chapter 35, no more secret

A FEW HOURS Later, the Ducks sat at a table in the cafeteria and Cameron sat beside her. He had kissed her aching cheek to make it seem like their relationship was good and that nothing bad was happening. But it did not convince the team at all.

From the table beside their's, Adam glared at the couple while the fork in his hand broke. He stared in jealousy and anger as he stood up, his chair making a loud noise. The Ducks looked over to him and he stormed out of the washroom. The only person that didn't seem to notice was Cameron.

"What's up with him?" Connie questioned, looking back at the team. They all shared the same confused faces.

Just as Guy was going to stand up and check up on Adam, Cassidy stopped him by standing up instead.

"I'll be back, I need to use the washroom." Cassidy excused herself, following Adam out of the Cafeteria. The team looked at each other with the same look on their faces as they watched cassidy walk out of the cafe.

Cassidy starts making her way to the bathroom where Adam was, walking inside. She didn't care if it was the boys bathroom. Adam gripped onto the sink while he looked down at the tiled floor. The sounds of Cassidy's footsteps makes him turn his head to look at her.

"You okay?" She asked as Adam's eyes met hers.

"Why are you with him?"

Cassidy froze, realizing that he was talking about Cameron. She inhaled sharply and said. "I don't think that's any of your business."

Adam stared at her for a moment more before pursing his lips. "You could have simply said because you loved him." He said, taking a step forward. "Or because you care about him but you said neither."

Cassidy looked up at him, her arms crossed but then her gaze lowers down to the floor. "Of course I love him." She lied.

"Then how come you can't look me in the eye while saying it?"

The two stayed silent. Cassidy pursed her lips and she thought to herself. 'because I love you, not him' She broke the awkward silence and turned her head to the side.

"Well, I'm gonna go back. The team is probably waiting and Cameron will get worried." She said, turning on her heels and walking away. But instead, Adam grabbed her arm to prevent her from walking away.

Cassidy sighed heavily, letting herself melt into his touch. She felt her heart ache at the same time too, turning around to face him. 

"You may be able to fool the team but you're not able to fool me." Adam said, his blue eyes looking down at her.

Cassidy shook her head and spoke up. "I have no clue what you're talking about."

"You're with that asshole to prevent something from happening." Adam said, making Cassidy freeze in fear. "You don't love him, you love someone else."

Cassidy looked up at him with disbelief in her eyes. "Excuse me? Who the hell do you think you are to tell me who I love or not?"

"You answer my question first." Adam said, Cassidy looking at him. "Why are you staying with him when he hurts you, Cass?"
