FORTY-SEVEN !

chapter 47,Β reunion

TODAY WAS THE Β day. It was the day that the Ducks reunited like they day every year after they graduated high school. Cassidy and Adam were now in their 40's. Adam was a bit taller, lankier and his hair was slightly grown out, resting above his shoulders. He had slight wrinkled on his face and he didn't wear his clothes he used to wear when he was a teenager. As for Cassidy, her brunette hair was longer now, with a few grey hair here and there. She stood at 5'8, and she had slight wrinkles on her face as well. But, she was still the beautiful girl Adam fallen in love.Β

Cassidy and Adam now had two kids. Their kids would always have playdates with Guy and Connie's kids. It was like a fever dream for Cassidy, it didn't feel like this whole thing was real because it was all too perfect.

She stood in front of the mirror, curling her hair for the dinner. She wore a nice dress and a jacket to go over it. Her blue eyes trailed over to the door where Adam came inside the bathroom. He wore a collared shirt, something he always wore now.

He smiled at his wife in the mirror, hugging her body and he rests his chin on her shoulder. She had finished curling her hair and was now putting away the curler.Β

"You look beautiful. You always do." Adam muttered, smiling sweetly at her. Cassidy spun around and she wrapped her arms around his neck as they swayed side to side.Β

"You look handsome. You always do." She repeated back to him, pecking his lips as she lets out a Β small giggle. Their moment broke when Cassidy unwrapped her arms around him. "Shall we go Mr Banks?"

Adam smirked at her, nodding his hand and intertwining their fingers. "We shall, Mrs. Banks."

AND NOW, THE couple sat around the table. Some unfortunately could not make it but at least it was better than no one. Fulton had told the group that he bumped into Coach Bombay while he was working, so he invited him to the dinner. Of course, Cassidy was so happy to hear this news but her brother wasn't so he decided not to come.Β

So here she was, standing outside the resturant, on the phone with Charlie while she convinced him to come to the meeting. "Charlie, can't you just forgive Bombay now? It's been years since we last saw him and I think it would be great if we saw him again."

"I already said no Cass. I'm sorry but I just don't want to bother coming. I don't want to see him. He didn't bother trying to see us so why would I see him?" Charlie spoke, his voice slightly raising. Cassidy heard a sigh from him when he heard a call from his kids. "Listen, I got to go all right? Just have fun. I love you inifnity."

"I love you infinity." Cassidy sadly mumbled and Charlie had hung up the phone. She frowned when she shoves her phone in the pocket of her jacket. She opened the door to the resturant, walking inside and everyone's head turned to look at her with hope. It was quickly crushed down when she shook her head with a frown.

Cassidy took her seat beside Adam Banks and he quickly held her hand, rubbing his thumb over her hand in comfort. He knew she was disappointed that Charlie wasn't coming and he was holding a grudge against Bombay. It bothered her for years.

The group was too caught up in their conversations that they didn't notice a familiar man walk inside the resturant. "Anyone know where I can find district 5?"

All their heads turn to look at the voice, smile immediately put on their faces when they saw Gordon Bombay standing in front of them. Cassidy's smile was stretched out more than anyone else's though.Β

"Lester Averman!" Bombay exclaimed as he hugged the comedian. Averman still wore those same glasses that didn't really fit his face shape and he still had that smile on his face.

"Ken Wu!" He exclaimed as he hugged the former figure skater as well. "You got big!"

"You again?" Gordon chuckled when he hugged Fulton.

"Connie!!"Β

"Guy Germaine!"

Once he was finished hugging them, he looked over to Adam and a grin made it's way on his face as he hugged him. "Adam Banks. Cake-eater no more!"

"Coach! How you doing?" Adam asked him.Β

"Good, good." Bombay nodded his head and looked around for a certain brunette girl. His eyes landed on the girl he still considers his daughter and a smile tugged at his lips as he opened his arms wide for her. "Cassidy Conway."

She smiled at her last name, it never failed to make her smile. Cassidy practically jumped into his arms, feeling tears brim her eyes.

"Hiya Coach. It's good to see you." She smiles at him, wiping her tears.

"OKAY CAN WE talk about that time where Cassidy was literally cussing out Gunnar Stahl and then Adam was over at the bench with heart eyes?" Connie mentioned, remembering the memory.

"Okay! No need to bring that up, Con." Adam blushed, shaking his head with a small smile on his face. Cassidy laughed and laid her head on his shoulder.

"You guys have done well for yourselves. You look great!" Bombay smiles, looking at all of them. "Banks! I heard you became a Lawyer?"

"A public defender." He quickly corrected, placing his cup down. "I learned a long time ago to fight for the good guys."

"Averman."

"Yeah?" He questioned.

"What have you been doing?" Bombay asked him.

"Okay. I don't want to brag but I take a limo to work everyday." Averman shrugged his shoulders and Cassidy lets out a chuckle.

"Living large. No big surprise." Then his eyes went over to Cassidy, going down to her ring finger to see a big diamond ring. "Whoa, am I not surprised. Adam Banks married Β Cassidy Conway? Or should I say Cassidy Banks?"

