Chapter 16

I pick a handful of the eucalyptus leaves and stuff it in my mouth. The bitter juice runs down my chin and travels down my throat.

"KOALA SUPER POWER!" I scream.

"JACOB GET DOWN!" Eva screams.

Jacob P.O.V

Just as Eva screams at me, I see a koala make its way up higher onto the tree and I decide I should follow it. We're like best friends, right?

Everyone down below are either jeering at me or worried for my life, though I'm not exactly sure why they're scared for my life. I feel great. In fact I feel just like a koala! I stuff more leaves into my mouth and eat it all up. It's so bitter, but so tasty! My stomach lurches uncomfortably but I'm sure it's just the excitement.

"JACOB!" Paige cries stressfully, "if you come down now, we'll see the koalas first next time we go to the zoo, and I'll also buy you a koala from the gift store! Just please come down!"

"Jacob!" Danielle whines, pouting, "just come down! The butterfly enclosure's closing in like 30 minutes! I really wanna see the butterflies!"

Even though I love Danielle to the ends of the earth, I refuse to see the butterflies. They are evil animals that take things from flowers and spread their nasty pollen and make my nose itch. I detest the butterflies; the worst part is that butterflies don't even make that much butter! When have you seen a butterfly produce butter and a human collect it?

"I WILL NEVER COME BACK DOWN UNLESS THE BUTTERFLIES DIE!" I shriek back down.

The eucalyptus branch I'm on shakes dangerously. The other tourists around me look really startled and annoyed; they're all yelling at me to get down because I'm endangering the koalas. Pfft! I am one with the koala!

"Come to daddy slowly!" I say to the koala above. It growls and opens its mouth at me, showing me its ferocious teeth.

"JACOB THAT'S NOT A KOALA!" Eva screams, "IT'S A DROP BEAR! GET DOWN NOW!"

"KOALA, DROP-BEAR, POTATO, POTATA! IT'S THE SAME THING!" I screech back and take the drop bear in my arms. It lets out a huge hiss and sinks its teeth into my arm. "OW OW OW OW OW! THE DROP BEAR THINGY IS BITING ME THE DROP BEAR THINGY IS BITING ME THE DROP BEAR THINGY IS BITING ME THE DROP BEAR THINGY IS BITING Mβ€”"

I release my grip on the branch momentarily and I stumble down. Someone screams from down below. I wonder if this is how I will die. I land at an odd angle and a little pain shoots up my arm. Otherwise, I feel fine.

The zoo security take me by the arms and lower me down onto the ground while I amazingly reject medical attention by bawling all over the ground. Paige slips away for a while and comes back with a koala from the gift store to help me cooperate with the strange men trying to apply anesthetic. It works, because the koala is SOOOOO cute!

"Well sir," the medic says after applying all the bandages, "your wound looks pretty good. It'd be a smart idea to go to a hospital to get it tested for infection, and you are suffering from a mild case of eucalyptus poisoning. But other than that, you're all good to go."

I get up and Mychael helps me start walking. Under the watchful eye of zoo security, we are escorted out of the zoo. Somewhere, a girl whispers loudly, "They're the weird Uluru singing group that got banned or some shit."

Danielle hears this and launches herself at the girl, kicking, scratching and biting. Luckily, the zoo security predicts this and pulls them apart in no time. After that, we are practically dragged out of the zoo.

The guide is fuming so we pile into the van, all silent. He says he's taking us to this place called Great Ocean Road or something. Apparently it's being destroyed by erosion and stuff, but like no one gives a damn. Eva and Payton are smiling and laughing with each other. They seem to have worked out their differences. Mychael clearly hasn't though. He's frowning at them as Paris yammers on about her makeup routines.

The guide tells us to get comfortable because the ride will take more than two hours. Sarah passes out bottles of water and bags of chips to everyone and we set off. Danielle's still mad at me, and that's really sad considering the fact that I was gonna make her get married to me.

There's one thing for sure: our wedding is gonna be better than Lauren and Sebastian's. I still recount that cheap marriage. Almost on cue, Lauren starts bragging about her wedding again. She's retold her dream wedding so many times I can even remember the colour of the serviettes.

Everyone groans inwardly as their dreams for sleeping on the ride is crushed. Sebastian's eyes light up and they launch into their special day.

"Remember my orange suit? It took me ages to convince my mum to let me wear it but it was totally worth it," Sebastian gushed.

"O-M-G. YAAASSS!" Lauren preens, "my blue dress complimented your skin and suit so well!"

"And the 86 year old priest in the orange jumpsuit was definitely the best part! He rocked that spray tan," Sebastian sighs happily.

"I love you my little orange sweetie," Lauren burst out into tears.

"I love you my little blueberry babe," Sebastian sobs.

They start making out right there and this time we don't suppress our groans. I have to turn to the van window to stop myself from hurling up. After a while, they finish kissing and they turn to us.

"What were your favourite moments?" Lauren grins, starry eyed, "let's all share our favourite moments!

Zoe enjoyed the wedding the most out of all of us. She jumps in to share her favourite things.

"I loved the wedding favours!" she says, "the little spray tan bottles were so cute!"

"I uh..." Eva stalls, looking at Payton for help.

"We both loved the orange juice and the blueberry smoothie fountain," Payton lies smoothly.

Mychael's frown deepens.

"The theme was creative," he says.

"I liked the little bridesmaids," Trinity smiles sweetly.

"The free spray tanning salon was pretty useful," Brooke shrugs.

"The food was shit," Noen grumbles.

There's a bit of a pause but Brooke saves the situation by laughing awkwardly. Soon, we're all are laughing at nothing at all to relieve the tension.

"We liked the band. The matching fruit themed outfits were pretty sick," Cash and Maverick agree.

"It was okay," Lil Huddy says, not looking up from his phone.

"The meal was super tasty!" Sarah tries to be positive.

"We had orange themed food for the whole course," Noen says, deadpan.

"Orange and spinach soup is delicious!" Sarah argues weakly.

"Boiled flounder with orange sauce?" Noen says with disgust.

"Hey!" I bristle, "that was my favourite main course!"

"Whatever," Danielle cuts in, "the wedding was a little tacky. I didn't enjoy it."

"You weren't even invited," Lauren hisses.

"Yeah, well I realised crashing the party and singing might have taken away your spotlight, but you gotta realise not everything is about you," Danielle argues.

"It was my wedding day!" Lauren cries.

Danielle sighs and starts brushing her hair.

"And I only got five minutes onstage before I was escorted out by security but you don't see me complaining, do you?"

I check my watch. It's only been ten minutes. Lauren looks like she wants to rip Danielle's heart out. Its going to be a long journey.
