Danger catch/An explanation

Age few days before the meeting

Mirko POV

The chase is on! I finally caught the guy in the act and now we're having a hero chase down the hallway. He's been annoying me a lot now and I can't let him get away.

I sprint down after the man, nearly an arm distance away, but suddenly he does a 180 degree turn and shoots me in the face! It hits my forehead but I still close my eyes.

When I open them, the man was gone!! F*ck!!! How did he get away so quick?! This whole thing has just been dog sh*t!! I stomp my feet out of anger and head into the staff room.

I slouch on the couch, sweating, in pain of the latest case of tennis ball I had just encountered. What am I doing wrong? I always try and run towards the guy, dodging the tennis balls he shoots but it just doesn't work. He hit me in the face twice today!!

"Hmm, I see you struggling" Crimson's voice says. He was leaning on the doorframe, crossed arms.

I put my head down and groan "Maybe I'm just not quick enough for this".

"No"

I look up at him as he walks up to me to sit beside me "You are quick, but do you happen to strategise?".

I think for a moment. For some reason, I can only think of the Shimura one, where we both fought against Mitsuki and Domeki. Was that really the only time I strategised? With others?

"I can't remember a lot of times..." I admit "I'm more of a head-on fighter I guess".

"I could tell" he nods.

"But aren't you known for head butting danger? To basically risk everything and anything?" I ask desperately. He then just laughs. This is the first time I've seen him laugh, or even smile. Was he even capable of that?

He stops and chuckles "Well, I guess that's true. But really, that behaviour isn't the best. Especially for a kid like you".

He looks at me, and I see his Crimson eyes with a bit of sadness "There was an incident early in my career, where a bit of hesitation led to deaths. Thanks to that, I would rather have myself dead than innocent people.".

Oh... damn. I never heard any of that. "This activity was to show you that problems can't just be solved in a flash" he explains "Now, I want you to think about what you know and how to utilise it". He then stands up to leave.

What I know?

...

What I know... what I know. What DO I even know?!

I pace around the room thinking and thinking. How can I catch the criminal but causing the least damage? How can I catch the criminal, outside the act?

Wait... Shimura said 'we have to look for distinguishing characteristics' or something like that during Battle Trial. I know the guy has silver hair, and very light blue eyes, like translucent, as well as grey skin. He's probably 6'3 if I think about it.

That's it! I have to hunt him down to defeat him.

I left the room and head down the corridors, where I'm an easy target for him. He mostly shoots me outside of the weights rooms and very close to the main ground of the agency.

I walk around the bottom floor, keeping my eyes out for him, but there was nothing. No one was there, it was empty. Ugh, I'm getting too tired of waiting for this. Is there another way?

Hmm, I have to look for a man with grey hair and skin as well as translucent eyes. The closest I've been to catching him was when he shot me in the face and disappeared almost instantly. He could have a camouflage quirk!

It makes so much sense too! A camouflage quirk is exactly what someone would need to disappear without any one noticing.

But how can I even catch him now!? No way I'll spot him.

Wait... my ears are twitching. I hear someone. It's like when you reload a gun. It's coming from behind. Suddenly I hear a shot sound.

I turn around quickly to see the tennis ball coming out of nowhere, going to hit me. But this time I don't dodge. I catch it and throw it exactly where it came from. I made sure there was a good swing as well.

Suddenly it hit a man's head who appeared out of nowhere and he fell on to the floor in pain. Ooo... that's gotta hurt.

I rush up to him to get him standing and take the gun off him. Then I push him to the wall as he struggles to get out.

Suddenly, a voice says "Good job, Mirko, knew you could do it.".

I look behind me and see Crimson, nodding at me in approval.

I finally did it!! I caught him!!!

...

Fast forward to present day

Dabi POV

I just got off the train, and I'm now heading home. Well, on a detour.

I arrive in front of Shimura's house. I just hope All might is here. And if so, I hope Shimura isn't. It'll make this whole thing harder than it needs to be.

Suddenly their front door opens, and Shimura pops his head out. Damnit. He smiles at my arrival and opens the gates for me. At least let his Dad be home. Maybe I can work around it. When I meet him at the front door, we both head inside and he greets me with a smile.

"Dabi! What are you doing here?" He exclaims welcomely.

I look at him and ask desperately as I take my shoes off "Is your Dad home? I need to talk to him...".

He furrows his eyebrows "Yeah... in the kitchen".

We head there to find All might sitting at their counter in the middle of the kitchen, yeah their THAT rich that they can sit and look at how their food is made from each angle, looking through a news paper. He then looks up and sees us.

"Young Dabi! It's lovely to see you again! Are you here to hangout with Tenko?" He cheers.

I look at him nervously. Shimura is literally next to me, how can I ask for a private chat without looking suspicious.

"Umm, I want to talk to you personally about the thing that happened two days ago..." I say glancing through them.

He nods and tilts his head "Tenko knows the details".

Wait what?! Did they allow him to tell his son!? I mean I guess that he wasn't the one sworn to secrecy but like still! Does Shimura have information on other crimes?

Shimura perks up "Oh the meeting? How do you know about that?" Looking at me for answers. How much did All might even tell you?

All might puts the paper down "Your friend here is the one who got the video".

He looks at me in shock "YOU WENT TO AFO'S HIDEOUT?!?". Oh, why is everyone so concerned?

I put my hands up "He didn't see me though! In fact, he didn't even have eyes!!".

"But still, that was dangerous. Didn't your pros tell you to not do anything like that!!"

"You find a purple portal and tell me what you do!!!"

"BOYS!" All might projects to stop us "Now is not the time".