"Well, I did say I would end up marrying the prettiest girl ever, right?" Adam asked them and they all chuckled, nodding their heads.Β

"Yeah, we have two kids. You know, we invited you to our wedding and I wanted you to be the one to walk me down the aisle since my dad couldn't do it himself and you are the closest thing I have to a dad." Cassidy said and everyone went silent.

"Yeah man. You disappeared. No one has heard from you in years." Adam spoke up.

"I move around a lot." Bombay shrugged his shoulders. "My mail gets mixed up."

"In the same pile of your Spirit of the Ducks invitation."

"That's going to be sick!" They all exclaimed with excitment.

"Are you going to speak? Maybe we'll find out what things you have been up to?" Connie asked him, turning her head to face Bombay.

"Yeah I'm not going to that thing." Bombay shook his head and everyone frowned, furrowing their eyebrows at him.

"Why wouldn't you?" Cassidy questioned him.

"I have a lot going on. I'm not going."

"Whoa, you got some things going on? Jeez, look at this guy. What? You coach college hockey now?" Averman asked him but they couldn't tell if he was joking or not. "And you have this bigger head than we first met you?"

"Are you avoiding us on purpose?" Adam questioned him, frowning since he knew how much this meant to Cassidy and she would feel so much more happier if Bombay went to the Gala.

"No!" He was quick to defend.

"Yes you are. I mean our wedding, Cass and Adam's wedding, this gala. I mean, what's it gonna take for you to hang out with us? Another criminal court order? " Connie asked him, a friendly smile on her face.

"Wow. I'm sitting right here."Β

Cassidy had enough and she spoke up, knowing his weak spot. "Don't tell me Charlie was right."

"What?" Bombay's face fell at the mention of his name.

"About you. He didn't come because he said it's not like you've been showing up for us so why should he show up?" Cassidy repeats the word her brother said on call.

"Yeah, you started all of this. You're our coach, don't let us down now." Connie motioned to everyone at the table.

"We were a team, a long time ago. I just think it's time we all just move on." Bombay said and Cassidy shook her head, suddenly standing up from her chair. Her chair made a loud noise and everyone looked over to her.

"Charlie was right." She mumbled, her voice breaking. "I can't believe you."

So, she stormed out while tears fell. She hadn't cried like this since the wedding. Adam sighed, shaking his head at Bombay and stood up to run after his wife.

THE GROUP HAD forgiven Bombau, including Cassidy and now they were talking outside of a ice skating rink. She had her arms crossed and looked over to Bombay, who spoke up. "So, who walked you down the aisle?"

Cassidy chuckled. "No one. I didn't want anyone else to walk me down that aisle except you. Bombay, you're the only person closest to a father to me. To Charlie even. I guess that's why he's been so distant with the topic of you lately."

"I get it. He should be mad at me." Bombay shrugged. There was a moment of silence before he wrapped an arm around Cassidy. "Now, should we go inside and show these kids how Cassidy Banks plays?"

"Of course."

"LISTEN, I ALWAYS say that you guys remind me of a group of kids I used to coach so I decided to bring them here." The group came out in the original Ducks jersey, the bright green one. cassidy was happy to get to wear that jersey once again.

The team began playing a few rounds of hockey with the kids until they took a little break. Cassidy drank out of her waterbottle until Guy and Adam stood by her.Β

"Hey, does Frankenstein still have the moves?" Guy questioned her, shaving ice on her skates. Cassidy stopped drinking her water, placing it on the railing and nodded her head.

"Wanna bet?" She dared him, a smirk on her face.Β

"Ohh, she's challenging us Cake-eater. Your wife is challenging." Guy nudges the blond beside him. Adam shook his head, chuckling.

Cassidy then skates out on the ice, twirling around. Everyone lets out gasps as she figure skates around the rink. Then, Averman had dropped a puck on the ice making her skate around with it. Then, Guy was in her way so she shoved him against the boards.

"Oops! Sorry, Guy." She giggled as she shot the puck in. The kids started cheering for her. Then, when she turned around, Fulton had threw Adam over the boards making her gasp. "Are you trying to kill my husband?"

THE DUCKS WERE finished playing around. Cassidy and Adam walk out of the rink with a huge smile on their faces. She looked up at him, sighing. "What?" Adam questions her.

"I felt like a kid again, messing around in pee-wee's." Cassidy smiled at all the memories she's had with the ducks. Adam wrapped an arm around her.

"You know, I think our favourite pond is still close from here." Adam reminded her.Β

"Race you there!" Cassidy screamed as she ran to their favourite place. Adam took off once she said that and they both ran to the pond. It came into view as Cassidy lets out a laugh, feeling hands wrap themselves around her waist.

She was then tackled down on the snow. Adam hovered above her with a grin, looking down at her. He watched as her laughter died down and she just stares at him.Β

"God, you're still a beauty." Adam mumbled, shaking his head in disbelief.

"And you're still my Adam Banks." Cassidy said back, placing a hand on his cheek. Adam chuckled before leaning in and pressing a kiss on her lips. Cassidy smiles into the kiss as they laid on the snow.Β

It almost felt like they were teenagers again, falling in love all over again.

But Adam Banks and Cassidy knew that they will always fall in love with each other again, whether or not it's the small things. Because no matter what, Adam had her back and Cassidt had his. Together for infinity.
