an open mind tonight. The night is still early so there will be more people who'll come and go. If you see anyone you like then don't be scared to go up to them. A lot of people who come out here are single so that'll make things easier for you."

"Thanks," Aubrey chuckled. "I'll keep that in mind."

"Come on, Becs, it's not the end of the world," Stacie told her best friend.

"This is my sixth rejection, Stace... What if I just don't have what it takes to become a music producer?" Beca sighed.

"Hey, don't say that. You're an amazing artist and I'm not just saying that because you're my best friend. You and I both know that the music industry is very competitive and it's tough to get into. But don't let this minor set back stop you from achieving your dreams."

"I appreciate it, Stace, but-"

"No buts. Yes, you didn't get the feedback you wanted but that doesn't mean it's over. There are going to be people who knock you back but you keep pushing and eventually, you'll get what you want. Just look at all the other famous music producers, celebrities, and geniuses. Heaps of them got knocked back but now they're doing what they love and everyone loves them! That'll be you."

Beca smiled at the woman. Stacie always knew just what to say. Beca had recently submitted several songs to a music agency but unfortunately, it wasn't what they were looking for. Each time Beca got rejected, she felt like she didn't have any talent and that she should just stop trying but making music was in her heart and she couldn't put out the fire inside her. She was glad that she had Stacie as her best friend or else she wouldn't know if she'd still be pursuing a career in music.

Beca and Stacie had been friends since high school. They went to college together and were now sharing an apartment. Stacie was a well-known personal trainer in the city while Beca was working at a music studio but it wasn't going as well as she thought it would. Her colleagues didn't listen to the contributions that she gave and if they did, they hardly ever took them on board. Beca had great ideas to give and ideas that made client's music better but no one was interested. It was hard but it's all Beca had. After receiving the bad news, Stacie decided that the two of them go out to a bar for a drink and relax. It was a Friday night so it was only right for them to go out, forget about their week, and have a good time.

"Thanks, Stace," Beca said.

"You're welcome. Now, enough talking about our sorrows and let's start drowning them."

Beca laughed and picked up her beer. "Sounds good to me."