I sit on a stool and Shimura sits on one a few chairs from me. What if All might doesn't know anything about this 'One for all' quirk? He'll then force me to say other details about my time there that I didn't tell the Detective. But he has to, he's like one of the oldest heroes that haven't retired yet.

"What is the quirk, One for all?" I ask finally after three seconds of awkward silence.

I think I said something wrong here.

Shimura's hand goes to his mouth as All might looks to me with pure surprise "How do you know it's a quirk?".

"It's pretty obvious" I shrug but then explain it "Afo's quirk is, of course, All for one. One for all is legit the opposite. When I was going to leave the lab after recording the video, but the dude said something like 'He'll be so afraid that he'll pass OFA down to someone less experienced'.".

All might nods, smile dropping. I think I stunned him. I look over to Shimura, staring back at me, wondering something, like if he should tell me the answers I want. Which he should, honestly.

I look back to All might, this time peering at me. This family might murder me for knowing too much.

All might finally asks "Young Dabi, can we trust you?"-I feel like I'm in a family drama-I nod in reply.

"One for all is my quirk" he admits-shocker-"It's a transferable power, like both the name and Afo says. Long ago, Afo forced his younger brother a quirk to stockpile power within his body. The brother didn't like the older one and wanted justice. Unknown to both at the time, the younger already had a quirk that could only be transferred but had no power. That's how One for all came to be. It was a torch, and it's fire was passed down to generations of users. Until I had it.".

My mouth hangs open. Wow, just wow. An actual quirk that could pass down through generations. Now we know what quirk All might has.

"Woah," I start "Is there anything else?".

"Well, one thing" he says, a bit more nervous. Suddenly he just poofs.

I cover myself for impact but all I could see, all that was left, was All might, I think?

He was a very skinny man with sharp, angular features and long limbs, his neck long and his eyebrows were absent. His hair is wavier with two long strands coming down from his hairline and framing his face.

Who the-What the f*ck!?

My mouth was hitting the table as he explains "This is my 'true form'. My last fight with Afo had caused some damage indeed.".

'Some'?!? This guy is literally skin and bones. No muscle, no nothing!! The f*ck is this!?! Holy helly sh*t!!! Sugar honey iced tea!!!

"Thank you for telling me this Dabi." He says, reaching over to my shoulder to pat it, while I was still awestruck.

Shimura then smiles warmly "This means we can trust you! With a lot of stuff actually...". Uh, oh, more lore to these guys.

Shimura then stands up and guides me upstairs "Now come on! I want to tell you something about my grandmother! You'll find it really interesting!!".

...

I arrive at my very own battered apartment. Honestly, it's pure vomit compared to Shimura's but it does the job. Plus, rent free!

I walk in and get changed. Afterwards, I kick back on my sofa and indulge the information.

For starters, there's the fact that All for one is after a quirk that is transferable. But why? I highly doubt it if the man doesn't have immortality. And he's been around for god knows since there's been 8 users, including All might. He doesn't need to pass it on to no one.

But on the other hand, he looks like he's on life support. I mean, firstly he's got no nose and secondly he has literal tubes stuck in his body. Maybe he does need to pass it on?

But wouldn't that mean there's a successor involved? A future threat? I mean, who would want to live forever? And with a power like that, it would be a waste dying.

Off topic, does All might's muscle meat, from Big might to Skinny might, just vanish? Like, I'm still wanna question it all. Where does it all go!? Surely it's transferred into something and is stored, right?

Suddenly-and luckily-my thoughts were disturbed by a noise. I look up and see something VERY familiar, and VERY untrustworthy.

I'll spare you the suspense, it's a purple portal.

It was the same colours of purple swirling around the the same edges that flap in the wind.

Why is it here though? This area is basically abandoned and isn't the area that the government would care about, unlike Hosu. And nothing is even coming out of it.

What if... it'll be dangerous and stupid...but resourceful too... there are things worse than death that could happen to me... but it's for disobeying Eraserhead!

I grab my phone and stand up slowly. If I do die, or something, I just wanna say, heaven or hell, I'll be dancing.

I enter in slowly. This time it feels so...wavy and breezy, like I was transported through dimensions, but it stops as I enter a dark room with only enough light to see around. It wasn't the lab. It was something more formal. There were cabinets and lockers and desks and blank boards.

I start immediately taking pictures of all I could and exploring the area. I search in case there was any cameras back nothing. Hmm, it's already strange enough that a portal led me here using my curiosity, but no cameras? This is the place of the most dangerous villain, there's bound to be cameras.

I then spot a cabinet. All the rest of them are closed and locked, but this one was open. And it seems deliberate too. I open it even wider and then look through the files. They were all about Nomus and the science behind them.

Now these are what we need! But wouldn't it be obvious if I take them? Would that make me a target or something? Hmm, but it's open so it could be for me. But it also could be a trap...

I'll leave them here. As much as I want to take it, I can't risk him finding me. I head back to where the portal is, thinking it through, until it just disappears.

It trapped me in! Oh, sh*t oh sh*t oh sh*t! I walk myself backwards into a wall, sliding down it into my despair. This is what you get when messing with authority and putting yourself in dangerous situations. Y'know what?! I hope someone does come in here and find you and bring your to that faceless b*tch so he can force powers onto me and I become a bird monster!!!

I stand up again quickly. No way I'll let them find me in my own mess of depressing thoughts. I look to my side, the cabinet was still open. I might as well just look at them more closely now. I take the whole stack of them but before I start reading, the portal appears again.

What? Why-wait. Let's just quickly test something.

I plop them back in, and as I predicted, the portal vanishes. Ohhh, I think I understand. All of a sudden, there was footsteps coming from outside the room. Oh, sh*t! I grab the files again so the portal appears and jump in it.
